We have been fighting for this for the past 25 years. Truly the Military (Army) Leaders should be ashamed for allowing this to go on for so long!

These federal officers are doing the same job and taking the same risks as any other police officer. They deserve to have the same classification, pay and authority to carry arms, execute warrants and make arrests. Why should military personel be allowed to break the law and not be treated the same as any other law breaker?

Each day, thousands of DoD police officers dawn protective vest and duty belt, with weapon, and respond to the needs of their respective communities. Each call-for-service has the potential to endanger one or more law enforcement officers. It is time to acknowledge their selfless-service through the establishment of statuatory arrest authority. Great people deserve the support of their elected officials. Another Ft. Hood will be too late!!!

I have been a DOD Police Officer (According to the Army, I am a Department of the Army Civilian Police (DACP) officer, a name change that was implemented in an attempt to exclude us from favorable legislation for DOD police.) for many years. I am continually saddened to see the notion that we are just MP's in a different uniform continue to propagate throughout the military. This notion needs to be eliminated. I am a civilian federal police officer. I am not a "rent a cop", an MP, or a security guard. I have the exact same job as an officer with the Capitol Police, only I work on a military installation, not in the nation's capitol. PLEASE allow us the the same authority and recognition that our fellow officers, such as the Capitol Police, have. PLEASE take this out of the hands people who are afraid of losing control of what they deem to be another military entity. PLEASE allow us to do our jobs as they were intended. And finally, PLEASE recognize us for what we are, civilian federal law enforcement. Another Fort Hood will be too late!

These are the same police officers that took down the Fort Hood shooter. They put their lives on the line everyday just the same as any other Federal Law Enforcement Officers. They should have statutory authority to arrest and all of the same benefits, responsibilities and immunities that other LE officers have.

Why is it that everyone thinks that nothing of any consequenses ever happens at a military installation and I am not just talking Navy. These types of incidents happen or could happen on any military installation especially given the number of troops returning from overseas with post traumatic stress disorder.

I think Congress and the President were heading in the right direction by passing H.R. 218 and its amendment. It would be a shame for them to stop half way.

10 years working as a police officer under the DoD components and have seen many un-just acts 1. Criminals being released at post boundaries.. witht he hope that they show for court. 2. Military commanders using their rank and positions to influence our duties.... i.e ... Cite an E6 but not an O6, (for the same offense and all because he is a frind of the commander). 3. No set rules or standards from one installation to the next. 4. Serious lack of training (academy is not recognized or accredited. No annual requirements for refresher training. Money is not properly budgeted for training. 5. We are recognized as police officers by everyone.... BUT us. Turn in your equipment at the end of shift and you are "Joe Citizen" .... Unless something happens then the media highlights "Off Duty DoD Police Officer". 6. Increase reposonse time and readiness by issuing gear one time (not drawing and turning in daily)
