I would like this "free" country of ours to stop interfering with doctors orders and preventing sick people from getting the pain relief they need. Frankly I am tired of the government stepping into my doctors office and pharmacy with me and deciding what is best for me. Deciding what level of pain and detetmining a proper course of Meds is my business and my doctor. Please stop harassing the doctors. No one wants to treat people anymore and it is getting ridiculous what people doing the right thing have to go thru to get their medicine. Try getting it early if you are going on a vacation. Nightmare. Ever have your medicine stolen and get a police report and have the police refuse to take fingerprints on the open window to your home??? Getting robbed then being told you cannot get a new prescription. Even if it never happened before???? My friend had her medicine stolen out of the hospital when she was in there and they held her Meds for her while she was in the hospital. They were stolen by the staff of the hospital and she could not get a replacement. Even with her doctor calling. This is getting absurd. Being branded an addict because you have a serious chronic level of pain is also overwhelming and unfair. Fighting for pain relief from a hospital after being septic and in the hospital almost a month. The second day w a 103 fever so sick, septic, and they didn't know it but took away the pain Meds during one of the most painful times of my life and being that sick and having to fight w the dr's for help is absolutely inhumane. It is understandable when a person goes to the Er repeatedly several times a month but how about no Er visit for several years??? Then going in and getting treated like that when u almost die from an infection???? How about being so sick with an infection and bring thrown into the mental ward because the hospital was sending you home and you were septic and had encephalitis and had a fit because they were accusing u of having drugs in your system. Even though the doctors know that many severe infections cause these types of false positives on urine tests. Then to find out you are septic and asked them to re-do the test after spending a night in the mental ward cause I was so sick. The 2nd test was negative. That's when it was figured out that I was that sick my kidneys were shutting down causing a false positive. Why are doctors so quick to judge and disregard people. Even people who do use illegal drugs get sick but to disregard a sick person who never goes to the Er based on one test and not look into their severe pain is negligence. I could have had a seizure in the rubber room. It was awful pain. I was ignored and abused and when they found out that none of the other regular medicine was in the test either then they looked for another explanation. Looking at a persons history of Er visits should tell the story. If someone spends years not going to the EREPORT COMMENTS

I have been a pain patient for going on 16 years. Before I was stabilized on opioids, I couldn't get out of bed, couldn't hold a job, withdrew from family and friends, and begged for help. After I saw a pain specialist, and got on opioid therapy, I'm actually a productive member of society. I haven't missed a day of work in 14 years, I own a home, I have many friends, my family life is great, and I compete in many athletic activities. Running, weight lifting, swimming, cycling, yoga, etc. My life is great. I've been on the same dose of opioids for at least 4 years.I haven't developed a tolerance. In fact, my dosage of opioids is 1/2 of what it was a few years ago. My specialist had transferred my care to my primary care provider(of 12 years). I have been compliant with all the drug test, no "lost" rx's, etc. I've been the model pain patient. My primary care provider retired a couple of years back, and the doctor who took over my care recently moved to another state. I am now faced with doctors who want me to stop the opioids. Over the last month, I've had my opioid medications cut in half. They now have me on at least 7 meds to replace the opioid medicines. I find myself feeling hungover when I wake up, having a hard time doing my athletic activities, etc. My pain level was a 3-5, with the dose of opioid medication I was taking on a daily basis. My pain was tolerable. Now, my pain fluctuates between a 6-9, and I don't havr quality of life. I feel like I'm going in reverse, like I'm almost back where I started over a decade ago. This makes no sense. Sure, I can be alive with a pain level of 7-9, but there is no quality of life. If I can't get out of bed, I can't work. No work, means no money to live. I can't get help from the state because my home is paid off. Really? First do no harm is the oath doctors take. How is this not harming me? My current provider says that "I'm not comfortable with your dose of narcotics"! I thought the term narcotic referred to the illicit drugs. Well, I'm sorry that my health problems make you(provider) uncomfortable. Really? They even said that since I can't get in with a pain specialist until early next year, they may not continue my care. I've been a patient in this practice for 14 years, and you want to discontinue my care? This is crazy. Doctors are supposed to help people, not hurt them. The new CDC guidelines aren't law, they are suggestions on how to prescribe opioids. No where in anything I read does it tell physicians to take away opioids. Maybe one day they will get it right. I just don't want to completely lose my quality of life before then.REPORT COMMENTS

