I am 44 years old machinist by trade. Loved my job. Can't draw social security disability because the administrative judge, dragged out my case till my time of being "insured" ran out by 2 months. So even though I was found to be disabled. I am unable to draw any benefits, medicare, medicaid, or any financial help. I live with chronic pain due to herniated disc in neck and back, also degenerative disease, rhumatiod artheratis, fibromalgia, have had 2 failed surgeries on my right shoulder, rotator cuff, and removal of part of my clavical bone. Afraid If I allow the doctors to operate on me again then I may loose total use of my right arm all together. I have been in pain managment for many years now, as these surgeries are so risky, and my OBAMACARE deductible is so outrageous that I couldn't afford to do it anyway. NOW, my doctor tells me that the Federal Government won't allow him to treat my pain management in the way that we have before. I only take 3 oxycodone pills per day, the doctor has reduced these and cut out my breakthrough pain medication all together. The quality of my everyday life has gone to nothing. I suffer, and being a man, I don't complain alot, but I do however come across very irritable and not very pleasant to be around, to my wife and family. I don't go anywhere. My knees hurt, so its a chore for me to get around anyway. Now with my medication being taken away, I can't do anything but lay around on the couch and upset my wife and family. I can't come to grips with the fact that the disabled people who really do need and take their medications as prescribed are compiled in with a group of a few people who abuse the medication, causing us good people to suffer. Why is the government hurting the good people of this great state who have paid into social security all their lives and now when disabled, can't draw any money due to the attorney and administrative law judge's arrangement, to top it all off NOW I can't even get my pain medication to have a normal life with minimal pain. I SUFFER EXTREMELY, CAN'T WORK, NOW I CAN'T EVEN GET OFF THE COUCH. MY WEIGHT HAS INCREASED SO MUCH THAT MY CLOTHES DON'T EVEN FIT ANYMORE. I see my doctor every month, he tests my pee and blood to insure that his patients are taking medication as prescribed. My doctor has random calls during the month to bring you in to count the pills in your bottle to make sure that you are taking them as prescribed. EVEN WITH ALL THESE REGULATIONS, THAT I DO PASS THE TESTS EACH TIME, WHY AM I BEING PUNISHED BY THE GOVERNMENT BY TAKING AWAY MY QUALITY OF A NORMAL LIFE. My pain medication does not totally eliminiate my pain, but it does at least make it bearable. Well, at least it did before the government decided they knew what was better for me better than my doctor. PLEASE LET THE DOCTORS DO THEIR JOBS. THERE ARE REALLY GOOD DOCTORS OUT THERE WHO ARE HELPING PEOPLE IN NEED, THAT DON'T ABUSE THE SYSTEM. Seems doctors are being treated tREPORT COMMENTS

I never took anything stronger than a Tylenol or iprophen in my life, then unfortunately i had a mesh inplant to hold my bladder, was supposed to be a 3 week recovery, that was 5 years ago. Two of the years i was bed bound, 5 removal surgeries later has left me in severe, never ending pain, so 4 years now going to a.pain clinic, 4 -10mg oxycodone per day and morphine at night. And valium to stop the bladder spasms. Never a bad pee test, never off on my counts and they treat me like i am a street user. Now they say i can no longer take valium (which is only thing that stops the spasms ) and just stopped the morphine, no weaning.off. but i don't think i will have withdrawal because i am not an addict, i am a chronic pain sufferer, of course the oxy only works 4 hours and i cannot sleep at all, so i am in pain every day. THIS HAS TAKEN MY LIFE, I JUST HAVEN'T DIED YET. I was doing fair with the meds that they r now apparently afraid to order for me. Best i can figure our government does not trust our physicians. So they started these pain clinics. What a horrible joke, its a cattle call really, the nurse who writes the rx knows nothing abt me, i've only seen a doctor twice in 4 years. Now they want me to come in every month instead of every other (more money for them ) more hardship on me. Basically i can never leave my home area because i have to fill my script at the same pharmacy (y is that???, they have a database to track every med filled and written ), all i want to do is visit my sister, but can't she lives out of state. WHAT IS WRONG WITH OUR GOVERNMENT???? Gosh i hate to say this out loud, but it seems that if they kill off us baby boomers then less pay out to ss and more pocket money for them. I have a good doctor, let him do his job and get me out of this place where they give drugs to street addicts.. This makes me more than sad, it is actually killing me. PLEASE LET ME LIVE IN PEACE, PAIN FREE.REPORT COMMENTS

In 2011 I had an aortic dissection that required emergency open heart surgery. There was no time to get to a proper facility for the procedure so it was performed at a small community hospital. The surgeon brought in did perform a miracle given what he had to work with but, could only do the best he could. Afterward, much of the pain in area of the incision went away but I continued to have nerve pain in my upper left back. I was also found to have a chronic aortic dissection and a large aneurysm and that required a lateral thorocotomy (you get opened up like a can of biscuits) and have had chronic nerve pain in various locations where I was cut open. Especially where my left rib-cage was cut to gain access to the aorta. We have tried several medications but Hydrocodone (Norco) is the only medication that really gives me relief. Coupled with arthritic knees and newly discovered scoliosis, I am in perpetual pain. I am getting really tired of being forced to prove that I am really in pain before they will continue to dispense the medication. I has become increasingly difficult to obtain the medication. Every week some new DEA regulation or protocol gets introduced to further impede my ability to obtain the medication. The efforts I have to go through subject me to the obvious judgement of pharmacy techs, the new pseudo-doctors (nurse practitioners), and staff at the doctors office I have to go through every month to get refills. I am sick of being treated like a criminal by people who don't have any idea of what it is like to have to work a full time job in a professional environment while in chronic pain. Someone neeeds to show some responsibility to the taxpayers that the DEA and other REGULATORY bodies do not. I have yet to see any study that shows whether these brutal measures, allegedly put in place to protect me, do anything at all? Are the having the desired effect of street crime? Are they reducing unnecessary dependence? Or, are they just some regulation cooked up by some rouge agency for which there is no standard of measurement. What is the test to determine the effectiveness of these ridiculous and overbearing regulations? Is there one? Are there any results? Is it doing anything (other than causing needless and debilitating pain for people like myself who need this medication to continue to function)? SOMEONE HEEEEEEELLLLPPPP!!!!!!! The measures you have put in place to control prescription narcotics abuse are, themselves ABUSIVE to persons who need this medication. Is ANYONE listening?REPORT COMMENTS

