I agree completely. It takes months before you are even able to function again.REPORT COMMENTS

Grief of this magnitude is life long and employers and co-workers need to be sensitive to the fact that no matter how much time is taken for leave, the loss lingers and a widowed person is forever changed.REPORT COMMENTS

A widow or widower should be allowed as much time as it takes to grieve. Grief has no timeline nor does it discriminate.REPORT COMMENTS

I lost my husband, age 37, after caring for him through a 7-year illness. I was 'fortunate' enough to be allowed 5 days bereavment, although my boss came to the funeral home (Tuesday) and asked if I could come back on Friday because they were so busy. Those who have not actually lost a spouse have no clue what it does to the surviving spouse - it isn't "like" losing your best dog, or your grandma, or even your brother or your dad....it is unique (as are each of those losses), but it certainly is on par with a serious illness that deserves 5 days to begin recovery. Thank you.REPORT COMMENTS

Horrible! I can relate but did not have a job. My husband was a NYPD 9/11 responder. After over 20 years on the job we were left without medical insurance. My children and I were shattered. Our life as never been the same. No one can relate unless they go through this themselves!!REPORT COMMENTS

I was able to grieve for a year after his death (due to unemployment) but it helped. Everyone should have time, and not because of the economy!!!REPORT COMMENTS

I lost my fiance almost seven months ago and still am not able to wrap my mind around returning the real world. I am 26 and was left with our one year old son to raise alone. Three days is absolutely absurd. It takes a lifetime to deal with this type of loss and pain that wont end. I hope my signature helps.REPORT COMMENTS