I have peroneal neuropathy, when I finally went to the doctor because the pain was so bad I couldn't take it anymore, they started me out on this psychobabble s*** drugs of which almost killed me twice. I was then sent to a pain clinic where I was treated like a drug addict and given methadone, this was a great pain reliever however I was waking up in the middle of the night not being able to breathe, I explained to them that I can't take this it's going to kill me, then I asked this dumbass assistance that was treating me what will we try next and he said we'll we'll try methadone again. All I could think is what a moron, I felt I had to leave that clinic against my doctor's advice just to stay alive. Then I went to another pain doctor he prescribed opiates at 75 milligrams of morphine three times a day which 3 codeine tablets for breakthrough pain. I was still living a very painful life however I can play with my grandkids do occasional light chores around the house and even cook dinner once in awhile instead of eating out of a can all the time. Over the next couple years I talk my doctor into raising the morphine 100 milligrams 3 times a day and I Got 5 codeine pills for breakthrough pain. Life was no picnic but I had a life. I was taking these opiates for 8 years never had one problem other than constipation and I learned how to deal with that. Now the CDC and the DEA with their recommendations and targeting my doctors have put me right back in bed wishing I was dead, I can do very little anymore. I'm going to a psychiatrist next week because I caught myself headed out the door to kill myself with my car because I won't kill myself with opiates, because then these dumb-asses will blame the opiates when the truth is it's the lack of the opiates that's going to get me killed. Can't shoot myself because then they'll blame the gun. I really hate the thought of committing suicide because I've seen what it does to the family members of people that do that. So I don't know what I'm going to do, one thing is for sure I'm going to try to get our message out as many places and as long as I can. We all need to make sure that everyone knows the DEA and CDC are nothing more than terrorist organizations. We live in a country that won't torture people who want to cut our heads off and kill thousands of us at a time, but they'll torture the elderly the disabled are military personnel that said that s*** blood out of them. Bottom line they won't tell you this but 50% of all opiate related deaths or caused by doctors giving psychobabble drugs to people that were taken opiates, that's right 50% that's half of the problem, about 20% are doctor shoppers, in other words drug addicts. When they say 25% of the people that died of just opiates we're on Medicaid so you have to ask yourself why do people on Medicaid die, well that's pretty easy one they're committing suicide with opiates because they have no money they have no hope and no one will help them. And after that, am going to find a lawyer (already havd one in mind) , and fight for my right to pain coverage. Echoing all the other stories I have read,,, was doing fine, worki g part time, gardening, etc, and since january, my quality of life has drastically deminished. The government has taken away our rights to receive proper medical care. It's not okay. Either take pain pills completely off the market or nothing, it's against the constitution to regulate pain medication. It goes against our rights! This probably has everything to due with the shift to "medical marijuana". It's not okay to be treated like a criminal because I take opiates. NO ONES BUSINESS! I have tried countless prescriptions, so many I could start my own pharmacy, why is it wrong for me to be prescribed what works for my fibromyalgia. I wish EVERYDAY I WAS PAIN FREE! My life would be a hell of a lot easier if I wasn't a human Guinea pig, side effects from insomnia to my hair falling out, I even had an amnesia while I was driving home because of nerve medicine I was on. First of all, in reading the comments, it is clear there is no typical patient. People upset have run the gamut from blaming a workers' compensation insurance company for a year long denied claim to congressional representatives staying too long in office. The causes of addiction? Let's see..... Too many surgeries in the first place. Make orthopedic surgeons responsible for all follow up treatment and you might find less surgerieseading to chronic pain in the first place. The Patient him/herself. Sedentary, smoking, poor diet, period. The Easy Political Target. Opiate addiction is bad, no controversy there! Gee, does Governor or Congessperson so and so attack a hard issue....(guns, perhaps?) Or make the issue during jour something that we can all agree on.....opiates are dangerous and addicting...Let's make this a key issue so we don't have to address the more difficult ones. This epidemic....is it because opiates and illegal drugs are now categorized together when overdoses are reported for statistical purposes? And it is a shame that the media is only now focused on the aspect of the problem to include ALL Americans. I suspect the previous under reporting of this problem by both the media and law enforcement as a demographic issue has added fuel to the Political opportunists as a bonus. No Brainer here. Let's recognise and call this thing for what it is.....A serious issue? Yes. A simple solution? Um,....No.REPORT COMMENTS

