This is an archaic style, meant to keep the common uneducated man from voting for someone that is not capable or reliable to serve as President of the United States of America. No other Democratic society uses this and it needs to be removed from ours. We do not recognize other countries that use this, and as a matter of fact, we would call them not democratic. A vote is a vote and the winner with the most votes wins. Ours is very unrepresentative of the populace in general. Please remove this, Alexander Hamilton is rolling over in his grave now.REPORT COMMENTS

The electoral college is outdated and gives the small states have too much power. New Hampshire has only four people in congress, while California has 55 people in Congress but has less influence in the elections. This would also make a Democrat's vote in Alaska or a Republican's vote in Oregon more meaningful.REPORT COMMENTS

I agree! This out of date system needs to go! When the majority is not getting the vote the system has got to go! This is 2 times where we as Americans have been hijacked by an antiquated system! How is it that Hillary won the popular vote by over half a million votes (and still counting) yet she is not our president! Time to go to the popular vote! It is the only to get the will of the majority to be done consistently!REPORT COMMENTS

Electoral college votes should be divided by percentage of vote each candidate wins per state, so if candidate one has 60% of the vote gets that percentage of Electoral college votes & candidate 2 has 40% gets that percentage of Electoral vote. that way everyone's vote counts its not a winner take all system would be fair. to all voters. unfair to voters that if your candidate loses a state by 1% or less they get No Electoral votes. system need to change outdated!REPORT COMMENTS

The electoral college was set up to protect southern States from being run over by the northern States, because the south had more slaves, and less whites than the north. It is an antiquated system that NEEDS TO GO! This is not about Clinton or even Gore; I would support this change even if Trump had won the popular vote. The people's voice needs to be heard EITHER WAY! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!REPORT COMMENTS

The electoral college single-handedly silenced the voice of the American people on election day by NOT voting the choice of the people. In doing this they also stated loudly and clearly that our right and privilege to vote is irrelevant and has no value. NO organization should have the authority to devalue that right. A right many gave their lives to ensure that all people could participate in the decision making process in this country with the understanding that each legal vote cast would count and would matter. On November 08 2016 the electorates made the majority of our votes null and void. The right and honor to vote is held dear to those of us who realize people marched, bled and died for some of us to even have that right. The electoral college had no right to devalue what a lot of us hold in such high regard.REPORT COMMENTS

Alexander Hamilton and James Madison initiated the Electoral College at a time when women, slaves, and men who did not own land were excluded from voting and the men who were eligible to vote were not deemed trustworthy. Other countries just have a vote and not a popular vote/electoral college system. Isn't it time to amend the Constitution? Al Gore and Hillary Clinton both had the popular vote and they were not elected to office. Even Alexander Hamilton eventually wanted to get rid of the Electoral College when he found out the men were collaborating to elect specific candidates. We live in the 21st Century, so let's get rid of this archaic Electoral College system and just have a popular vote!REPORT COMMENTS

This is not a Democrat vs Republican issue. When the tallies are this close, as was the case in 2000, it should be decided by the people and ONLY the people and not based on some weighted average (or God forbid some chad...hey Florida welcome to the 19th century). In spite of the fact that I'm a Republican, Clinton got screwed. Because people are so fed up with the ineptitude of our government, we have no real choices; which is why any future election will be decided by the narrowest of margins. So let the people decide. Let us be heard.REPORT COMMENTS

Dear Members of Congress: As regards to the current election results (Evil-Trump elected by the Electoral College, instead of Honorable-Clinton, 11/9/2016): The majority of People in our nation want 'minorities' to be treated well and be safe (including women, Hispanics, Muslims, LGBT, etc.), but the Minority (conservatives, and greedy corporate CEOs etc.) Want discrimination against minorities and want to take advantage of minorities which is why the Elected Evil-Trump. So the Electoral College completely FAILED to do its Job, (which is to protect minorities in our country). Additionally, it is easier to threaten/blackmail/bribe members of the Electoral College (only 538 elector members), but it is much harder to threaten/bribe All the People in the US. Thus, having the Electoral College may have made sense when our nation was still very young. But NOW, it does NOT make sense to have the Electoral College, especially because many 'minorities' now have the right to vote and the education with which to make a wise vote, which includes: Women and Non-White people. Therefore, at this time, we should absolutely GET RID OF the Electoral College, (especially if the Electoral College's electors do NOT reflect the Diversity of our nation)! As a US Citizen, I respectfully DEMAND that you (the Representatives of The People), immediately take the appropriate steps to ABOLISH the Electoral College. Please note, that in the unfortunate event you FAIL to take steps to Abolish the Electoral College, you Risk a REVOLUTION. Tragically, it is quite common for people (and especially those 'people in power,' such as yourselves), to die and/or suffer permanent bodily injury, imprisonment, or exile. Not to mention the immense financial costs of a revolution, (can you afford more debt than you already have?). It would also be quite tragic if a revolution happened at this time, as most of our military is across the ocean, busy fighting wars against terrorists. Hmm... so, if a Revolution happened... you may not have enough members of the military to save you (or Evil-Trump). Think logically now. However, I am hopeful that you all will be reasonable and will choose to resolve this important matter peacefully and promptly, (especially in light of the large protests around our country), and that you will choose to immediately take the appropriate steps to Abolish the Electoral College, (and thus Avoid a Revolution and Avoid innocent people getting hurt, and Avoid more financial debt). (NOTE: This does NOT constitute Legal Advice. However, this does constitute Common Sense Advice, from a Citizen of the US to her Representatives). FYI I (among MILLIONS of others) do NOT acknowledge Evil-Trump as my/our President. Evil-Trump should be Prosecuted and put in Prison for his vicious and unjustified verbal and physical attacks against innocent US Citizens, (including women and minorities he has verbally attacked, and many women he has physically attacked by molesting them against their will). Not to mention he is a pathological LIAR. I will not follow or obey any such Evil-Doer's orders. You would be wise to Impeach Evil-Trump and remove/convict him. We can then have someone else be president who is honorable and who will protect (not attack) the good and diverse people of our great nation. FYI All of this is protected under the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, (Freedom of Free Speech). Sincerely, Reena Shiller, Esq.REPORT COMMENTS

The Electoral College was implemented during the Hamilton Administration - a time when education was not mandatory, nor did public education exist, quite in contrast to the situation today. If greater voter turnout is to be encouraged, then voters should be allowed to cast their votes directly. We are, after all, a democracy.REPORT COMMENTS

The Electoral college is extremely outdated. It was for when people lived in very remote areas, would have to travel by horse and buggy to get their vote in and also were in such remote area that they didn't know the candidates! This isn't necessary anymore as everyone knows their candidates now. This has happened twice in my lifetime and I'm only 30, where who we elected by popular vote does NOT become our president...this happened with Bush (I will never forget 9/11/2001). We voted for Hillary this time so how on earth did Donald Trump become our president?REPORT COMMENTS

We need to let voters ,the taxpayers, the regular population be the decision of who we see fit to make choices for the better of our nation . Not a goverment group that's goal is to support the best interests of the rich pocket book. The reason we vote is to have a say of who we feel would be the best qualified to make decisions for the better of all not just one particular group. I feel this electoral college is exactly the opposite as we have seen in this depressing election.REPORT COMMENTS
