You can't jeopardize the health and well being of a whole segment of the population to try and save a few. Instead of tying the doctors' hands, why not fund rehab for those who have an issue? Go after the "pill mills" but not after all doctors who are trying to abide by their hypocratic oath. The number of suicides will comtinue to rise and the number of heroin deaths will rise as people will have no choice but to try and find alternative ways to alleviate their pain. It is unfortunate, and scary, that street drugs will be easier to obtain than prescription medication. Is that what the CDC wants in fheir hands? Prohibition didn't work with alcohol and it not going to work here.Jun 19th, 2016Someone from Brooklyn, NY signed.

These guidelines are killing people and their blood is on the hands of the CDC and every person who is allowing this injustice to occur. Just because we are in pain does not mean we are not people, we should still have the inalienable right of life, liberty, and the persist of happienessREPORT COMMENTS

It seems like the FDAs warnings about NSAIDS, Naproxin, and epidurals are being purposefully ignored. Because that's what the CDC wants us to do??? It seems like a much more dangerous option than carefully monitored opioids.REPORT COMMENTS

The problem of the CDC's guidelines on prescribing pain medications boils down for me into the fact that over the last couple years I never heard anything about any new guidelines regarding pain medication and the CDC. I have reached out to news channels, newspapers, lawyers (class action lawsuits), Senators, the Department of Veterans' Affairs (I am a disabled USMC Vet), President Obama, Viceland TV channel, Dr. Phil, Gloria Steinman, Hillary Clinton and anyone else I can think of with no results. No one will talk about this. I have 3 herniated discs in my low back and I am now on no pain medication. I also have a headache which I believe is from the pain radiating from my low back into my neck and head. The headache is now in it's 9th month. The headache is everyday, day after day, week after week and month after month. I have been to the ER on several occasions but they are unable to help me. In the beginning when they started reducing my morphine, all I was told was that "they have done new studies....." it always starts out the same way but the studies are different. And any issues I had were ALL do the the pain medication and I had to come off of it. I am so disgusted with the VA at this point after they put many lies in my record to make it appear that I am abusing the pain medication I was getting. Then the drug screens I had were not coming up with what it should. When my most recent UA came back negative for morphine (I was off morphine for 3 weeks) I was told by my doctor that since the morphine I was on was extended release it should be in my system for 3 weeks. It only stays in the system for 3 to 5 days. Today doctors will lie and say anything to get chronic pain patients off pain meds. Now they are relying on a drug contract I signed back in 2003 and are holding that against me. I have been sent to different doctors, different departments, many different things are being suggested that could help but when I ask for further information, it never comes or I can't afford it. I am being passed around, pushed off onto different doctors, I have been given different answers. I am all the time being told by the doctor I am talking to "that is not my job." I have been given many different pills (just not pain relief) to make me go away. I have been jumping through hoops at the VA . I finally went to a doctor outside the VA and, sad to say, same result. I even tried Dr on Demand and that doctor told me in about 8 minutes that I had to get of the pain medication. Now I am on my own. I am back to living on mass quantities of regular aspirin and caffiene pills to get through each day. Which is where I was back in 2003 when I was taken off aspirin because of bleeding ulcers. At that time I was told to never take aspirin again because of the bleeding ulcers. Now I am told it is okay but be careful. WHAT??? I am also experiencing very high blood pressure (over the past year or so) since I was taken down to a low doREPORT COMMENTS

Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Difficult to have these when you are in chronic pain without adequate pain relief. It seems like a prison which limits your ability to function as a citizen, a person, a lover, a parent, a friend. Please hear this!REPORT COMMENTS

People who aren't in pain don't take pain meds....addicts do. Alcoholism starts with the first drink yet Congress isn't trying to ban alcohol. Anyone predisposed to addiction will become addicted to whatever it is that feeds their high (alcohol, narcotics, food, sex, love, gambling, etc.). It disgusts me that people who aren't in Healthcare and who have no idea about pain can try to take away narcotics. Most of these people who have overdosed on heroin as well as those addicted (those who take it to get high) aren't/weren't taking as prescribed. If they knew anything about narcotics, there's something called dependence. The person has taken them for a while and their body goes through withdrawals if they don't have the med. But they DO NOT get the euphoria an addiction does because they truly have pain. These legislators need to be educated on pain and pain management.REPORT COMMENTS

Who is anybody to judge anybody. If pain meds are needed give them to the suffering. Be happy your life is not spent in agony and pain. When this happens to a senator or governors family member they will see how it feels.REPORT COMMENTS

