I just saw the videos at onamfc.com and was infuriated. The police are supposed to protect and serve our community. This is shocking. We need something in place that will police the police.

I am tired of the fullerton police brotherhood & code of silence. It is well known of Orange County residents.

I have seen enough police violence. Stop this before the police kill more people or cause the public to defend themselves which will lead to even more violence.

This story is such a tragedy. I can't believe that people could do this to another human being. These people need to be held responsible and charged with murder.

Kelly Thomas's death was brutal, senseless, and cruel beyond reckoning. That he was murdered by police officers on a public street in front of numerous witnesses sends a message to a whole community that these officers saw nothing wrong with their actions. The fact that the leadership in the Fullerton PD defends those officers from being held accountable for their actions makes it clear that they are more concerned with "protecting" themselves from prosecution and liability than they are with protecting their citizens from harm. As responsible, concerned citizens, we need to work to change these dysfunctional, systemic problems in policing. We need to trust that when we need police intervention, that they will behave responsibly and prudently, that they have been well-trained to de-escalate situations, to protect human life, and to behave with integrity. Sadly, this story is not an isolated incident. It is part of the culture within police departments around the country, and it is too often tolerated by citizens who are terrified by images of violence and crime on their local news stations. Moreover, good officers are strongly discouraged--even intimidated--into turning a blind eye when fellow officers cross the line into corruption and brutality. I am praying for the friends and family of Kelly Thomas. I am sorry for your loss and can understand your outrage, anger, grief, and frustration. My own community is grappling with the loss of our friend, David "Bones" Hebert, who was shot and killed by police on April 18 of this year in Cincinnati. Just two days ago, 18-year old Everett Howard was killed by a University of Cincinnati officer as a result of being tased. Enough is enough.

I'm glad something like this is being talked about finally. Its a shame that something terrible has to happen to create a law such as this.

The six police Fullerton police officers who beat Kelly Thomas to death should be indicted for murder! This is an outrage! If these officers are not punished it sends a terrible message to the public - that the police are above the law and can anything they want to citizens with no repercussions.

These officers should be on leave without pay until they are cleared. Our country is loosing sight of our original protections for citizens and excessive force is being used more and more like the use of tazers on school kids and the forced drugging of more people, including kids under age 18. The cops have a role in this as they turn kids over to those who heavily drug children without really giving their parents the total truth on what these "treatments" do--such as damage to the body, shrinking the frontal lobes of the brain, damage the basal ganglia, cause diabetes, & sometimes irreversible neurological affects. There are also many times no alternative facilities that don't use these hazardous drugs and the people, including kids and their parents, are pushed and coerced into complying because our government doesn't really care about our lives, health, and rights that much anymore. It's mostly just double talk as we're being oppressed by these new world order fascist type of police who brutalize people without hesitation as in this poor man. We are more and more not using common sense and balanced methods for discipline and order such as a couple swats with a paddle for a misbehaving child in school, but instead we now have police coming or remaining in our schools ready to tazer, beat, and arrest our students at an increasing frequency. This is really a shame!!!! Please reform our laws and give the citizens of this country more real protection not just double talk empty paper promises. Our country's laws need to reflect a conscience-- not cruel power that looses sight of the boundaries that should be protected and guarded as the most fundamental principal when governing citizens. Stop excessive treatment and force!!

Police should serve the people, not decide they have the right to kill a sick man, just because they have a badge. There are more corrupt officers than people realize and these people need to be stopped!

It is time police remember this is the USA not Syria,or North Korea. We taxpayers pay their salaries. The police, at all levels, serve at the pleasure of their bosses, America's Citizens, to Protect and Serve, not to Destroy and Rule. We, tax paying citizens do nor feel safer because our employees go out to maim and/or kill the homeless, mentally ill, or even rowdy drunks. They exist to apprehend lawbreakers with the absolute minimum of force required, not to dispense their own brand of 'street justice' on the spot. Thank you for reading this, now, with all due respect, Serve YOUR bosses and pass a law to save lives!

The law should include that if a police officer commits a crime, that police officer should be immediately arrested and jailed without pay until his trial. Citizens but not convicted felons should be allowed to declare a police officer "rogue" and call upon the police sergeant or superior to make such arrest.
