They should not have to pay twice for the same crime. What happened to double jeopardy or does that apply to only white collar crimesMay 20th, 2010Someone from Houston, TX writes:
If someone has paid his/her debt to society for a nonviolent crime, stop puishing him/her for the rest of his/her life. Let the person make continuous restitution by fully contibuting back to society.REPORT COMMENTS

Who are we that we can't offer a second chance to our human race. May GOD have mercy on us. He without sin cast the first stone. We all have broken the law sometime in our lives, just didt'nt get caught. I am for the Second Chance Law. They want to work, let's give them a chance & stop condemning for life after their time is served. This does not apply to all Ex Offenders but to those who are trying to get their lives in order.REPORT COMMENTS

I was young very young and stupid to do what I did to receive a felony and still 28 years later I am paying for thi hideous crime of bad check writing. I paid rstitution, probation and community service after 28 years I am still being haunted by my past. I graduated from nursing school with a 3.0 out of a 4.0 and still I am not able to obtain my nursing liscence due to what occurred 28 years ago. The current laws for felony convictions will not allw me to get on with my life. Please understand I want better for myself and others that fall in this category. What chances do we have to get on with our lives when we are being punished for life. We(the general public) are the individuals that elect our congressmen with the hope that they will have enough compassion to care for the american citizens that have made a mistake in the past and paid our dues to get on with our lives . Please support this legislation it will not cost taxpayers anything!!!!!REPORT COMMENTS

Thankfully I don't have a felony but I was charged with one. In the pursuit for a promotion police and prosecutors will try for a felony whenever possible. Their desire to better their careers come at the cost of many lives being ruined. Many things that would be considered a prank in "real" life are looked at much more seriously in the eyes of the law. There needs to be more common sense used by the courts and police but that probably will not happen, to help people overcome these shortcomings of the legal system we need legislation that can allow a convicted person the ability to rejoin society. If you allow someone back into society there is a better chance that they will not be a drain on society. Good luck to all.REPORT COMMENTS

There are a lot of young adults who make stupid mistakes. There are a lot of young adults cooperate and are pressured into talking without benefit of an attorney. Once these young adults do their time, and show they have turned their lives around, I think they should be given the opportunity to seal their records. If we make it impossible to have a job and home we are setting them up to fail again.REPORT COMMENTS

I have family who has also made bad decisions in the past. All have served their time and paid their debt to society. Things really, really need to be changed. You can not let someone be productive in society if you shut them out. That is why the re-offend.REPORT COMMENTS

For having a class 3 felony for something stupid, has restrained my ability to get a job and having a career. I am well over my "causing trouble days". I was 21 when i got my felony, now at the age of 30. No one will hire me. These laws should mostly apply to those who have done extreme illegal acts. Hell i cant possess a firearm, even though my felony was harmless... And obama... this bill or act that you passed stating that "all felons are bad felons" but yet when a bomber gets caught from another country, you just turn him free... sounds like discrimination to me.REPORT COMMENTS

For persons of government to refer to jails and penitentiaries as rehabilitative to the general public to justify that extreme punishment and at the same time, allow companies to warehouse those records, for government and public employers a to access those records and use as a means for disqualification of a job seems counter productive at the least.REPORT COMMENTS
