My 75 year old mother has a steel plate in her back and osteoporosis. This means her spine is being pulled one way while her body is going the opposite. She also fell 7 years ago and broke her ankle, which now is also being held together by plates and screws. To top this off, she has an aortic aneurysm that prevents any type of reconstruction. She is in pain constantly. They have tried everything for her- morphine, fentanyl, tramadol, Percocet. The only thing that works to take the edge off and allows her brain and body to function is hydrocodone. In the times they weren't trying something new she had a standing prescription for 180 hydrocodone pills each month with instruction of 1-2 every 4-6 hours as needed for pain. There were no problems unless they wanted to see if something else would work better for her, she's tried them all with no success. They even gave her oxycodone for awhile and she would be without a lot of pain, but she couldn't function. This year she goes to her Dr. and he tells her that she'll have to start using a pain management dr. this place is a cattle call that has chairs lined against walls that are decorative. I have never seen such a revolving door operation in my entire life. This dr. reduces my Mom's prescription to 120 pills per month 1 every 4-6 hours as needed for pain and makes her sign a contract. My Mother, who by every account should not be walking at all, went from doing her chores, going to dinner, gardening and taking care of her puppy. To a depressed mess that can barely leave her chair. She is in so much pain that her mental state has aged by 15 years in 3 months. I am beyond angry. When I went to the pain clinic with her this dr. came in and because tramadol was in her urine the dr. was dropping her. The dr. said matter of fact "There was more tramadol in your urine then hydrocodone" (because idiot, you reduced her pain medication) and started to go on about the opiate epidemic in this country. I had to stop her- my mother was in so much pain because she had ran out of hydrocodone that she took tramadol given to her on one of the many times they "wanted to try something else" and she's now the great causer of the opiate epidemic??? My Mother needs a compassionate Dr. that isn't afraid of treating a patient with chronic conditions that cause chronic pain and who will listen to her. She's been in her body for 75 years, and has been put through the wringer just trying to have the best life possible. Now I have to worry that my Mother, my sweet, kind hearted, trusting Mother will kill herself to get out of pain all because someone else's druggie relative, friend, whatever has made Doctors afraid to give her medication that she needs. This is exactly what I've been going through trying to get pain medication. I can't get out of Bed and move without it, I'm in my sixties and have worked since the age of 13, because of such hard work I had injured my back, I'm in my Golden years now and I want to work in my flowers and I can't get what I need to function without having to be bullied by my doctors office and made to feel like such scum for requesting pain medication. I have done every test my medical facility has asked me to do I have all the paperwork to prove my medical conditions and yet....HOLY COW BATMAN! Can someone please help the Senior Citizens we're not dead yet and would like to finally do what we want to do such as work in the flowers, go fishing or play with the Grand kids. It's our turn and it's not fair not to have the quality of life we deserve at this age.REPORT COMMENTS

He has seen a number of specialists that don't do much of anything to help relieve his suffering. I fear my Son may soon get to the point he can no longer continue suffering with no hope of getting relief, Doctors are to concerned for their own futures fearing the DEA and draconian laws to really give my son the amount of medications he needs for relief. I am completely disgusted with government policy that would take away the rights of Americans to get treatment that is between them and their Doctor as well as their constitutional rights for the pursuit of of happiness.REPORT COMMENTS

I have been unable to work for over 15 years and on Social Security Disability for over 12 years for several chronic pain disorders. I have tried everything every doctor and nurse have suggested in order to avoid using narcotic pain medications. I've even tried many things without referrals and unpaid by insurance. Nothing has helped me. Except narcotics. Now my so-called "pain management" doctor and NP are stopping my narcotics. I used to have to use a fentanyl patch plus morphine pills and liquid for emergencies just to stay out of the emergency room, be able to make my doctor appointments, and have some limited quality of life. Now I am being taken off all my pain medications and just lie in bed in between severe diarrhea & vomiting everything I eat and most of my liquids. I now have home nursing coming in several days a week who are deeply concerned about a UTI and kidney failure. All because the DEA, FDA, and CDC as well as Congress and our POTUS have decided that they should tell doctors how to treat their patients?!?!? I do understand that there is an opioid addiction epidemic in the US. But I, and MANY others in chronic pain, are NOT addicted! Dependent on them to have any quality of life, yes. I have been treated like a drug abuser and criminal for years, constantly have to pee in cups just to get my medicines, but I have gladly complied because they are NECESSARY in my life. I do NOT like to take these meds - they have caused me chronic constipation and gastroperesis among other medical issues. But I now have NO options, NO quality of life, and can't even get the nutrition and liquids that I need. I will likely have to be hospitalized and possibly have to go into assisted living. This is costing and will continue to cost Medicare and Medicaid tens if not 100s of thousands of dollars when an appropriate dose of narcotics could prevent all of this plus would allow me to have some quality of life such as spending time with family and friends, being able to practice my spirituality, and live independently. I CAN'T AND WON'T LIVE WITH THIS AMOUNT OF PAIN, AND I SHOULDN'T BE ASKED TO DO SO!!! Just because OTHERS abuse narcotics, my life is supposed to end?!?!? Just because our nation's so-called "leaders" think they know more about me and my particular medical needs than my doctors do??? What ever happened to compassion and empathy by the medical profession??? What happened to "patients should not have to live in pain in this age with all the options we have"??? I AM NOT A DRUG SELLER/PUSHER, NOR AM I A DRUG ABUSER, AND YET I'M BEING TREATED LIKE ONE JUST BECAUSE OTHERS CHOOSE TO LIVE THIS WAY!!!!!! SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!REPORT COMMENTS

