In Australia in 1996 there was a very courageous Prime Minister who stood against weapons and they have not had a mass shooting since, and it was not a popular stance, but he prevailed and it has worked! This must be signed by every thinking American. There's no reason for anyone to own an assault rifle or an automatic weapon or a semi-automatic weapon outside of legal military. While it remains true that many handguns kill people and many of those are obtained illegally, the first sale was very likely legal and while handguns accidentally killed many children every year and are used in suicides these assault weapons kill many people at a time.REPORT COMMENTS

There is absolutely no reason for private citizens to own assault weapons of any kind. Better background checks would change nothing. Many passed the background checks. We are so worried about terrorists, we have our own homegrown with EASY access to killing machines (assault weapons) STOP the sale of assault weapons. How many more people have to die before we do something about this. We are a killing nation. No other country has as many mass shootings. We, the people, want to be safe in our schools, theaters, nightclubs, parking lots, ANYWHERE. This is almost a daily event in our country, at the very least a weekly event.
