If I was in another country and being tortured , would you help ? Would you see that I was properly treated ? Here I am not in another country being tortured but here in America. I suffer from nerve damage, abused, neglected ,tortured to suffer from chronic pain. You arrest doctors who would help and those who decide to neglect their duties you reward . If not a doctor treat my pain then who ? Who for that fact are you to deny treatment as I am forced to have mandatory health care insurance ? This is a hate crime on many levels , you need to fix it .Jun 15th, 2016Someone from Hartville, OH signed.

I have been taking pain medication for four years. Same dose, same doctor. I have had a FAILED- three level, anterior posterior spinal fusion and have been told that a revision surgery is too risky. My medications for pain (24/7) muscle spasms and peripheral neuropathy., a spinal cord stimulater and lidocaine patches all combined do not give me 100% pain relief but they do make it so I can get through most days. If I were to lose my pain medication I would lose my life. I would not be able to function at all! My care should be between myself and my Doctor. Just like the IRS, the CDC and FDA have over-reached in their attempt to fight this "war on drugs" meanwhile the illegal synthetic drugs will continue to flow across our open borders and drug addicts will continue to get their illegal drugs! And patients who suffer with chronic debilitating pain are being punished by Draconian laws. I do not abuse or misuse my medication. I don't get "high" off of my medication either! I don't understand why patients with chronic pain are being lumped in with street drug abusers. There may be a small percentage of patients who may have an addiction but why are all chronic pain patients being treated as addicts or in some cases like criminals? These new guidelines will perpetuate an increase in the heroin epidemic and also suicides! We all have a tough battle as it is and none of us asked to live like this! As it is we don't know what our futures hold and now to increase our worries over losing our medication? Increased pain will lead to further problems on our bodies, leading to stress, heart problems, mental health, increasing emergency room visits. An all ready heavily burdened emergency system from ambulances to the ER will have more to deal with. Not to mention hospital bed shortages and an increased work load on staff. There has to be improved services to help addiction without hurting those of us that suffer from chronic pain.REPORT COMMENTS

I'm a new patient with UMC-N.O. I am also an elderly woman with a past of drinking and drug use, now sober for over ten years. My sobriety is very important to me, and I won't ..do anything to jeopordize it. I know the pitfalls and possible ramifacations of the use of opiates for chronic pain. So when I explained that I now suffer from chronic hip pain, I was told by my assigned docor due to my past history he would not prescribe any pain meds to me. So I guess the lesson here is to not tell the truth anymore, just blatantly lie about my past. I am a chronic pain sufferer who was humiliated by a doctor for asking for help. I felt as though he thought I was lying about my pain, and the whole rest of the visit treated me like a naughty child, with a smirk on his face. I am now forced to seek pain meds through "other channels" with very little success.REPORT COMMENTS

I have an incurable invisible illness ME there's also a battle for funding if this autoimmune nuerimmune disease. It's not rare millions of children, women,& men live with this disease. A disease with history going back to the 1930's. A major symptom of this disease is pain. Widespread muscle & joint pain, painful neuropathy that often can only be helped with narcotics. ME patients who've been able to get some quality of life are now being cut off medications though the pain hasn't disappeared. I myself am a severe case. Home & bed bound to ill to even bathe myself. It's not right for us & other pain to be criminalized. I often wonder even the pain patients who were used in these statistics that accidentally overdosed. How thoroughly were their medical medical records looked at? How many tried to get their pain manageable but were ignored by Drs & they out of desperation took extra? Doesn't make them addicts it means they were desperate. Millions of people have to live with pain & believe me we would all do anything to have our lives back not need the bit of relief we get from pain medicine. But for the government to try to bunch us in with heroin users & drug seekers is not only unfair it's inhumane. In this country laws won't allow animals to suffer do why is it acceptable for human beings to suffer. Human beings who've tried everything & anything natural over the counter etc before giving in to our pain isn't manageable we need help. If you've never experienced chronic pain you can't imagine what we go through. For the government to tie the hands of Drs who know us & can validate not only our need for pain control is wrong. To teach New Drs to refuse to treat pain is unethical. Let it be a loved one of someone from the DEA or a Dr I can bet these suggested protocols aren't followed. I bet their pain is treated no questions asked. Responsible pain patients have no issue signing contacts, taking drug tests of that's way we must do. It took me a very long time to find a Dr who'd treat my pain. At the age of 34 I suffered a stroke while in the ER because they refused to treat my pain. Just one of many complications that can happen with severe pain ignored. It's unacceptable that we be treated with less compassion then a dog or cat. Shame on the government.REPORT COMMENTS

