As a former NG AH-64 Aviator, I have firsthand knowledge of the benefit of the AH-64 in the National Guard. The idea that the Guard is not a combat force is something that has arisen over the previous 40 years and contradicts the rich military history and heritage of this nation. The performance of National Guard units in the current conflict has done much to dispel that myth, but it is clear that the shortsighted Army leadership is more interested in sparing the Active Duty force any significant cuts, while destroying the more cost-effective National Guard.REPORT COMMENTS