Almost 25,000 letters and it hasn't changed anything, gotten anyone's attention. We can't change the public's opinion much less the government employees that made the new laws that will cause untold pain and suffering. The new laws aren't going to stop OD's or make anyone safe. No one with the power to do anything cares about the facts. This is the new world we live in. A sad day when doctors forget the oath they took. Perhaps the creed should be reworded to include "I will treat each patient according to government rules and regulations, regardless of harm it may cause the patient"REPORT COMMENTS

There's a very old adage advising people to not throw out the baby with the bathwater. Demonizing the medicines that so many desperately need in order to stop a smaller number from abusing those medicines is not the right way to approach these issues. Demonizing and inhibiting doctors who demonstrate no abuse of their privileges as efforts are made to stop misuse of those same privileges by others is not how to treat these issues. The main thought that comes into my mind with these efforts is the Hippocratic Oath... "Do no harm." The scope of the government's efforts to help addicts *must* focus narrowly on helping the addicts and not hurting others for whom these medicines are intended to help and who are not abusing the medicines. Please seriously rethink the methods for policing doctors who need options for people with real pain, short-term or long-term. There really *are* ways to figure out which doctors are abusing privileges without putting unnecessary pressure on the good doctors who do their due diligence and don't harm their patients through their efforts to help people with such a debilitating problem as extreme pain. We only create *more* problems when draconian measures are used to treat problems and those measures limit way more than what needs to be limited.REPORT COMMENTS

The only drug that works to help me get out of bed in the morning and stand. I go to bed without pain and wake up in pain from degenerative disk disease. I suffer from sleep deprivation because of the pain waking me up every 2 to 4 hours. I also have fibromyalgia. After 6 years they are taking me off the drug leaving me with nothing. I am a recovering alcoholic and do not want to have to go back to drinking to handle my pain. Why would they make me live in pain when there is a drug that helps me! There is a lot more to write but sitting is another position that hurts and I cannot take a oxycodone to help me sit here to even fill out this form. In other words I have to tip toe around my back pain instead of being able to do the the drug and actually make it better by using the drug back and bend etc. What you are doing is wrong. You are targeting the wrong people! Re do your survey and find out the ones dying are the ones that are drinking on it crushing it and don`t even have pain!!!!!!REPORT COMMENTS

I don't feel the DEA has the right 2 regulate chronic pain medication for those who truly need it. I was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease all through my spine along with bulging disc and pinched sciatica this is a very painful disease and I don't know what I would do without the medication and I take it properly. True it is the Junkies that has made it hard 4 people that truly need it and yes when you going to a pharmacy they look at you as if you are a junkie or beneath them. I'm just as intelligent as most of the pharmacist and I also don't think that these Pharmacy have the right 2 pick and choose who they want to fill for. The DEA needs to continue to work on the borders and regulate the cocaine and heroin that comes in this country and not regulate pain medications for those who need it and most of us may need it for the rest of their lives. I have seen people with surgeries that come out worse before they had the surgery. I refuse to get surgery. I have one last comment the DEA came into my doctor's office and went through all the records and did not find one infraction and wrote a letter stating that all Pharmacy will and must feel prescriptions for this doctor but again the pharmacy's feel like they have the privilege to deny anybody they want to.REPORT COMMENTS

Once again we are trying to figure out why we and our doctors are being attacked by the DEA, CDC and FDA. Once again we have tens of thousands of pain patients telling their stories and expressing their concerns about the possibility of loosing life saving medications. Yes I said life saving medications. Being affiliated with almost all dozen groups advocating for chronic pain rights, I have seen articles or posts on social media telling stories about chronic pain sufferers who have committed suicide due to being denied medications. I have also seen articles about heroin addicts overdosing, being treated and overdosing a month later. We, the chronic pain community see that those who are addicted to opiates have more rights and government funding then we have. We also see the negative propaganda spewed by government agencies to further sway public opinion to believe that anyone who takes opiates is well on their way to becoming addicts. The fact is that all this rhetoric has effected the treatment of chronic pain sufferers, both medically and psychologically. The fact is that very few people who are medically treated with prescription opiates become addicted. Also, this whole campaign initiated by the DEA is nothing more than a smoke screen to cover up the fact that the DEA has failed miserably at stopping illegal drugs. The heroin, Fentanyl and counterfeit opiates being sold on the streets are the real epidemic but the DEA hasn't been able to stop or even slow the smugglers and Cartels so they decided to loop legally prescribed medications into the mix. Well even the DEA can find these opiates, hell all they have to do is look at the yellow pages for pain management doctors and Pharmacy's. Not much investigating there right? So now a huge number of REGISTERED VOTERS are needlessly suffering even more because a useless government agency decided that it's alright to hurt a group of people simply to justify their existence.
