I'm 63-years old. I'm in constant pain from spinal cord damage, bone spurs and a failed ankle surgery. I've been a patient at Clinica Sierra Vista & have been taking Acetaminophen/Codeine since 2008. I've always taken my medication as directed. It takes the edge off my pain and allows me to function. I'm confined to a wheelchair, and am home bound. I must use a medical transportation service to get to and from my doctor visits ($30 round trip). I wait between 2 to 4 hours to see a doctor and get my prescription. I frequently get sick from something I caught in the over crowed waiting room. Sometimes I can't get an appointment every 30 days. I recently went 15-days without medication because the earliest appointment I could get was 45 days later. I spent those 15-days in bed, unable to care for myself. I fully understand why so many seniors are committing suicide. Chronic pain destroys ones quality of life. This requirement has overwhelmed our health care system, and increased the cost of care for all. I'm begging Congress to delete this requirement from the Affordable Care Act.

When I took my partner with Sickle Cell to the ER at 2am with a pain crisis they would say the protocal is to give Tylenol and wait four hours.

Please listen. I am 27 and I suffer so much with pain that I contemplate suicide. I don't want to hurt the people I love so I have been able to stop myself. I have panic attacks before going to doctors now; I never know if I will receive some help I need or if I will be treated like scum. One time I got my hopes up when a doctor suggested something stronger, but then later learned he didn't actually write it in his report to my doctor. What the hell help is that? Every time I seek help, I am literally negotiating for my life.

Please let what physicians are suppose to do. Once we have some national spokesman for chronic pain things will begin to change.

You are aware that you live in authoritarian regime don't you? If not you are fooling yourself, sadly. Fill out these petitions and send them in and if you don't see change then will you realize you are wrongly governed and vote these incumbent usurpers.

Addicts will ALWAYS find a way to go after the satisfaction their addictive propensities. This is genetic for most and is a horrible problem for the sufferers. But, making it harder for someone like myself, who runs his own business, to get relief from the pain he will always have in his life is ABSURD! I am a family human being who is trying to have a life with my family, run my business, and do it with as little debilitating pain as possible. Stay out of my life! I only have one and I would like to enjoy it. Why haven't you banned beer from the supermarkets because there is alcoholics? I want to move out of this moronic country I was born in!

These are very true statements and not exaggerated by any measure and this accurate perception has degraded medicine, the doctor patient relationship, healthcare in general; and the voters and citizens (both doctor and patient) have lost respect for the government and our system of justice and the DEA as a whole.

I was told by My Primary Dr who handles my pain management just yesterday that starting in October I will have to go by the office every month to get a prescirption. I live in a rural area and travel an hour into the metropolitan area for appointments. Not being able to have refills between my 5 month check ups is going to cost me more in gas, more in time off work to try and get by there during business hours, more inconvenience every single month now all because of a few who abuse. Legitiment pain management patients such as myself do not deserve the DEA getting between our doctors and us as patients. We do not abuse our dosage and we do not seek other doctors out to try and abuse the system. We act responsibly with our conditions and we respect the rules so why should all of who are responsible and maintain one doctor that handles out pain management prescriptions. It is impossible to find a doctor closer to me to take on my pain management because they are afraid to take on any patients who require pain medicine to deal with our conditions and they do not want to risk being targeted by the DEA for handling new patients. I've been with my primary doctor for almost decade now myself and the one argument I thought of when I heard this news was the same one that was used by the Gun rights advocacy. Why are the responsible legitiment patients and doctors being punished for the bad behavior of a few and addicts who abusing the same medicine we need so badly to function on a daily basis. Surely the DEA can set thier sights on dealing with the abusers another way and surely they should be focussing more on things like meth addicts instead of doing more harm to those of us who act responsibly with our medication. I am truly worried all this extra travel and arranging time away from my business will affect our household budget and cost my family some unneeded hardship as well as hardship at my work for being a problem in needing to take time every month to spend extra time off going to obtain my prescription instead of being allowed to have my normal 5 months of refills. My pharmicists cannot refill my prescription early if I ever abused my dosage so the laws are in place already to prevent us from abusing that dosage or using our prescriptions to act outside the law. I stand with those who wish to tell the DEA that they are over reaching and meddling in the business between my Doctor and myself.

Imagine the worst pain you have ever felt. Now imagine it continuing without end, day after day for the rest of your life. That is what it is like to live with the pain of Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy. Opiates are not a cure, but they provide a degree of relief. To not prescribe them is to sentence the patient to a life of unspeakable suffering. The only alternative for some may be suicide. Imagine this patient is your spouse or your child. What would you do?

It is becoming harder and harder to be a chronic pain patient. I have been disabled (SSDI) and in pain management for well over a decade now. The federal government agreed that I was disabled and yet this very same government is making it harder to find treatment . They group us with the "horrible scurge" of addicts and abusers and come down on the doctors that actually want to try to help us. Yes, addiction is a problem, but there MUST be a middle ground. Do not keep adding to this fear and make people in legitimate and often unrelenting pain to suffer more and lose one of the few options we have to treat this pain by causing doctors (and even you, the government) treat us like junkies, or have others fear for their practices when they do agree to help!

I have chronic pain and have never been addicted to pain medication but I do take it as prescribed. It does not totally alleviate my pain but it makes it bearable most of the time. I do also take antk-inflammatory meds.I am not always able to go to the doctor every month physically or financially. This new law will be very difficult for older disabled people to deal with. Pain is very depressing

Living with a chronic fatal disease is bad enough, but when it becomes a job to find a doctor who isn't afraid of the dea and is willing to treat pain thatis beyond their charted levels then somethingis very wrong with the way we're approaching medicine as wel as drug interdiction. Doesn't the dea have anything better to do??
