I have worked since I was 14. I have always been a contributing member of society. Please repeal WEP/GPO now. Do not punish government employees for all their hard work. Do the right thing!!

I was shocked to learn of this inequity. There is NO justification for continuing it. Repeal WEP/GPO now.

I am a retired widow and I feel discriminated by these windfalls. It was bad to realize I could not draw my SS, but I didn't pay all in. However my husband did and when I found out I could not draw his full SS that was devastating. The off set difference was about $1100. I so hope we are able to do this!

I am a woman who started public school teaching at mid-life after a divorce. Before that, I worked in the private sector, paying into social security, as did my husband. I then spent 20 years in public school teaching. Since the GPO/WEP laws did not go into effect until January 1, 1986, I had no idea when I began teaching that the pension due me from Social Security would be more than cut in half, income I was counting on to give me a full pension at retirement. Now I am 68, retired, but forced to live on half of the benefit of my entire adult working life. This impacts my life greatly at this time, including home ownership. It is very unfair that we, who have worked the first half of our adult lives paying into Social Security, are then penalized for spending the second half of our employment career at a public service occupation. I feel this impacts women from my generation in particular, who have often entered a public sector profession in mid-life, after children are grown. I very much appreciate your support in the passage of this bill.

while working, I didn't pay in to ss at a reduced rate so it should not be reduced now that I've retired.

Yes!! Teachers deserve their social security--they earned it, and it is theirs.

This law is detrimental to seniors. My father, a recent widower, is drowning in debt because of this. It is unfair that his wife worked all her life and paid into the system and he is only entitled to $4.00 of that money because he was a public employee. Give these people what they and their spouses are entitled to after working 40+ years and contributing to social security.

Single mom raising child, had to work 2 sometime 3 jobs to get by. Social security taken out on me all those years from 2 of my jobs, been working since I was 14. Now when I get ready to retire after giving federal gov. ( postal worker) 30 years, and still working part time, I can't have my full benefits from social security, not fair, why did u keep taking my money if u were not going to let me draw. There r people who have pension from military, govement and social security, but someone like myself can't get what we r entitled too. Please repeal that law.

Is the right thing to do for those of us that have worked another job to get through college and supplement the low starting wages for teachers.

This is needed by people like me who entered the teaching profession late, after working many years earning Social Security. I will need my earned SS benefits to supplement a very small pension when I retire.

I am a member of the population which changed direction at mid-life. When I began teaching at age 35 I had already spent 15 years working under Social Security. When I left teaching I again worked under Social Security for another 13 years. Since the GPO/WEP laws did not go into effect until January 1, 1986, I had no idea when I began teaching that the pension due me from Social Security would be more than cut in half, income I was counting on to give me a full pension at retirement. I estimate that at a minimum, I have lost $18,000 to the WEP, money that I expected would complete my pension after working only 19 years in a public school position in the State of Maine. It is totally unfair, that we who have worked under Social Security are penalized for spending part of our employment career at public service occupations. I appreciate your support in the passage of this bill.
