I have permanent co-occuring conditions of nerve and back pain from shingles outbreaks as well as L5 - S1 sciatica nerve pain and am on a low dose of opiate pain medication and a responsible user and NOT an abuser of my medication. Stop insinuating that all prescription users are drug abusers, because it's just another lie. Dave -

I am 72 my wife is 73. My wife has breast cancer and severe back pain, I have esophageal cancer and am doing OK. I take no medication but practice holistic medication which seems to work for me. My wife needs pain medication but is treated like a drug addict and criminal when she sees a new doctor that her oncologist sends her to. She comes home furious at the way she is treated. No one should have to endure these indignations. We only have medicare so many doctors don't want to treat us anyway. I personally do not plan to go to doctors anymore and will just accept death when it comes. I hate what our medical treatment has evolved into. It certainly is not helping the poor and elderly. I had to stop working and quit College, because my pain wasn't taken seriously. The ER doctor who labeled me a "Drug Seeker" even though I didn't want drug I wanted an X-ray and was denied treatment. He was caught with a hooker and Cocaine! I had a ruptured disc, with nerve damage that progressed, I nearly lostthe ability to walk, all because the Doctors refused to diagnose or treat my pain! So Now I am on SS and other social programs. Thanks to incompetence and corruption I will never work again! It should be a crime to not treat pain, and allow someone's life to be destroyed because of it! we have no rights under the ADA or any other Organization. It is perfectly fine for Health Care workers to verbally abuse us and ignore us.REPORT COMMENTS

I am a doctor and will vouch for all of this. The DEA scrutinizes doctors as if we are all drug distributors -- we are all considered guilty by the DEA and we must be prepared to prove we are NOT.REPORT COMMENTS

My chronic pain started due to an abdominal surgery that went bad. I spent 5 years going to the pain clinic, having treatments, injections in my abdomen and spine, surgical implants and other surgeries. Only to be told there was nothing that could be done. I now have RA on top of the nerve damage pain, as well as other medical issues, and my entire body hurts so bad every second of every day. My doctor does the "Legal Testing" required for patients who are prescribed medication for pain, and not once have my levels been too high or too low. I am NOT a junkie, and chronic pain sufferers do NOT get dopey, high or any of the other things people get from these medicines, after surgery, or who are getting the medicine to sell and get high off of! We should NOT be forced to suffer more than we already do! It's inhumane treatment!!! There are laws preventing inhumane treatment of animals...why do human beings who suffer so badly, not deserve the same laws? My life was ruined at a fairly young age. My pain controls every part of my life. I feel like I just exist...so, I can completely understand someone who can't get medication...for any type of relief from their pain, committing suicide. This is absurd that the DEA is wanting to make us live in even more pain than we already do. If they spent one day in any of our shoes...then they would understand!REPORT COMMENTS

I have suffered severe pain and migraines for many years in addition to osteoarthritis in all joints, spinal stenosis, degerative disk disease, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, just to mention a few diagnoses. I have had spinal surgery, physical therapy, psychological therapy, massage therapy, accupuncture, chriopractic care, supplements, nutrition for YEARS before finally giving in and take pain medication. I am drug dependent, take exactly as prescribed, do not sell or share my medication. I am a responsible adult that CANNOT TAKE THE PAIN and should not have to. I only wish the same effort was put towards the millions of drug dealers people using crack and other illegal drugs. I am taking LEGAL drugs and you want to stop it? Makes no sense and it is not fair to people like me who suffer.REPORT COMMENTS

As a victim of chronic pain and unable to take most if not all over the counter pain meds I need to be able to access prescription pain meds such as Vicodin, etc. Because of the new crackdowns on pain meds, people that truly have a need for them are being made to suffer unbearable pain. This is not right. I do realize that some people do become addicted but that is because they use the pain meds for the feeling of euphoria they get. I get no joy in taking pain meds. I take them to get relief from pain and that is all. This last week I was awake for several days due to the pain that I could not abate. Please listen to us that have permanent life long chronic pain and stop punishing us due to the actions of a few. Thank you.REPORT COMMENTS

Is this torture & discrimination of chronic pain patients the beginning of getting rid of the "undesirables" under obamacare? So far its working on both the young & old that can no longer take the daily beating of throbbing pain 24/7 with no relief. What has happened to America?REPORT COMMENTS

The pain management clinics now have the monopoly, pharmacies like Walgreens are investigating our doctors and telling them what to prescribe, questioning their treatments, and asking many personal and private questions in turn probing into our patient records without permission. I do not believe that pharmacies have the right to police my treatments or my families. Fact is, back in the 80's there was an epidemic of drug abusers out there. Nowadays it's easier to get your prescriptions illegally than it is legally the right way. Facts show that the amount of people actually abusing the drugs is down to very low levels and the levels of chronic pain patients being able to get the help they need is on the rise. I have spoken to many chronic pain patients who feel the only choice to relieve their suffering is either suicide or medical marijuana which is also illegal. Keeping up the abuse of chronic pain patients rights to fair and relieving treatment is a violation of descrimination. 9 times out of 10 when I speak to a person that has now had chronic pain, they tell me how they used to think people were weak until it happened to them. Now they understand people are not faking. You can't always see that a person is in pain and feels like dying inside because of it. If something doesn't change then people are going to start committing suicide more or be thrown in jail for seeking relieve elsewhere. Something has to give, it's not right and it is torture to keep people in chronic pain this way!REPORT COMMENTS

Please help us chronic pain sufferers live again without stigma and intense scrutiny. I did not choose to have RA... Why should I be punished for it? Why should my 3 &5 yr olds be stripped of a mother because physicians are made out to be drug dealers and pushers. STOP the suicides!!!! People need REAL HELP... Yet we condemn them for seeking the appropriate help and cut them off at every pass in seeking help. It's so wrong! It's just as wrong as the government killing those innocent people in Syria! Our government us forcing SUICIDE on chronic pain patients as the only choice now... They have no where else to turn... Not even to a physician anymore. It's sad ... And a form of LEGALIZED TORTURE!!! Cruel and unusual punishment!!!!REPORT COMMENTS
