My best friend is a special ed teacher in Hillsborough County. There is no way her paycheck should reflect her mentally challenged students test scores. Teachers are to teach and nurture education; not develop cram skills just to pass a test. A test does not reflect whether or not a student has actually retained any information, especially if the are mentally handicap. I grew up in special classes, these teachers have it hard enough already - do not make it more difficult. I would love to see a politician try to teach a special ed class for a day!

Florida Senate Bill 6 is a threat and potential end to Florida?s public school systems. I had the privilege to educate students in the inner city of Miami Dade County Public Schools. During my tenure, there were years in which students achieved tremendous gains, as well as years were students did not perform up to my expectations. In inner city schools, there are many factors that negatively impact students? performance and achievement. Inner city schools struggle with the following issues: truancy issues), lack of parental involvement, lack of funding, and lack of understanding the importance of education. Government wants scrutinize and criticize teachers; however we need parents? support. As a parent of a student in the public school system, I believe parents should be held accountable for their children?s education, as well. The next bill proposed should answer this question: How will we hold parents accountable for their education of their children. We must address all issues!!!!!

I am shocked that this Bill is even a consideration. What kind of message are the Senators trying to give our students about higher education? Don't bother?... Where you all be today if not for your teachers? Ladies and gentlemen, please remember that teachers are professionals and should be paid as such!!!!

There is no parent accountability in this bill. All it is is based on test scores. Are teachers supposed to wave magic wands and make everyone geniuses overnight based on one test. No one cares about education and how long or how much or how hard you have worked. It is all a ploy to turn every school into a charter school. If there were 75% of teachers male and this were a male-driven, male dominated profession, where men needed to make a living and provide for their families based on their teachers' salary, they wouldn't be pulling this. But we are mostly women, so they do this to education. It is disrespectful and offensive.

DO NOT PASS THIS BILL. IT IS AN INSULT TO TEACHERS AND SHOWS A COMPLETE LACK OF UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT TEACHING INVOLVES

I believe Florida has the worst educational system in the entire country. First, we're hit with the FCAT, which I must say I kind of a devastation. Now we're being hit with this bill, that will ultimately destroy our children. I am a parent and I work in the education system, who ever wants to pass this bill needs to come work in the inner city schools and see what our teachers are faced with everyday. We have great teachers who try with all of their might to help this children and some how the children still don't get it. It is not the teachers' fault but the parents, students and what goes on at home. You this is what happens when the most high is removed from homes, schools and other public places. I listened to a teacher actually say when taking the MOCK FCAT Test, "It's like I haven't been here all year, like just took all these months off and came back to just test these children". Do you know how awful that sounds? Another teacher says "I worked on the same passage the whole week and I gave them the same passage that Friday and still they get the answers wrong". What are these teachers to do? Now, this bill won't pay these teachers have bust their behinds going to school to better themselves, to make it a pleasure to work with these less than fortunate children, to make it easier for them and this is what it's come to.

If one thinks about it, throughout history it has been the family's responsibility for the physical, emotional, educational and spiritual development of a childs life. Somehow society has shifted the values by which this country was originaly founded on. As a result of this our priorities have changed and our children are suffering for it. So oviously things will not workout the way they are supposed to and the easiest way out is to blame the teachers for it. Our responsibility as teachers is to partner with parents to ensure our students have fair shot at life and become great citizens. I think we must use our tax paying money as an investment to rethink and reactivate the role of the family in our educatinal system.

Everyone should be accountable for the education of our children not just educators.

Parents need to be more accountable as well, and the children have to be taught responsibility. If you notice schools that have magnets or charter do better not only because of the teacher but also because of the parents involvement, making parent more involved will make schools better. Keep this in mind "it takes a village" as Hillary Clinton once said. What this bill says is that it will be all up to the teachers. What counts the most is the children. Punishing teacher and making it harder for them to teach is not the answer, try another approach. Thank you

This bill, if passed, will start a downward slide in education that will be a big mistake. PLEASE support our teachers and SB 6!
