I ask our elected officials who have lost a spouse to remind themselves how long it to *them* to "get over" the loss.

I totally doubt anyone will pay attention or care. The death of a spouse, or signifigant other along with a child has to be the worst thing in the world. Let people grieve as they should. Yes everyone is different but come on 3 days? That is stupid!

I believe that FMLA should cover the death of a spouse or significant other. I was 31 at the time that my 36 year old boyfriend died unexpectedly from a heart attack, I was allowed a week off. A week is hardly time to plan services, let alone heal at all. Three days, in my opinion, is not anywhere near enough time to even think about a return to work after losing a spouse to death

I had to deal with my husbands cancer for nine months. Then when I died I had three days to get over it and return to work. One year later, I'm still not over it.

The death of a mate is a mind, body and soul altering experience that cannot be compared to any other loss. It changes EVERYTHING and the person going through it is more vulnerable than a person who has not gone through it can ever begin to imagine. We are more accident prone, more vulnerable to illness, more apt to errors in judgement and mistakes and much, much more fragile than we look. Please protect new widows/widowers. It's the compassionate thing to do for them and it's smarter and safer for those they work with.

3 days is not even close to enough! This isn't a pet dying, this is a spouse! & amidst all the shock, sadness, scariness, etc, there is a million decisions to be made for funerals, insurance, notifications, forms upon forms, etc... I pray that whomever decided this was "good enough" never has to know this life shattering, gut-wrenching, & absolutely heartbreaking  situation as a reality... just please, listen to those whom have.  :( ...the whole thing is just so broken, much like anything else requiring more compassion in this world!

New widows need support! My boss told me that it was her expectation that I would never cry at work after the death of my husband. We are both nurses and she should have known better. I had to return to work almost immediately because I used my FMLA when he was in the hospital and in ICU.
