I feel as a young Californian that my vote, and most people I know feel, that the vote doesn't matter here. I sometimes think about how different would the voting turnout be if everyone knew it mattered. In non-swing states, or at least in states that have stayed red/blue for most of history, peoples' vote is very irrelevant. I would think it would not only make the turnout better but make political discourse more focused on people most directly affected by the issues they are voting for. The Electoral College no longer serves the purpose that our founding fathers envisioned. It was put in place, and was to include the most knowledgeable people so that the president would be elected solely on merit, and without regard to political party. That is no longer the case, and it has become a detriment to the country, taking the will of the people out of their own hands, and placing it into the hands of a few. Well, us people in the Pro Life Movement were rooting for Donald Trump to win as president because when he met with Troy Newman of Operation Rescue summer this year he said that he would ease the suffering of the babies, which means that he is going to reduce abortions. But now he has appointed Steve Bannon as his White House Strategist, and he is a racist Klu Klux Klan. And even though Donald Trump is a Republican a Republican governor in Illinois just made a law where a girl going to Heartbeat International, which is a pregnancy resource center has to tell the girl about an abortion clinic. So many of the Republicans are racist and are for abortions in order to exterminate us black people like the Democrats. And the Electoral College is not needed now since they had it in slavery time.
