I am a chronic pain patient and have been for 12yrs. I understand there are "pill fishers" out there and they should be dealt with, but treating me like a bad person and labeling me will not help the problem!!

I have chronical, around the clock pain since surgery for my cancer that gets much worse after eating or drinking beverage. I'm afraid to ask my doctor for pain medicine, for fear he'll quit treating me and doctors taking new patients with medicare insurance are hard to find these days. I shouldnt' have to suffer, but I do.

It's about time. It is obscene that those licensed to practice medicine are restricted by idiots. Don't even get me started on the mistreatment of chronic pain sufferers such as myself. Please sign and post

I go to doctors to get help in dealing with severe chronic pain that will never go away. I had a 2 level fusion done 3 1/2 years ago; it failed and I suffer with pain every day. I have severe fibromyalgia (yes this is a real condition and is a horrible to live with). And to make things worse, two disks are bulging in my neck as well. Top off with sleep apnea and that's my life. I don't see how any person except trained medical professionals can come close to finding ways to help me live a life in pain that is tolerable. The DEA needs to let doctors do their jobs and not label us as drug users. I would gladly stop every pill for life without pain in my entire body. And weather changes make it worse. (My primary doctor says I probably have rheumatoid arthritis but the blood work results aren't exactly what the textbooks say it needs to be so I'm diagnosed or treating it.) People suffering with long term chronic pain are not addicts. Causes vary as well as treatments. What works for one person may not work for another. When did the government decided they would make things more difficult for my doctors? They are already dealing with insurance companies. None of us asked to be in this position but we're in it and don't need more stress in getting our meds and treatment as needed. I wish you could feel what I do for two weeks; your prospective would change quickly.

I suffer from migraines and use to get shots for them. One doctor told me I could come in and say hibut he was not going to do anything. I was furious finally my doctors found a medication that works. I was in so much pain If I wanted street drugs they would not be hard to get. I think some doctors are ego driven. I also get the dea has standards they follow that is out of the doctors hands its a damned if you do damned if you don't situation.

If pain is measured (per patients response) as a vital sign, the same as heart rate, blood pressure, blood sugar, respiration rate, etc....then why would it not be treated like other VS's that are not correct or WNL? Does NOT make sense. Not all people who use or need narcotics are abusers. It is time for the governement to step back some and allow the physician and patient to assess and develop treatment plans that work. I recently was discriminated against in trying to obtain medical care. I was told I would have to wait 5 months or longer if I wanted to utilize narcotics for pain, but if I was willing to not have narcotics I could be seen in 2months. This was by an intake person. NOt a physician. This is discrimination at it's finest and I find it appalling. Back off government.

I have been a chronic pain patient of MULTIPLE pain conditions since 2000 and this has been going on with dea and doctors for that long if not longer! Before pain medications my 4 children had a mom who barely could get out of bed, now they have a mom who is a mom because my pain medications help me! Too many people committing suicide because of pain, leaving family and friends behind that don't understand WHY, this has to STOP! Help pain patients get their medications they need.

I have chronic pelvic pain, and without pain medication, I would be unable to function. Please consider those of us who rely on these medications just to survive. Thank you.

I am a nurse. I haven't been able to work for 10 years now because Dr. DEA will not address my chronic pain issues. I would agree I would be a drug abuser if I actually loved getting high off the meds. However, my brain does recognized that I am truly in pain and I use the meds for what they are intended...PAIN! I hope you never have the pain like so many of us do, but if you do, I truly hope you receive the same lack of treatment and compassion so many of us must endure on a daily basis! When did the DEA decided they know what I need more than my doctor does? Sounds like DEA is practicing medicine without a license!

Doctors need to also start learning to look beyond the standard issues and looking at more obscure issues. I am a classic example, and finally found a doctor that understands my issue and can treat it, thereby getting me off the meds! Do these people think we want to be taking pain meds, etc?????? I think NOT!!

I can't write everything I'm going through bc there is too much & I'm in too much pain. I'm tired of crying in pain, always saying I can't do something & needing help. Being treated horribly, like a low life who wants drugs, yet all I want to is to not be in pain and have some quality of life!

I was hurt at work seriously when I was 27 and over time my back has degenerated and there is nothing more that can be done and have exhausted all surgical routes in order to get back to work. Now, I have arachnoditis and it's painful but I have a special needs child who needs me. So I need my pain treated so I can function and I'm not seeking a way to get high or numb my emotions. This can happen to anyone and if it happened to you, you would want your pain managed too.

I have chronic back pain. I am a nurse and injured my back taking care of my patient. Now I am treated as a drug seeker and definitely do not receive the empathy and concern that I gave my patients.
