Not being able to take anti-inflammatory medications is NOT a sign of addiction!! I have to take close care when taking any anti-inflammatories due to stomach issue that are inflamed when taking these medications. I believe it is a travesty to teach med student how NOT to treat patients with chronic pain who have little choices in how to effectively treat the daily pain they suffer with! SHAME ON THESE EDUCATORS, SHAME ON LAW ENFORCEMENT FOR TREATING THESE DOCTORS AS GLORIFIED DRUG DEALERS AND SHAME ON AN ADMINISTRATION (INCLUDING CONGRESS) THAT WOULD ALLOW SUCH THINGS TO HAPPEN!! Do NOT give us no options for treatment, please be compassionate to those of us who have few options as it is! Suicide is NOT a treatment for chronic pain and it sure should not be an accepted treatment for chronic pain, one provided without issue. So you would rather people kill themselves than receive the care they need...that is truly sad!!! I could continue but...are you even listening, I have my doubts.Sep 12th, 2013Someone from Clayton, NC writes:
i have suffered from chronic pain for 5 years. i dealed with it for 3 of the years because i have no medical ins. the past two years i have been treated with norco 10 and delata 4 mg and now my doctor will no longer treat me. she said i need to go to a pain clinic. i checked into it and i would have to pay 250.00 every month just to be seen. i just can not affored the things they will want me to do phyisical theropy, steroid injections in my spine which i have had that done once and it cost in the thousands and only made it worse. I feel so sorry for all of us who truely need pain meds.REPORT COMMENTS

NOT EVERYONE WHO NEEDS PAIN MEDS ARE DRUG SEEKERS or ABUSE IT!! I understand not wanting them to end up in the wrong hands, but Do Not take it out on those who truly have pain!!REPORT COMMENTS

I did not ask to be in 2 car accidents. I didn't ask to be rear ended. I didn't ask to be left for dead. I didn't ask for herniated discs throughout my spine. I didn't ask for numerous other painful conditions, such as fibromyalgia. There is NO reason that my children should have to suffer because two other people CHOSE to not obey traffic laws and cause the car accidents I was in. I should NOT have to suffer. I am an adult that does not share, sell, or do anything else illegal with the very LITTLE pain medicine I am prescribed. My primary care physician won't even prescribe pain medicine because of the FEAR instilled in her by the DEA. There are legitimately diagnosed chronic pain sufferers out there that NEED pain meds to attempt to regain some form of normalcy of a life. When I brought in records to my new primary on what conditions I have been diagnosed with, the first thing she said to me was that, "I do not prescribe pain medication" although I did NOT ask for any. I am chronic, debilitating, and OVERWHELMING pain every single day of my life and have been for almost 10 years. I am NOT a drug seeker and I do NOT look to get high. I look to reduce my pain to MANAGEABLE levels to take care of my children, husband, and home. I can?t even sit, stand, walk for more than 5 minutes at a time, let alone pick up my 30 pound son! I can?t even finish college to become a social worker because of the extreme amount of pain I am in. It is SHAMEFUL that legitimate pain sufferers have to deal with the stigma that comes with being prescribed pain medication(those that even are LUCKY to even get any)! Yes, there are drug seekers out there that are looking to get high; however, I , along with many other people, are not one of them and should NOT have to suffer because of someone else?s behavior. This behavior needs to stop. Now. YOU, the DEA, are responsible for suicides. I may even be one of them as I get older and by body deteriorates even more than it has already. If and when that times comes, in my letters to my children, husband, and the rest of my family, I WILL let them know WHY and WHO to blame for it. Maybe you?ll learn when lawyers start knocking down your doors.REPORT COMMENTS

With multiple chronic pain conditions that are already so stigmatized, it is already hard enough to get treatment as it is. The majority of us already seek out alternative and complimentary treatment to go with traditional medical care and do not feel it is right to have the government meddle in our fundamental right to quality medical care. This must end and end it NOW!REPORT COMMENTS

