People who get older that don't have back pain ,elbow knee,ect.ect. That great but for the ones that do then they should get help even if it means you have to take pain pills. Yes , it's obviously a problem in this country with so many people taking pain pills but don't believe everyone abuses them because they take them. It's getting so bad that even the ones who have to take something for thier pin that they are being lumped in with the ones who abuses and sell then and it makes me mad for anyone to put me in the category of the abuser erstwhile and I've told my doctor that. I shouldn't have to feel like I'm doing something bad when I tell my doctor the dose I'very been taking for five years isn't working anymore. I've never been the one to live a healthy life which is my fault but at 50 years old I'm already having problems with my back ,knees ,elbows and wrist. Why even make the pain pills if everyone is going to be looked upon by others as being a junkie for having to take them?REPORT COMMENTS

Mercy Hospital has purchased systematically EVERY healthcare option from hospitals and doctors in a 150 radius! I have been diagnosed with lupus, kidney failure, fibromyalgia, peripheral neuroapathy,and stage 3 cancer. I find the intrusion into medical practice criminal. This has become a tool for wealthy republican doctors to sabotage "Obama Care" by using this law to neglect patients as well as make huge amounts of money promoting ineffective drugs pushed harder by pharmaceutical companies than corner drug dealers -which are simply useless for genuine pain. These new "depression" medications are responsible for more severe violent acts and mental illness than any opiate. I have severe spinal pain due to demeylanation and multiple neuropathies. My doctors tell me they simply don't prescribe any more because of the federal government with no regard to the well being of patients. If you are confident this is the way to go then sign a document stating you will be liable for the patient's well being ! I am currently seeking a new doctor as I have been out of effective medications over two months because of this law. This is outrageous !REPORT COMMENTS

I am 32 and have lived in horrible pain for years. I have three children to care for and my Dr has seen me for years. He knows my case and so far has treated me well. However if I have severe pain that decides not to respond to the few medications I try at home first I was forced to go to the ER. I picked up all their tricks like adding Benadryl and such and try everything possible before going. I hate hospitals and always have. Now I hate them more because after years of having amazing success with a shot of Dilauded and Zofran and going home to sleep it all off and waking up feeling better now I get treated like I am the biggest piece of******scum ever. I had a miscarriage and was refused medication. I have been degraded and belittled to the point of leaving the ER feeling suicidal. Unless I happen to luck out and get the one DR who has been at my hospital and has treated me since this ordeal began at 16 and who knows I don't even react like most people(I get no "high" from pain pills. To me I just get relief from debilitating pain and I get a chance to feel like a normal 32 year old and be the Mom I want to be playing with my family instead of laying down the second my husband is home) I leave in pain and misery and pointless debt. Enough is enough! Yes there are people who abuse drugs and there always will be. There are also people who suffer daily for years who just want a chance to live a life free or at least in tolerable pain. At what point do we let the ones who are hell bent on abusing and destroying their own lives just live with their own consequences and stop punishing those who just want relief and normality????? Stop telling Drs how to do their job and making them hurt their patients!REPORT COMMENTS

I believe that we are in the new Prohibition. It is okay to use marijuana, okay to be gender transient and okay to be illegal but not okay to demand quality of life after a life of hard work. I am broken in many places and refused medication until military retirement and always looked to the day that I no longer had to suck it up. I believed I would be in a situation in which it was okay to be medicated but the rules have arbitrarily changed and the sled dogs are no longer due their meal. I have never been high in opioids and would never want that feeling but I do seek the few hours a day that I am in the therapeutic range of uptake. It is a roller coaster and I white knuckle the majority of the day. But for this governmental intervention in my personal liberty, I would have a chance at continued productivity. Instead, I am inching closer to ending my life because I cannot bear it many more days. It is sad that I would end my life rather than use illegal substances or travel for marijuana. I am on of the people that have pulled the cart 40 years and now I am cast off because nobody will risk their license for me. I risked my life for each of them.REPORT COMMENTS

