Very well said!! I also agree that it shouldn't be based on breed. I have a neighbor with 2 mastiffs that run the fence whenever there is anyone in my back yard, human or animal!!

Dobermans have served us loyally. I have been owned by three and all of them have been gentle faithful and intelligent companions. My first dobergirl guarded and guided me through a disabling spinal nerve condition.Belka lived to 14 and died four years ago November from Lymphoma. To her dying breath, she was my loving companion. Duke, my redman, also a rescue guided my husband throught the aftermath of 9-11. We lost him last week to CHF at the age of 15+. He was a gentle giant and we miss him terribly. The remaining girl, Shadow is beauty and brains...I wish more people had the personality, tenacity, patience and intelligence of these supposedly "vicious" dogs. US Army, get with the times. These dogs can be trained to do anytning but on their own, they are affectionate foodies who are happy to be petted, played with and to sleep on their masters bed...They are absolutely not bloodthirsty killers...

This is a shame! Dobermans are a loving and loyal family pet. this should be a case by case basis and not single out particular breeds. What about "Always Faithful", the beautiful war dog memorial, featuring a DOBERMAN???? Doesn't make sense to me. Please reconsider this rule. Thank You!

Being the spouse of a retired military member and the mother of a son who is in Afghanistan at this time, I have seen first hand how much members sacrifice. I am currently an owner of a doberman, and in the past owned rottweilers They are two of the finest animals a family can have. How dare a law be made against dobermans and other "agressive" breeds from living in base housing. Allowing dobermans on base is the least thing the Dept. of the Army can do for its members. Apparently the people making this policy have never had the opportunity to own one of these fine creatures...how pitiful!

Ignorance breeds contempt! This ban must have started with a conversation between two ignorant people, probably high up in the ranks, who had never experienced the love and loyalty of a Doberman. Or had a bad experience with one because of an ignorant owner. How sad. How thoroughly and utterly unfair! Shame on them!

How can the Army ban Dobermans? Have they forgotten Guam? What happened to "Always Faithful"? Oh yeah, it seems only the dogs are the loyal ones. This ban needs to be rescinded.

All dogs should only be judged on their temperment and the owners ability to control them.

I to own a dobie and she was lucky enough to be grandfathered in on post she is 5 years old and the best dog ever she is very loyal and loving and I would never give her up. I agree with the chihuahua thing I was bit twice by them and my dobie has been bit by once. they should go by the dog not the breed.

Dobies are very sweet and loyal dogs that should be well socialized and will give 100% loyalty. I am on my third girl. I thought about trying another breed and just could not imagine not having a dobie in the house.

The stigma about Dobermans is ridiculous. All dogs, big or small, need training & to know who's boss. Dobermans are smart & willing trainers. As with all breeds it's the owner that's at fault. Don't punish the breed. Put the blame where it belongs.

As a US Army Veteran, I am appalled that the same breed that served loyally with our Services are now being banned. I have owned Dobermans for the last 32 years and have never had a problem with any of them. They have served and protected us, now they need our protection!

My Doberman is 3 years old--is a Certified Therapy dog and spends one afternoon a week at a senior home in Lynn MA; she starts Hospice Training next week at the VNA in LYnn, MA. She is a great and compassionate visitor for folks in Nursing homes and especially enjoys children in hospitals. She is 3 years old and is known by most folks in Nordstroms, Macys, Home Depot, Staples, CVS among others where we shop as they welcome her as an ambassador for their store to their clients. Her name is Kassidy--she is my second Doberman--my first, Sara lived for 18 years and had the same reputation in San Francisco. Currently, I live north of Boston and welcome calls or emails to further this discussion. To deny Doberman Pinschers is ludicrous! MY dog goes to Harvard Caine Cognition Lab and just received her Junior year certificate--they want her back for more research next year--her 'senior' year and anticipate she will be used for 'grad school wok'!

I am a proud doberman owner and have been around dobermans all my life. My children were raised around dobermans, they are protective, but not aggresive. the public has very wrong perception about dobermans, and I feel Hollywood has something to do with that as dobies seem to be the "favorite vicious guard dog" portroyed in movies/tv. Also, in the 1970's many people used them to guard their property and left them alone. Today breeders have become more responsible and you don't see dobermans being left along in junk yards anymore to guard the property.

I am 65 and have had three dobermans over the years, We lost our last girl a few weeks ago and will be looking for a new doby puppy soon. They are the gentlest sweetest natured dog you can imagine when they are well-bred, trained, and cared for. Many years ago they were the breed of choice for young men in the inner cities, much as pit bulls are today, and there were many badly bred and cruelly raised dobermans with the resulting problem behavior you would expect. I suspect pit bulls are suffering from the same misinformation, but am not familiar with that breed, so can not say. One thing I don't know anything about is: would they have proper room to run in military housing? They really do require a fenced in yard for exercise.

Dobermans are no more aggressive than the owners who train them. In our family we have two dobies and a number of friends with small children who visit frequently. Our friends enjoy knowing how safe their children are with our dobies.