I have been in "chronic pain" for over 10yrs now. The last two years of my life have been hell. I have been diagnosed with RSD, and the only "medication is Lyrica" is what I was told from my previous dr's nurse. I use Dr. Google, because no one goes over my recent MRI's. I had a hip MRI and was recently told by another, new pain dr. He said I needed surgery, but "your insurance won't cover it" My back is really bad and I was supposed to have surgery last July, in my chart notes. But, I can not see the Neurosurgeon, and no one will give me an answer to why. My new pain dr is not giving me pain meds, but says I need to file for disability because I am in so much pain. HMMM..lets see. I used to be a hard working mom. I had good jobs. I can not work because of the pain, and lack of sleep. This new guideline is beyond me. I have been called a surgery seeker, among various terms. I have been told to walk, and do yoga. Since I have such bad Radiculapthy walking is difficult, with my hip as bad as it is. I have been suicidal because no help for pain. I have been up many nights because of pain. THIS IS INHUMANE PEOPLE!! I have had to see different doctors because I am a drain on their resources, and now I have a blood pressure problem, depression, and god only knows what else from untreated pain. I have gained weight from being so sedentary. I am so withdrawn from my friends and family because I can not do anything. I spent last summer in bed, now again looking at spending days in bed. We have a treatment clinic for Heroin and Oppiate addicts. I fail to see anything about the clinics that are operating. I have thought about lying to be able to go there and get some pain relief, but I am not either of those. I am a chronic pain patient. THERE IS NO HOPE! THERE IS NO HELP, UNLIKE THE ADDICTS WHO GET HELP AND THE STATE, AND FEDERAL GOVERNMENT PAY FOR THEIR RIDES, AND THEIR TREATMENT!!! SO THE BULLCRAP THAT THE GOVERNMENT IS SAYING IS UNTRUE. WHAT BETTER WAY TO HAVE A LEGAL GENOCIDE? THIS IS WHAT IS HAPPENING! THINING THE HERD. WHO IS THE DRAIN ON SOCIETY? THE POOR, DISABLED, AND THE SICK. I NEED TO SHOUT TO THE PEOPLE ABOUT THIS! IT IS GENOCIDE. AM I BEING DRAMATIC YES! I DON'T KNOW IF I CAN CONTINUE BEING IN THE AMOUNT OF PAIN I AM IN. AND MY FELLOW WARRIORS TOO. WHY? WHY IS OUR GOVERNMENT AND DEA AND CDC INVOLVED WITH DOCTOR CARE? I WOULD THINK THE PILL MILLS WERE ILLEGAL, BUT WHAT ABOUT THE KIND, CARING, COMPASSIONATE DOCTOR? AFRAID TO PRESCRIBE A MEDICATION TO HELP THEIR PATIENT? HOW DOES THE DOCTOR FEEL WHEN THAT PATIENT WALKS OUT OF THE DOOR? I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW? PAIN MANAGEMENT IS A JOKE ANYMORE! I AM ANGRY! MY PAIN ISN'T MANAGED. PEOPLE WHO ARE AROUND ME DO NOT BELIEVE MY STORY. THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY I GO TO THE DOCTOR ALMOST EVERY MONTH DUE TO THE SIDE EFFECTS OF MY PAIN. THEY DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY I AM NOT GETTING SURGERY. I AM ALMOST GLAD I DIDN'T HAVE SURGERY BECAUSE WHO KNOWS IF I WOULD GET PAIN MEDICATION. THIS IS SO VERY WRONG..PLEASE LOOKREPORT COMMENTS

Congress is not my doctor. It is not my parent. Why, then, is it trying to tell me and my doctor what medications I can and can't use? If every member of Congress suffered from chronic pain, be it Rheumatoid Arthritis, the results of a horrific car accident, or Cancer, this would not even be an issue. Why, oh why, do they insist on making the many (chronic pain sufferers) pay for the sins of the few (prescription drug abusers)??? It is (or SHOULD BE) my God-given, basic human right to use whatever medication my doctor sees fit to prescribe, without government intervention. Period.REPORT COMMENTS

Only doctors should make medical decisions. Chronic pain patients are thouroughly screened before given meds and placed on contracts to do so. We follow the rules and communicate with our providers. I suffer from RSD/CRPS, a broken ankle, a knee and hip that require surgery. Having RSD/CRPS no surgeon will touch me. RSD/CRPS is a disease that causes PAIN there is nothing more painful the RSD, not even cancer. If pain is not controlled the disease will worsen, and go full body. Why on earth would you take away needed medication from someone that needs it to prevent the illness from getting worse. It would be like taking insulin from someone with diabetes, due to the risk the medication 'could' cause a coma? Your guild lines are not right, you are NOT doctors, you did not go to medical school. YOU WILL CAUSE HARM and make me and other like me worse by your action. my medication has been cut, my RSD has now spread up my leg and moving into my arm. Today I was told that I would have to reduce my pain meds to 1/4 what it used to be. I worked with a sympathetic neurologist/neurosurgeon for several years, to finally realize after trying everything she could come up with including botox shots, that only opioids would help. At that point I was given several options; a morphine drip into my spine (no way), fentanyl patches, or oxycodone. Well, in my ignorance, I chose fentanyl patches. They were terribly inconsistent (I was constantly going through withdrawal and then a patch would help and I could move again) at helping with my all over constant pain. (I have many health problems that most other doctors insulted me about and sent me packing) I went through months of withdrawal from the fentanyl to go to oxycontins. They worked and still work for me. I have taken the prescribed amount now for close to 15 years. No wonder at this time, so many states are allowing euthanasia clinics to open. This is a planned event, people. There's no way out but the end.REPORT COMMENTS
