The war on drugs has failed and they have now switched gears to waging war on patients and care givers. Purge the sick, make them more poor and try to make people view the sick as criminals. Well I view the DEA as thugs and they should be ashamed of themselves. I am sick, but I am strong and I'm not going to keep quiet. -

I'm in severe pain, my neck is crooked in my words that's what my exrays showed, I didn't even know that this was what was going on, my doctor prescribed hydrocodone the lowest dose, I have severe headaches due to this and get migraines also, I had this for more than 7 years, that's when my doctor first gave me the medicine, it helps but doesn't take all the pain away, but I can manage better with 2 a day, I also had major hemorrhoid surgery in 2010, so I cannot take any over the counter medications it causes me to bleed, and the hydrocodone is the only meds I can take, I can not understand how the dea or whoever making these decisions make me and the people doing what they are suppose to do and taking their medicine like they are suppose to, just take it away from us like this and with no care as to what we are going to do, we can't all afford to go to "pain management" and still might not get help because they think me and the people that really need this are abusing our meds? Not true if that was the case we would not be able to function at all and now we really won't be able to function now, because the pain is so severe, what are we the good people suppose to do?REPORT COMMENTS

Until you have lived with chronic, debilitating pain, you will never understand. You will never understand the frustration and humiliation of being treated like a drug seeker and a criminal when you are just trying to get help so you can live a normal life. I have tried every non-narcotic pain killer and they either give me horrible side effects or the do not help me at all. I take 8 ibuprofen at a time and it doesn't even touch my pain. Screw my liver. I take tramadol. It doesn't relieve my pain and it leaves me with dry mouth and a head ache. Lyrica - it makes me stupid. I can't concentrate or do my job. Oh, and it doesn't help the pain. Amitriptyline? Already on it. SSRIs? Yep, that too. I can go on, but there is no point. No one really cares if we suffer. God forbid we get addicted to being pain free.REPORT COMMENTS

Ask your Doctor if they would allow their loved ones to suffer as we do. I have never asked a government official to "protect me from myself". We are supposed to be free. Pain relief is cheap and available as is compassion and integrity.REPORT COMMENTS

I'm writing you regarding the recent rescheduling of hydrocodone as a class II controlled substance. I believe my rights, my dignity, and my pocketbook are being unfairly infringed upon. Although the DEA and FDA regulations and controls for schedule II drugs look reasonable in print the practical implementation of them by health practitioners has created a serious problem for people like myself that have legitimate needs for these medications. I'd like to tell you a little about my own battle with pain. I have been using prescription pain medication for about 5 years. I have wide spread degeneration thorough my spine and suffer from chronic sciatica in my right leg as well as chronic muscle spasm and pain on right side of my back. The degenerative conditions have been verified by numerous MRIs. In the beginning my Dr. and I tried every non narcotic option available; over 50 sessions of PT with 5 different therapists, multiple epidural steroid injections, chiropractic and osteopathic manipulations, braces, belts, acupuncture, massage, ice-n-heat therapy, TENS, ultrasonic massage treatment, traction, yoga, tai chi, inversion, you name it I probably tried it. I was told that I was not a good candidate for surgical procedures because the degeneration was to generalized and my symptoms to varied, making it difficult to isolate any specific disk locations. They cannot fuse large areas of the spine. Surgery could only be considered as a last resort because the risk of failure was higher than the possibility of success. I put off the option of narcotic medications and endured the nagging pain for nearly 9 months. I did not want to become dependent on medication!!!I was still functioning but it was difficult and it was apparent this situation was not going away. I was tired and had thrown in the towel. So back to see my doctor again, this time I was open to try anything. He prescribed me narcotic pain medication. The treatment made my life worth living again. I still had some pain and I had to limit my activities to some degree but I was again living a pretty normal life. My doctor and I discussed the possible side effects and the probability that I would become dependent on the medication. He said as long as I was using it as prescribed he was confident that I could withdraw successfully if by some miracle they discovered a way to cure my spine in the future. I had a terrific relationship with my Dr and all was well. And then it happened, my doctor offered and accepted a job in another state. Oh no! Now what! Once my Dr. was gone my only option to receive pain medication was to be referred to a pain management clinic. Family practitioners had become nervous about treating patients that needed pain management for chronic conditions. There had already been some high profile cases inditing doctors for improperly prescribing pain medications and most doctors in my area weren't willing to accept new patients and the risks associated with prescriREPORT COMMENTS

My husband and I left our DR.s office on Tuesday in a haze of disbelief. We could not believe what we were being told by our DR.( of 22 yrs ) We were told that he could not prescribe pain medication anyone. That the D.E.A. has finally won their fight to stop pain meds to patients unless you are a Cancer patient or near death. My husband is 67 and I am 61. I can guarantee without going so far into it that we both suffer fron documented pain and believe me none of the illnesses or diagnosis are going away. What are we going to do. We are very stressed over this information. It begins on October 1 2014. SCARY STUFFREPORT COMMENTS

Out Congress can't manage to fix the countries infrastructure, leave social issues to the people, fix immigration, yet the DEA can tell me and my doctor that we have to now jump through more hoops to deal with 80 pills a year I require. I am so disgusted with the lack of real progress on substantive issues, and the petty nonsense that they are up to. Was this really necessary. They really want the people to hate them. I'm 60 years old and I only take them for extreme nausea with migraines due to infection. I've never taken them before I got into my late 50 and I am trying hard to be reasonable. But the DEA has overstepped their authority which now interferes with the doctor patient relationship, our constitutional freedoms and what is ostensibly a democracy. Why does it feel like a dictatorship. Furious.REPORT COMMENTS

In light of recent escapades of the DEA in Texas my Pain Management has been reduced from enough to get through the day without being off my feet most of the time back to spending more time laying down or sitting and being much less productive than I could be. I have cancer, Hep-C, moderate to severe spinal stenosis, herniated disks on top of good old fashioned arthritis. We all know Arthur. I've had too numerous surgeries not to need help controlling the painful side effects of those conditions and the surgeries. And I might need more. Look, I am all for the DEA going after script doctors and people who have illigitimate and undocumented pain. They need to go after the pharmacies that work hand in hand with those doctors also. They need to leave us, the legitimate sufferers ALONE. And let our doctors treat our pain while managing it at the same time. That's why I see my doctor every month. The visit does not cost hundreds of dollars like the script doctors. The pharmacy does not charge me so much I need to take out a second mortgage on my house. Everything is out in the open, transparent and accounted for. So why are you...DEA...interferring with treatments you really do not know anything about. Or do you? I wonder how many DEA agents or law enforcement officials anywhere need treatment because of something that happened in the line of duty. Are you telling us that because we have not been shot or injured in some other way...in the line of some other duty that we have less of a right to have releif? You...DEA...really need to rethink and focus your efforts on the ones who are doing wrong and leave us alone. Period!REPORT COMMENTS

Pain is real. It is debilitating, frustrating and severley depressing. When you have a family to take care of you need to be able to get out of bed & function properly, that is where a treatment plan & open conversations about what is working/dosage and being honest & forthcoming with your dr is important. I DO feel, however, should a dr prescribe any pain medications, they have every right to require a pain contract. No one truly understands pain until they are living with it themselves. It absolutely restricts your life & takes away activities you once loved & even with medication, it's still there with breakthrough pain, just a little easier to manage.REPORT COMMENTS
