If we are to choose our leaders, than WE should choose our leaders. States like IW & UT where the residents are white ,the few people of other backgrounds born in those states move away as soon as they reach adulthood., and tend to vote Republican. This last election is the second time, that I'm aware of, since I became old enough to vote that the Electoral College failed (in favor of the Republican Party).REPORT COMMENTS

The electoral college is an antiquated measure based solely upon the idea that, to paraphrase James Madison, it's not fair that there are more people who live in the North, so let's make the idea of democracy impotent by creating a measure by which slave owners in the South can have a stronger voice than their limited numbers deserve. At the very least, there needs to be MAJOR reform to how the electoral college works. A fair compromise would be for each state's votes to more fairly reflect that state's popular votes, by splitting the electoral votes given to each candidate based the percentage of popular votes for each candidate. (Don't panic Washington - we all have calculator apps on our phones that can help us figure these percentages out.)REPORT COMMENTS

More than once in my lifetime, I have seen the people of the country vote for one person and the electoral college name another candidate. We have not chosen to be parliamentarian, the Constitution does not mention an electoral college, and this system does not recognize the votes of the minority voters in each state.