The DEA are not medical professionals. They have no right to decide or intimidate Dr's in there decision making with regards to pain management. Yeah there are a scant number who abuse their positions. I have been a rn for over 20 years and will no longer participate in the denial and failure to treat legitimate pain.obesity is usa number one priority and cause of death. Rather Emotional or Physically I've suffered from pain since age 3. I seemed to have handled everything in my way. I agree totally with the story that was told a little earlier. I'm stuck in my room unable to enjoy everything in life I did before. The last to hit me is Lumbar Disease which causes my legs to not walk or being able to sit due to the screaming pain it causes. Depression and Anger devastates me to hating the fact I keep breathing. My Dr was sending me to try a shot at anesthesia and asc but they phoned telling me no shot until I pay 130.00 from something they did in 07. I have Medicare but no money or anyone to even borrow it from. So my life will end of 130.00 No pain medicine either 4 ibuprofen 4x a day til I run out of them.REPORT COMMENTS

My sister, who is labelled as "disabled" by our Federal government was just told by her doctor that he will not write her scripts anymore because he "will mot risk his license." What kind of country do we live in when they approve & recognize pain patients as disabled & then refuse their medication so they cannot even function? Again, something MUST BE DONE ABOUT THIS...AND SOON!!! My sister is facing detoxing at home, without medical supervision, and it has the famy in a true and very real panic...STOP THE GOVERNMENT FROM PRACTICING MEDICINE & GIVE IT BACK TO THE DOCTORS WHO WENT TO SCHOOL FOR 10+ YEARS TO QUALIFY TO DO SO!!! Along with many, many others, I too, am a long time chronic intractable pain patient due to a severe auto accident in which I was hit by a drunk driver at hi speed. To sum up my history, after running the gammit of conservative, holistic & interventional therapies without relief & being strongly advised against surgery, my options had run out and my quality of life had diminished greatly. I was then also fighting depression since so many things I once loved were no longer an option or party of my life. However, once I was placed on the right opioid medications, for the 1st time in YEARS, my life was NOT centered around my pain!! I was actually able to start doing things again. I was ecstatic being able to regain certain aspects of my life back, I was no longer depressed because I was mostly confined to my bedroom... My life once again had quality!! What's been going on with the newer laws ESPECIALLY WITH THE DEA, I feel, IS A TRUE VIOLATION of OUR MOST BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS!! IT IS OUR BODIES, IT IS OUR PAIN & IT IS OUR LIVES...WE, AS THE PATIENTS & OUR DOCTORS SHOULD BE THE ONLY ONES DETERMINING WHAT TREATMENTS AND MEDICATIONS ARE OF VALUE TO US. FOR THE LIFE OF ME, I CANNOT UNDERSTAND THE EFFICACY BEHIND THESE NEW LAWS? AND MOST OF ALL, WHY THE D.E.A. IS NOW WHO DICTATES, NOT ONLY MY HEALTHCARE DECISIONS, BUT MY MEDICATIONS & THEREFORE MY QUALITY OF LIFE....OR, LACK THERE OF!! UNFORTUNATELY, THE ONLY THING THE D.E.A. (& NEW GOVERNMENT LAWS) HAVE SUCCEEDED IN, IS GREATLY WORSENING THE VERY "SO CALLED" DRUG EPIDEMIC THEY SAY THEY'RE TRYING TO STOP. AND WORSE OF ALL, TAKING AWAY THE OPIOID MEDICATIONS FROM THE LEGITIMATE CHRONIC PAIN PATIENTS WHO TRULY NEED THEM - CONGRATULATIONS!! Meanwhile, you have now RESTRICTED the Doctors, the laws and virtually taken away the rights of the legitimate, chronic pain patients to SUCH A DEGREE, many patients have now been cut off of their medications, drastically cut back or discharged when they are clearly still in need of treatment, making it "another Doctors problem to deal with." THIS HORRIBLE CYCLE IS FORCING THE MOST NEEDY OF PATIENTS INTO A LIFE OF CONTINUOUS PAIN WHICH HAS NO QUALITY WHATSOEVER! This WILL lead to one of two outcomes in many cases. Patients WILL BECOME DESPERATE FOR PAIN RELIEF! And, they will either turn to the "black market" and start obtaining street drugs for pain relief creating a ENTIRE NEW GENERATION OF ADDICTS AND DRUG ABUSE, OR, THEY WILL EVENTUALLY LOSE THEIR DESIRE TO LIVE A LIFE OF CONSTANT, DEBILITATING PAIN WHICH THEY HAVE NOW BEEN FORCED TO DO! So frustrating, ive had extreme chronic back pain for 9 yrs now, and now i cant get in to see a Dr to refer me to the local pain clinic within a reasonable amount of time, (2-3 mos)so my only alternative is to go to the ER, i will say at first they helped a little,but only being allowed or only giving me 10-20 pills is keeping me going back every week, well after 6 weeks they shelled up and prescribe me meds i already know dont help, so im in a catch 22 in this broken down system. While pill sellers get their meds regularly,we who really need them most are stuck in pain, suicide is not an option for i have no other family to raise my 15yr old son. Help me someone,no decent American citizen should be subjected to these inhumane treatments, my ancestors were here 150yrs before this land was America, that said, my country is failing me after paying taxes for 25yrs im now looked on as a criminal of sorts by these Drs who think they are God. What would they do if their son, daughter, spouse, mom or dad were feeling this treachery each day and night , they wouldnt make them feel like a criminal and send them home in pain, yea i may not be perfect but i have not broken any laws, the actions of drs and DEA are pushing me closer to looking at other options. WELL THE PAIN MANAGEMENT DOC STILL REFUSES TO CHANGE ME TO SOMETHING STRONGER THAN NORCO 5's one twice a day...and I have been on 10/325'S one four times a day as needed and he dropped me cold Turkey off them first time I had to see him. And finally two months later gave me the 5's. I have high blood pressure dealing with all this PAIN now and down to just two fives a day...YOU DEA..CDC..OBAMA..AND ALL OTHERS INVOLVED WITH THE DECISION TO MAKE LEGIT PAIN SUFFERERS...SUFFER EVEN MORE...I PRAY FOR YOU ALL...YOU WILL REAP WHAT YOU HAVE SOWED ON SO MANY INNOCENT PEOPLE WHO ARE SUFFERING IN PAIN LIKE WE HAVE TO BECAUSE IF YER CARELESS..HEARTLESS..SELFLESS...ACTS AND DECISIONS...SO I ASK IF YOU PLEASE...GIVE OUR MEDICINES BACK AND SAVE PAIN MANAGEMENT FOR ACUTE PAIN PATIENTS TO TRY...AND STOP FORCING US CHRONIC PAIN SUFFERERS TO ENDURE MORE PAIN THAN WERE ALREADY IN!REPORT COMMENTS

