I was paying my legal child support obligation on time (2 kids), after my older son turn 19, my obligation was only for my youngest son, (another 18 month) but child support was sending me the monthly notice without the correction, witch was only a typo, when they notified me that I was behind, I told them that they made a mistake, there answer was, if a paid full amount for 2 kids, I could pay the same full amount for 1, now my sons are 31 and 30, and I'm still paying, not child support, but a debt to their mother, and the Florida department of revenue suspended my D.L. even knowing that there is no more children in the equation.REPORT COMMENTS

I feel very strongly about this. This is not a common sense law. Families a nd mens lives are ruined during their working years because of this law. I am a 67 year old woman who raised 4 children with no child support. My ex husband helped when he could. I made friends with his wife and made her understand how things were for his first family and I had no problems from her when we needed extra help. My children were not deprived of their fAther but they were deprived of a lot of other things I would have loved them to have but they turned out fine and learned to be stronger than they might have if I had been able to give them everything I would have. I am watching a grandson go through a loss of hope because of back child support. He and many others have given up. He has had pay checks when he was working with 00. Worked for nothing. .They are not supposed to be able to take it all but they do. I have written to senators and now our new Governor. Governor Greiten in Missouri with no response. WHO COULD HAVE INVENTED SUCH A STUPID LAW AND WHY DO THE STATES ADOPT IT. IS THEIR NO REASONING??? When I worked as a realtor I saw young men sleeping on couches and living at parents and not able to have a life. Many jobs require a license and having a way to work is even more impotant if you live in the suburbs or the rural areas.. I wonder how many fathers woud be contributing and have a better life themselves and example to their children if it weren't for this STUPID law. Why hasn't anyone seen the ignorance and destruction of this law? Take their taxes and a percentage of their earnings but LET THEM HAVE A WAY OF EARNING!REPORT COMMENTS

As a whole we need help, non- custodial parents are at the worst end of the stick with no help a lot of people pay there child support and are willing to work to keep payments up to date but our government is not, they want you to fall into dept, if we can't work ,we can't pay. I guess that's 1 of the crooked ways our government sends us to the streets to maintain there #s with arrest, cuz at that point only thing left is selling drugs or robbing ppl, I think I speak for many when I say this needs to change ..REPORT COMMENTS

My ex is a meth addict. And is 10G behind in support payments. She's also an RN. she has destroyed her life by her own undoing.... why should delinquent people lose license??? She's had 5 months to make an attempt. She's made zero payments in a yr. So why should the kids suffer because idiots don't pay their support. 4 didnt pay a fine 20years ago o be honest i was still a minor and shouldnt have been held responsable 4m disabled and still waiting for ssi i have no income to pay my fines and im unable to pay child suport . i have 5kids and their sports ext. i can not live without a DL.ive asked judges for a solutions and no help the dmv dont even know how to help me theirs got to be a diffrent way , it shouldnt be made imposable to live . why caant i go to walmart and buy my 5ids something they need for school without feeling like a criminalREPORT COMMENTS

That's my situation right now and I'm a 44yr old man that never had his driver's license but can't get them because of being unemployed and owing child, support not to mention being and ex felon on top of that. So you see people want to change there lives but a man feels worthless knowing that he can't provide for his kids,let alone his self,which comes down to choices,even when I want to make the right one's and do the right thing. No excuses but people will do what ever,when it comes to survival, meaning selling drugs to survive but that's a dead end because all that do is land you back in prison or you end up dead! Talk about about the feeling of being stuck in between a rock and a hard place. This situation makes a lot of men have suicidal thoughts as well as the matter makes you feel so hopeless and handicap. I'm a man that has no one,when it comes to family and has been on my own since I was 15yrs old. So many men would work if child support wouldn't keep them down because it's bad for a man when he is and ex felon as it is. My mom had 3 boys and I'm thee only one left alive. I lost my older brother and little brother the same year in 2006 to violence. I still try to hang on by doing the right thing because I refuse to sell drugs and use that as and excuse to get around child support. Sometimes prayer doesn't even help but there's got to be a God because my unseen force/help refuses to let me make bad choices do to my current situation but keeps me believing in hope and holding on to faith and my dreams. Feeling less of a man with 4 little boys and a 23yr old daughter that knows my situation hurts to the center of my heart! Driver's license suspension simply keeps people in poverty with no way to dig out and be able to earn a living to pay their child support - this is a bad law! It should be overturned. If we want people to be responsible parents, we must allow them to earn a living. Is this just another money maker for state governments with all the required reinstatement fees that must be paid? This doesn't help the children in any way. Once someone is suspended and can't drive to a job - how are they ever supposed to catch up and get right with the system? Currently, they can't! Essentially this law punishes people for being parents. The economy has been toast for almost a decade, most people are eking out a living. My license has been suspended for 12 years and tried to get the support reduced, the hearing was telephonic due to the fact that I am disabled and live out of state, the court wasn't interested in what I make now, all they cared about was what my retro pay was through SSD, I would not tell them, as that would violate my 5th amendment rights, so they hung up on me, and now, still no DL after 2 years since the hearing! I cannot afford an attorney, so i'm basically screwed, this is a slippery slope created to enslave the working class and especially the disabled!REPORT COMMENTS

I have called between 20 and 25 times and I either got no reply or was told to come up with money. My license has been suspended even though child support is already receiving a satisfactory repayment plan. Child support is currently garnishing my wages and taking an extra $100. Per month to recoup the arrears which is less than $1000. Child support enforcement sent me a letter that I received in October of 2016 giving me 40 days to respond to the threat of license suspension. I responded by sending copies of my work check stubs, my 2015 tax return paperwork, a notarized affidavit of net worth, and my drivers license. When I called to inform them of the paperwork I mailed they told me it will take them 20 business days to process it. Their processing time exceeded the 40 days they gave me to return the paperwork to them. So they suspended my license. I work with developmentally disabled people and am required to drive. Child support seems to be trying to cause not only a financial hardship but unemployment which would result in more arrears leading to incarceration. I was once told by a child support representative that me being incarerated by child support is a moot point because they were not getting paid by me anyway. So why not put me in jail.REPORT COMMENTS

I understand if I am unemployed, but as long as my license is suspended I can notell work due to my job. (HVAC/R) I pay when I am working. I just can't keep a job due to no license. I feel is you can prove you have a job and you have your child support cone out of your paycheck then your license can't be take. Your putting Parents further in debt when license are taken away. Parents have to chance continuing to drive getting tickets, jail time, court fees on top of the support they are now struggling to pay cause they can't get back and forth to work.. Bus passes range 75$per wk or up to 300$ a month so after child support, taxes, bus fare,rent ,food, bills you are in the hole financially and can't even take care of yourself better yet your child.. It's almost impossible to hold 2 jobs without reliable transportation... There are already way too many obstacles for a parent on child support but this one is just another way to keep father's penniless.
