How is it fair that the men don't get to see their children as much as they would love to because they have to work extra hours to keep up with the child support demands. Not all mothers NEED the amount demanded. Every case is different and should be treated as such! You can't lump all these fathers together. I've seen child support/ custody battles up close and personal for years being a nanny/sitter and friend. THESE LAWS NEED TO BE RE-EVALUATED. thank you California for making it harder to be a good parent. my soon-to-be ex wife tells me that because she gave birth to my son, that she has all rights to him. Stanislaus county is widely known to favor the mothers and take their sweet time to get the child support in order, I'm guessing to see the best ways to get more money for the mother. I was told I was going to pay around $270 a month, which isn't bad at all. my ex claimed she cancelled the child support in exchange for me willing to pay $300 a month cuz I was trying to be nice. I didn't hear anything for nearly 2 months, then magically starting getting notices again. I contact my ex and she claims that they "never cancelled it" and that it was raised to nearly $600 a month!!! she has a "secret" side business that she isn't reporting on her taxes, "demoted" herself to get less hrs at work, and is now going back to school. the child support agency hasn't even got in contact with me to discuss the proposal on the support, saying I have 30 days to respond...but where is the damn paperwork?!?!?! if anything, there needs to be a system in place where the receiver of the support needs to show proof of purchases to validate the money is going towards my son. i'll be damned if im paying for her schooling...please, congress, help a dad that's trying to do right by his son and not give in to the greedy needs of the mothers who falsely need helpREPORT COMMENTS

I think it's awful the way men are treated when it comes to child support! I know of quite a few men that have been screwed by the system, my fiancee, stepfather, and my uncle. Even some friends. It isnt fair. The fact that the mother is collecting some kind of financial aid (foods stamps, wic, etc..) from the government should not enable the government to hunt down the father for all the money he has just so they can get their money back. Especially when the mother, who obviously couldn't afford the first child, goes and has ANOTHER child by someone else! It's ridiculous! The whole system is unfair, and unjust and something needs to be changed! I say once the mother goes out and has another kid though she couldn't afford the first, the support should be null and void or she should be made to find a JOB! Scrolling through the comments and seeing terrible things about men wanting to take their own lives just because they can't make it, is so sad to say the least. Women should not be getting a free ride just for having sex! I'm a "single" mother, we were married, and I still don't get child support from the father, I have made it on my own before, without any help from the government or him, so all those other women can too! The answer is: don't be lazy! WORK! Like you're making the fathers do (while milking them for every penny in the process, leaving them with NOTHING!!). This should not be happening like this. I had a son when I was 19 years old. I have not seen the mother since she became pregnant, and my son has no contact with me. I enjoy no parental rights, yet I am obligated to pay child support. As I write this comment I am unemployed. I don't understand why I am a part of this if she moved on and started a family somewhere else. Only in this country could it be so crooked, like everything else in this country. Worse divorce laws for men than any country in the world. Yes the system is corrupt! But the courts don't always favor the woman. I work full time, pay insurance for my daughter and myself, and get less than $100 a month for her. I'm low income and barely scrap by, I don't get the luxury of special things in my one bedroom apartment because I make so little money. I've put in 3 different modification letters and finally something is being done after 8 years. But that being said he isn't forced to pay anything.. It's a corrupt system. Legal extortion. In almost seventeen years I have lost my house, my second wife, all my savings, I live with my parents, my life is horrible. I owe $12000 and just recently I lost my job. Regardless that heartless judge will use the full extent of the law to take my last dollar. This is not a life I wanted. My kids are brain washed by the exwife. I am nothing. If we're not for my mother and father I would have taken my life years ago. Never far from my thoughts, I will one day drive my truck into the woods and shoot my glock for the last time. Child support agencies don't really look at what the custodial parent is making - it should be looked at! And usually, the child support is money used on that parent's lifestyle and not on the child(ren). And the non-custodial parent usually can't even have a life except to work all the time. It's really sad. Child support should be reviewed yearly at least, just like they do with food stamps and temporary assistance, etc. Receipts should be looked at as well. If the other parent is forced to work, so should the custodial, otherwise the working parent who is actually supporting the child is the one who should have custody!! There should be rules in place on both sides! Those who pay child support should have a right to know what the money goes to with proof. But most importantly, child support should be more affordable for those who can't even afford to see their kids because they either have to work every day to pay support or they are homeless because they can't pay for a place to live. And if the child is with the parent almost half the time, child support should not even be in the picture except for medical and educational expenses.REPORT COMMENTS

My fiance was the one who worked and took care of his kids while the mother was out cheating. She did the same thing with the next guy after having a kid with him. My fiance hasn't seen his kids in over 8 years because she won't allow it. He is forced to pay child support and one of the kids may not even be his but that don't matter cause his name is on the birth certificate. So now his ex has 4 kids from two possibly three different dads collecting child support so she doesn't have to work cause she gets over $1000 in child support for being a hoe. It's a bunch of BS the way men are forced to pay and are garnished making it difficult for them to survive on the little bit they have left over.REPORT COMMENTS

There are over thirty thousand signatures and hundreds of testimonies on this petition from people that are outraged not so much about having to take care of their children but because of the unfairness and bias of the child support system.Title IV D has created a system full of corruption and illegal activity and it allows these judges,magistrates and state attorneys to use the children as cash cows and hide behind the bold face lie of having the childrens' best interest. The federal government gives these child support agencies and family courts two dollars for every dollar they collect in these matters and a lot of that money goes into the pockets and retirement funds of those who enforce and rule in these cases. With those kind of incentives why wouldn't these judges set the support rates outrageously high and even add arrears to further enslave the unfortunate non custodial parent.This system the way that it currently exist is designed to break up families and use the children for profit for both the custodial parent and their own interest. Nobody is addressing this issue because of the revenue that it is creating for the states kinda like how so many people were against the abolishment of slavery because of what it would do to their own personal financial gains regardless of the tyranny it caused.This system is allowed to extort people and throw them into jail(debtors prisons) if they can't meet the extortion demands of the courts and that's illegal. Congress needs to step in and fix this this problem,there needs be a complete reform of the child support system that would hold both parents accountable financially,psychologically and morally.