I have been on Twitter. Not one politician will respond . If the cdc will not treat chronic pain as the disease it is then there should be no cdc. You treat all diseases that is your job do it or disband. If we have the atf there is no need for the dea. This is my pain my health not the governments. Can't believe this..... Just got a bill from the lab that performs the urinalysis every time I go to see my pain doctor. More than likely I received it by accident, seeing this is the first time I've ever seen one. The total was $ 3,555.28. This is totally absurd and a misuse of insurance (Medicare) dollars. As a chronic pain patient of four years myself, I too deal with doctors who only want to handle me with kid gloves. It's based mostly on the region in which I live... Large amounts of prescription drug abuse and illegal drugs. I'm tired of not being believed when I describe my pain, because I'm not rolling on the floor and crying... I'm tired of the condescending looks from the receptionists every month I have to go pick up my prescription... The looks from the pharmacy... I am a chronic pain patient and I have been abandoned by all my medical team and I have a clean record! I have never done anything wrong! the place I was going for nine years just up and closed their doors and left us to find new long-term pain doctors but because of the ongoing epidemic that other people are causing it is affecting us chronic pain patients severely and leaving us to suffer on a daily basis! whatever happened to first do no harm? My primary care provider is an M.D. and she is denying me any help because she is biased against this medication for every patient! I was told by a doctor in the hospital to find a new primary care provider because she should not be doing this to me!
