For father's who do want to do the right thing & provide for their children; yet, when some have no job & limited resources, the suspension of their license inhibits their opportunity to get hired, go to job interviews, go to school diligently and even see their kids on their own time. The license suspension keeps fathers from being productive, this needs to be rectified & thus removed immediately if the children are the priority. Courts set the amount to be paid so high it makes it difficult for the noncustodial parent to live. When you don't meet that mark monetarily, they garnish your wages up to 50 percent, even though you pay every month as much as possible, and you still have to live on next to nothing. I am forced to live on 800 a month. I don't make that much, and I'm a disabled combat veteran. They don't care. After a while of not being able to pay a very high amount, they take your license. You can't work anywhere without a license. In effect, you'll get stopped by the police eventually on a routine traffic stop, then they take your drivers license due to the license being suspended lose your job, because you can't get to work, but the child support keeps adding up. Money that your not even earning, keeps piling up and then you owe thousands upon thousands, and the county will do nothing to help you. In my county (imperial) good luck finding a job with the unemployment rate at 29 percent. I don't qualify for any aid because I have always worked. The only way to get your license back is to pay thousands of dollars that you will never be able to pay. A man is forced to drive on a suspended license in order to do the right thing. Support his kids. Unfair law, emotionally and mentally, and financially taxing. What is our congress going to do about this?? Please, act nowREPORT COMMENTS

It makes absolutely NO sense to take away my husbands license because we have fallen on major financial hardships and he cannot pay. How the hell is he supposed to get to work if he can't drive. Not to mention every one requires a drivers license these days to get a job. Please stop this nonsense!!!! He can't even get a license in another state because of this. We are trying to make a life and this is GREATLY Impacting our ability to do so. He is involved in his sons life and never had a custody arrangement. California decided they wanted their money back because the mother used the assistance. Why can't both parties pay. Just doesn't make sense at all. Please find it in your hearts to change this!!!!REPORT COMMENTS

This law is absolutely unfair by all means I am and have been separated from my son's mother for years but was only told that I will not be able drive legally due to past due child support. Which I wasn't informed was in effect until after I was already $10k in rears, although I was in touch with my case worker and she blatantly said that I could not start payments until the case was valid with the state. This is unreasonable because my driver's license is what provides a future for myself as well as my son. Please up lift this law to help those of us single parents who are doing the best we can to provide for our children!!!!REPORT COMMENTS

I'm a truck driver by trade, it's hard enough trying to get a job, then you hold my license, I get so many trucking offers, you want me to work fine, want to pay my support, no problem... Don't suspend my license and take my living away from me, my daughter is 19, all mine are arrears, take away my passport like I'm gonna run away from my own country because you money hungry bullies want to feed of my already decomposed carcass, your trying to squeeze water from a brick. Child support services are paid thugs are getting away with extortion. I had my child rights taken away and cannot see my child. yet I am ordered to pay for the child, under threat of jail and loss of money and property. I pay $400 dollars a month and they collect only my last payments and add that to my child support payments. basically $100 is being counted. I have lost my license and the commerce child support office refuses to talk to me or settle my complaint. they refused all my complaints. and even the state complaint is handled by commerce dept. this is unconstitutional forceing me to pay without accurate accounting and no response to the office the court refuses to let me speak to a judge. and the state refuses to let me SUE for abuse of powers...REPORT COMMENTS

The father will never be able to land a decent job to make payments without a valid license and will incur so much debt that will ruin his future and cause to go into poverty. The mother will never get any money at all which will make taking care of the child even rougher. And the child will be hurt the most. Please, consider changing. I am 45 yrs old. I have 4 children. 2 I have custody of. The mother is a crank addict and in jail. She took off with My kids when thay were small. She was busted 9 times for drugs! I kept calling child support office abt her drug use and thay would not investigate her! One day I got a call that my kids were in foster care cause she was picked up passed out on a curb with a bag of meth on her! It took Me a year to get my kids from foster care! She payed nothing back for using the child welfare for drugs! My children never got the money and her EBT card was used @ the liquor store for smokes and alcohol! My children are willing to tell the courts but thay are not willing to listen. So I got a 150,000 in back child support from the time I was notified where thay were! I even had to pay the foster care cause she didnt have the ability to pay! I have lost 5 cars and been in jail more times then I could count! I have never been able to pay my child support in full! Kept telling them I dont make thst much! I cant afford to goto work! I am a construction worker and must have my license to work! I was layed off in 2008. Without my license I cant work! If I cant work Icant get my licence. Now the mom is in jail for welfare fruad for tryin to file for her pregnant baby girl 14 yrs of age that lives with her grandma! Thay want me to pay child support but take away my licence and call me a dead beat dad! Are U fudging kidding Me? Just how do I carry 500lbs of carpet 3ft wide and 12 ft long + 400lbs of tools on the bus? Who gunna hire Me? Job interviews... We love U and are ready to hire U but U need Ur licence! Me, THATS FINE! Can U wait 90 to 120 days til I can tell child support I got a job and thay can release my drivers licence. Thay always say, we need some one with a licence today, I'm sorry but we cant use U.... My old boss explained it perfectly! When U on a plane and the oxygen masks come down the 1st thing U do is put the mask on urself then the kids!!!! If U try to put the mask on the kids 1st U mite not be able to help them! Child support is trying to help the kids but killing the parent b4 keeping the parents alive to help the children!!!! Taking my licence is killing the both of us!!! Calofornia!