I think it is unconstitutional for Doctors to just label their patients Drug addicts. The DEA and our government are to blame. This is no longer a country of freedom . Why should any person with chronic pain however their age be denied their pain medicine, or it be given in the strength they need to live normal lives. Let Doctors treat their patients and get the government out of it.REPORT COMMENTS

This is having a devastating effect on my family. It is unfair to punish people with chronic pain for the choices that other people make. Most people who deal with chronic pain can not live a good quality of life without those meds. There has got to be a better way to differentiate between the two.REPORT COMMENTS

I have Chronic Kidney Disease. I had to stop my anti-inflammatories as they were damaging my kidneys. Does that make me a drug addict? This is all getting out of control. I am forced to go to a pain management Doctor every 30 days. All he has done is reduce my pain meds and try to force me into agreeing to spinal injections. Every time I leave there I am so upset. I feel bullied. These guidelines need some humanity factored into them.REPORT COMMENTS

What the government, the CDC, DEA, and others have done to people that are dealing with pain is PURE EVIL. Just PURE EVIL and INHUMANE. It is no wonder our country, rather the ones running it are hated so bad and being hated more day by day. Dont know how they could even live with there selves knowing of all the suffering and death they have caused and are causing. This spoke to me as I am one of the statistics resulting from the war on drugs. After a serious accident in which I almost died I became dependant on opiates and after being cut off suddenly by my surgeon went into serious withdrawals. Due to lack of education I thought it would kill me. I began doctor shopping, buying opiates online, etc. had I been treated as a patient and not a customer by my doctor I could have tapered down. Instead I became even more addicted and was eventually jailed for possession even tho I had a valid prescription. Yea they can do that just to see if it sticks and if you are stupid enough and poor enough to buckle under the prosecutors bullying. I was. I was told that a valid prescription meant nothing because I had my pills in a Tylenol bottle instead of the prescribed bottle and bullied into signing for probation. This was a lie I found out later. Due to Galveston county's strict zero tolerance policy on drug offenders I was sent to prison for my first violation of not reporting. I did 2 years for a crime I was innocent of. Oh, the mistakes I made. I've since learned to control my opiate use but I am reluctant to undergo the surgery needed secondary to spinal cord injuries because I don't trust the healthcare or legal system now. All from lack of education on pain management. SMHREPORT COMMENTS

I am dealing with chronic pain do to oral cancer and a 12 hour surgery that caused severe nerve damage in my mouth. I needed to take my meds to do daily functions like eating, speaking (I am a teacher.) I have been cut off of my medication by my doctor because she says the DEA is threatening her because of me. A local pharmacy caused me problems. I have a speech impediment and I overheard pharmacist say in front of a store of people (if he thinks he is going to come in here slurring his works and get his dope here he has another thing coming.) I spoke up and said excuse me but I am an oral cancer patient who has had a lot of my mouth cut out. I thought I deserved an apology but instead they threw me out and turned me into the DEA as a suspected abuser. Now my doctor has dropped me and i am now forced to live my life pain now. It follows me around now like a bad credit report. I cannot get any help from any doctor now. I am afraid to even let my name be seen on this petition because it may make things worse.REPORT COMMENTS

With a very heavy heart I write this letter. You see, a poster of this petition, that commented on here quite often nearly took their life yesterday. A LEGITIMATE chronic intractable pain sufferer, DENIED LIFESAVING PAIN MEDICATION, went without medical care for over a year as NOONE WOULD TREAT THE PAIN., all the while severe debilitating pain ripping thruout the body. UNMANAGED SEVERELY DEBILITATING PAIN ATTACKING THE BODY NOT JUST PHYSICALLY, BUT MENTALLY AND EMOTIONALLY AS WELL!! Because of THE VERY CORRUPT OBAMA ADMINISTRATION AND THE DEA, CDC AND THE FDA, I ALMOST LOST A VERY DEAR FRIEND DUE TO UNTREATED CHRONIC INTRACTABLE PAIN AND THE FAILURE OF OUR GOVERNMENT TO PROTECT ITS CITIZENS FROM HARM. YOU ALL FAILED THIS PERSON, LIKE THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS MORE THAT ARE TURNING TO SUICIDE. It's quite clear who the TERRORISTS ARE IN THIS COUNTRY, NOT ONLY IS ISIS A THREAT, BUT OUR VERY OWN GOVERNMENT IS ATTACKING AMERICAN CITIZENS, TAKING LIFESAVING PAIN MEDS FROM THE CHRONICALLY ILL, FORCING US TO ENDURE THE TORTURE UNDERMEDICATED CHRONIC PAIN CAUSES ON OUR BODIES, PHYSICALLY, MENTALLY AND EMOTIONALLY. THE TRUTH WILL PREVAIL! YOU ALL ARE GOING TO HELL!REPORT COMMENTS