FIRST DO NO HARM! COMPASSION!! CARING!!! WHERE ARE THE DOCTORS WHO HAVE THIS FOR US AS SEVERE CHRONIC PAIN PATIENTS??? WHAT KIND OF LAWS ARE THESE TO ASSIST PHYSICIANS IN CALLING US ADDICTS AND DOCTOR SHOPPERS AND TREAT US WITH DISRESPECT AND DISGUST BECAUSE WE ARE BATTLING SO MUCH PAIN!!!! OUR SYSTEM IS MESSED UP!!!! I've battled severe chronic pain/multiple skeletal disease for more than 17 years. I live alone and a I am a very young 58 year old who oft times feels like a 90 year old, I'm a compliant patient and have been on pain medications given by my pain doctor for approximately 6 years, in which has given me a better quality of life! Actually the past 6 years have been my best, until these new laws and instruction by the CDC, federal government, DEA, ETC... To be quite frank I'm no longer able to keep my personal care up like I used too, because I'm in so much pain, taking a shower is tasking leaving me in such great pain that's all I can accomplish in one day. Having trouble grocery shopping and putting up my groceries. Simple housekeeping is hard on my body! I don't want to lose my independence. Pain medications do not heal you, however, they help so much and have helped given me a big part of my life back... alongside my other medications, the combination took the doctors three (3) years to figure out what helps me to have a better quality of life and now the DCD, FEDS, DEA want to jump in and take it away, because of the abuse of drug addicts/junkies.... Something has to get done about these new laws because we are now starting to end up in emergency rooms, are subject to heart attacks and strokes due to not having our pain managed with these very important medications that help give us a better quality of life. The Physicians Assistant I was seeing was scared off by them, and was weaning me off all my pain medications, which has taken a HUGE TOLL on my performance of "living my life." I left his office also, there is no physician on staff present, however, on paper they have one listed, and that is unlawful!!! The present pain physician I see is horribly disgusting, he never looks his patients in the eyes, and turns his back on you typing on his laptop as he talks to you. He too has been scared off by the CDC, federal government, DEA, etc...AND treats his patients/myself as if we are drug addicts and says people are out here "doctor shopping." It's horrible to suffer with severe chronic pain feeling helpless and angry with this concept that is out here with physicians, CDC, federal government, etc...mindset and not having any knowledge of how to treat patients physically, plus doctors with unethical work skills and hard hearts!!!!!REPORT COMMENTS

Being able to take a pain pill through the day allows me to at least get out of bed and take care of my husband the best I possibly can. I have jumped through every hoop, I have been completely humiliated by drs, and now suffer from PTSD related panic attacks from very lengthy hospital stays and medical experience through the last 8 years. I am a model citizen with a PERFECT record who does not drink or does not use drugs. I wont even get on disability for not wanting to use the government and others hard earned tax dollars! Up until my condition worsened 2 years ago i use to be highly involved in church as well as voulenter work my whole life. I was blessed 5 years ago to find a dr who after putting my integrity to test, decided that I was a patient who deserved the right to have pain medication in order to help me live a life outside of my bed. My dr, my husband and especially myself are so strict on me when it comes to never becoming mentally addicted to the medication. But now my dr is no longer allowed to prescribe me the medication that I have been on for the last 8 years. Why? Not because he thinks I dont need it, but because of the fear that the CDC, DEA and the DOJ have instilled in him and all other drs treating chronic pain patients. You also have the pharmacy shaking in their boots! The last 2 years I have had to split my pain medication up and only get 15 days filled at a time due to the regulations you have put on my dr and the pharmacy! I have been paying TWICE the copay thanks to these new regulations and its also taking a toll on my health even more having to stress about this CONSTANTLY and having to stress over getting a ride to the drs every week in order to drop my RX off at the pharmacy in time for them to order my medication by the time its due! I am in so much pain, and now that you have decided without even knowing my name, that you have the right to make it near impossible to recieve the medication that allows me to get out of bed in the morning, I now dont get to live a life at all! The government has NO RIGHT to make decisions on MY treatment plans for a diseases and problems that I did not ask for! These regulations have to change! It should not be your choice how I treat my conditions through going through a dr legally! I find it absurd that I have the legal right to have an abortion and KILL a child, but I dont have the right to have a choice to take a medication to allow me to live my life with a little less painREPORT COMMENTS

I suffer from rsd/crps. Information and knowledgable physicians are hard to find. I'm a long term prescription medication user from prior back surgery at L5-S1 from slip and fall to rsd from a auto roll over. I live in AZ and emergency room doctors, PHP, and pain management Drs need help from the government at all levels to treat chronic pain patients. It's really pathetic that I, the sufferer have to educate them on this condition. It's further pathetic that their hands are sometimes tied when trying to give the best care as possible. I feel more training and more research need to be done. I have health insurance and they don't know anything so a lot of procedures or requests for proper medications are denied. Is anybody in government going to quit letting our concerns be overlooked?REPORT COMMENTS

It is inhumane to take away a geriatric chronic pain sufferers medication.REPORT COMMENTS
