We need our immigration policies to match the immigration policies of other developed nations around the world. If we eliminated provision for anchor babies, we eliminate all the heart wrenching stories of parents being deported without their children. It is awful I agree-- not being sarcastic. It is tragic. Truly--my friend is a NICU nurse--our public hospitals are full of illegal immigrants who came to the US to have a baby in order to manipulate the system. Requiring one parent be a legal citizen is not asking too much. Our immigration system should be identical to France's, Australia's, etc., and then we would not be confronted with so many of the awful moral dilemmas which arise from that situation.Feb 9th, 2017Someone from Salem, NH writes:
We need to Stop this madness i am sick and tired of this nonsense it cost the tax payed millions of dollars every year and our legislature are doing nothing about it and the solution is very simple 1-the person who come to USA pregnant do not have a social security# their visa sponsor must assume all hospital expense and other expenses as it stated in the current immigration law . Any person who come to USA can not become a burden on the tax payer for at least two years and it is their visa sponsor to assume any and expense that might rises from their visitors 2- the child must not receive a ss# unless one of the parents is a us citizen or legal resident 3- USA passports must not be issued to any child unless a proof of at least on parent to be a US citizen 4- revoke their visa to any visitors who come in to deliver their babies at American tax payers expense enforce the " one in one out policy "their visa should be voided immediately upon leaving with their child and not be premited to enter the USA again for a period of not less than 20 years 5-severe fine and penalty for the person who is supporting promotes thisREPORT COMMENTS

When the 14th Amendment was introduced our forefathers didn't know that pregnant women will start coming to America by airplane..they thought they would still be travelling in steam ships..and the pregnant will not take the risk travelling for months if not days..just to reach America to deliver babies.Things have changed since then, hence the 14th Amendment needs to be changed too. Either parents must be a US Citizen for the baby to become automatic citizen..FINAL...No hocus pocus..No debates...If they still manage to sneak in to the US soil, they should be barred from availing free pre-natal care, labor and from receiving any financial aids...they should pay up front and be deported soon after the baby is born..the baby cannot claim birth right citizenship at all..REPORT COMMENTS

The new trend in my home town is (wealthy) Chinese coming to the US at 7-8 months pregnant, staying in a Chinese ran for-profit home or apartment, delivering the baby and heading back home. Now the kid has all rights and benefits of US Citizenship for future use. Not to mention the Mexican women who do the same and then either stay or go back home. The financial burden is huge, and for a lifetime...while taking away from legitimate citizens and immigrants. STOP THE ANCHOR BABY RULE!REPORT COMMENTS

I live in Texas where Lone Star cards and Medicaid abound. Our entitlement system in this State is sorely abused. I see people everday who are workable age whipping out the LS card then drive away in a nice car. They are able to pay fot all those tattoos and piercings, but not for groceries. Entitlements need to be scrutinized to weed out the abusers. They should be for children, the elderly, veterans and the disabled. You don' t work, you don't eat. Anchor babies are a burden to our economic system because of all who it involves. People protesting "do not separate the families" created this problem themselves. I work in an OBGYN office. Just had a patient come in for her postpartum visit- she couldn't even wait 6 weeks because she is flying back home this week. She has been a self pay this whole pregnancy and now has an anchor baby. I don't understand how these people get away with this. VERY FRUSTRATING. Yeah I get she paid her bills but I SEE A LOT MORE that just have medical assistance. They come in without a SS # and a photo ID but have medical assistance.... HOW?!!REPORT COMMENTS

Congress should amend this. If someone is in this country illegally, their children should not be citizens and receive benefits from the government! Illegals should not be allowed to hold employment. If we cut the assistance and tighten tighten down on employment, less people will come here. It's becoming an epidemic. We have a system to come here legally and become a citizen. Anyone here that hasn't gone through the proper channels are criminals. They are here intentionally breaking our laws, and should not be rewarded. I am sure the founding fathers did not anticipate this type of action when the law was enacted!