Right now my wife is laying in bed, in un-imaginable pain all because all the local pharmacies are out of her prescriptions because the DEA felt it was right to limit the amount each store could buy... and who knows when they will have anything stock! Being diagnosed 7 years ago with RSD/CRPS, a disease that is the highest ranked condition on the McGill Pain Scale (much higher than even child birth!), she is now being kept from the one thing that would allow her even a semblance of a normal life. You are just hurting people who actually follow the rules and need these medications to survive... yes survive! Your organs begin to shut down when your body is in such a constant state of severe pain, you lose cognitive function.... the list goes on! Stop hurting those who really need help!REPORT COMMENTS

This is ridiculous. Most of us just need to be functional to keep working and forcing us to spend more money and sit in more and more doctors offices is extremely stressful. Obviously it would be better if we all just died and that may be next if you don't allow people to treat their chronic pain. Please change this policy.REPORT COMMENTS

My wife has a chronic pain syndrome. We have been seeing multiple doctors in the last three years and it seems that every doctor thinks that all the pain would be manageable if she just stops taking narcotics. I'm not an idiot but maybe the doctors are. If someone has debilitating pain doctors should prescribe whatever works. The problem with our healthcare industry is that doctors are too scared of treating pain based on local state and also federal governments getting involved with their quack ideas on how to treat people medically. Please, I would give my left arm if any politician would be so humble to admit that they know nothing about how to resolve this issue that affects so many people. I would also ask that he or she would ask my opinion on how to setup a better treatment plan for those that actually need it. What can I say, I don't have very much faith in our governments or doctors at this time.REPORT COMMENTS

It isn't just elderly chronic pain patients who deal with this. AGE should NOT matter. War on opiates?! This is a losing battle for patients such as myself who have children to take care of. College graduated WITH HONORS while dealing with three boys who need constant attention. What are you doing to the next generation by allowing young mothers to not be active with their children? The next generation is hearing whispers at the pharmacy about their mothers/fathers/grandparents. It is NOT ok for doctors to not treat patients. It's dangerous... Suicidal due to pain?! OHHHH YEAH. For sure. Who wants to live like this? Not me. But I am doing my best. Doctors need to treat their patients accordingly without worrying about suspension or dismissal.REPORT COMMENTS

As a 10 year migraine patient, I've NEVER had decent meds for my pain. I also have a lower back injury and displaced hips...and would gladly take that pain over the migraines any day. What would be even better would be to find a dr willing to help me find some comfort and relief. I've lost my freedom to drive because my concentration and vision are so bad now. I can't work, yet am not even on disability. I can't spend decent time with my kids for all the time I spend in bed. I have no social life. I've lost the intimacy I should have with my husband, and bless him for being there for me! Why do we live this way?! Why must we be ignored for our pain? We're not addicts, we're patients! We're wanting what YOU all take for granted. I want days where I can get out of bed and KNOW I'll be able to get to dr appointments for my kids and I, get showered and my hair washed, get some kind of cleaning done, AND spend time with my kids, all without having to pick and choose which of those I want to accomplish! Why? Because right now I do that, because I have no decent pain meds to regulate my pain and allow me to be HUMAN. I'm in therapy to help deal with the depression I suffer because of my pain, to help me ensure I'll actually keep fighting and stick around, instead of taking my own life and ending the pain I deal with every damn day of my life. I've KNOWN people who ended their lives because they couldn't handle the pain, and that scares me to death! To know someone else, who was in my situation and felt the same pain I feel, couldn't go on and chose death instead. How do YOU feel about that? How would you feel if it was your sister, mother, brother, CHILD?? Would you be so hot to take this away from us then? GIVE US OUR LIVES BACK! We deserve to live the full, normal, functioning lives you have! We need to be listened to, not labeled and made to feel like criminals, or to look like criminals and know we can't fight back because simply asking 'Why' is enough to get us booted out of someone's office. I want my life back. I want someone to HEAR me when I say I'm in pain. I want what's fair...the life I was promised when I came into this world. I want it for me, for my daughter who's in the same situation, and for every other person out there with the same issue. We have PAIN, not ADDICTION. Start listening, start paying attention, and start seeing each individual patient as a human being, not a statistic or seeker. And try putting yourself in our shoes. Would you like to have unending pain, the knowledge that when you wake EVERY DAY, it'll be there...and KNOW no one will help you because drs and the government care more about money?? Think about it.REPORT COMMENTS