That fine line between use and abuse. I understand a physician's apprehension to over prescribe. So don't. My thought is that if you're dispensing a reasonable amount every month, can't the patient decide how to ration the medication? Instead of flat out denying any usage whatsoever? I'm a grown adult. I should decide how I want to manage my pain and I have the right to do it. Don't I? If a pain management doctor is in the business of pain...shouldn't he or she understand that everyone's pain/tolerance is different. Telling a daily migraine sufferer that Motrin or Tylenol should be adequate pain relief is absurd. I have 15+ years of documented and diagnosed severe headaches & migraines. I've tried every single thing that has been suggested to me (Western and Eastern) and nothing relieves my pain. I'm in charge of my pain and I should be in charge of how I manage it. It's ludicrous to expect anyone to suffer unnecessarily. But we do. Or else we're labeled addicts. Those are my choices? In the year 2016? In the USA? Really?REPORT COMMENTS

Really stinks that the federal government is coming between me and my doctor. I just came from my pain doctor who said he couldn't continue prescribing me vicoprofen because I am not suffering from cancer. I have had 4 surgeries on my knee and have been told I need a knee replacement but should wait until I am 50(I am 48) to ensure the new knee will last the rest of my life. I also have chronic joint pain, suffer from several tension headaches, low back pain and have a cataract in my left eye. I have tried many different pain meds, patches and injections. All have side effects that severely ruin my quality of life. Vicoprofen is the perfect medicine for me as it helps with pain without knocking me out or causing other issues. Even Vicodin causes me stomach problems. I am not trying to get "high", I just want to have a somewhat active life with my 2 teenage boys. And I don't want to be forced into a major surgery too soon when there is a medicine available to allows me to decide when the time is right. I feel so horrible anytime I have to find a new doctor because of insurance changes or doctors moving. I am made to feel like I am running some sort of scam. It causes me a ton of stress. I'm all for cracking down on people abusing the system, but people with legit issues should be allowed to work with their doctor on what is the best treatment. People in pain and who are suffering should not be put through all this drama for merely seeking treatment. Too many doctors are taking the easy way out and simply not assisting people in chronic pain. Shameful.REPORT COMMENTS

Hello my name is Robert hoffrichter, I am 46 yrs of age, have been seriously disabled for 19 years.I am contacting you today concerning the 2016 CDC prescription drug guidelines. As you know it appears their are many problems if not blatant violations of our rights as Americans. First: The federal advisory committee act, as I'm sure you are aware. Second:The Human Rights and Constitutional Rights project, funded by Columbia Law School, has defined four main areas of potential bodily integrity abuse by governments. These are: Right to Life, Slavery and Forced Labor, Security of One?s Person, Torture and Inhumane, Cruel or Degrading Treatment or Punishment. Withholding medication to United states citizens who are known and medically proven to have serious pain issues is cruel, degrading treatment, inhumane, torturous, and just plain wrong no matter how you view it! Thirdly:If a woman has the right to choose over her own body, when a fetus is involved ,should not a legitamite medically documented chronic pain patient have the right to be treated comfort or quality of life medication? The current CDC guide lines state hospice or cancer end of life care is excluded the document contradicts itself if read in its entirety. Problem is the state of Rhode Island based off what seems to be the first page, have enacted legislation which now scares every physician treating a true and real chronic pain patient. Most people are being cut off or dramatically reduced in meds , health insurance companys are sending letters demanding the reduction of meds. There is much to say about this, by the CDCs own declaration their data was extremely weak and no real long term data is out there concerning meds taken long term by legitamite patients.By their own words the CDC states legitamite chronic pain patients are not the problem or the reason for the overdose prescription epidemic, why then are we being targeted? If I am dying I have the right to medication for ease of pain. If I may have 20 years of life left why am I left to suffer? With respect to my condition, physician after physician have told me I will be in pain the rest of my life. Thanks to the CDC I have no option other than more suffering. Does that seem right? I have the right over my own body to choose how myself and my doctor best see fit to treat my condition, isn't there precedent showing this??? Please help us because it seems no one is listening. We have petitions going there from 27 million disabled people in our country. Please stand up for us, either an amendment to the CDC guidelines to include legitamite chronic pain patients or to throw out all together on the basis of their violations. I know we need serious representation, again please help. Robert j Hoffrichter 4692336057 1001 s hwy 78 Wylie tx 75098REPORT COMMENTS

Addiction isn't even a real thing. It is a term made up because when people started taking prescription medications for pain and they would stop, they would get physically sick, and it scared them. So they would go back to their doctors and say they felt sick. Eventually big pharm realized they could make more money off these people. Instead of taking responsibility for their crappy drugs, they turned around and coined the term addict, them created "treatment facilities" to "help" people get off THEIR drugs. So pain "medications" are not only causing overdose deaths, but they end up enslaving people financially in various ways. Even still, there ARE patients who legitimately, desperately need pain medications. People should have the right to choose what they do or don't put in their own bodies. By robbing people of this right, you rob them of hope.REPORT COMMENTS

I am being misteated in a pain management because they have the power to decline me or accept me my private doctor can only take/give so many prescriptions and is maxed out so I am treated like a criminal. This place uses its own lab and because I take an allergy medication called Loratadine I popped positive for morphine , They accused me "coveredly" of doing it I told them no I asked them the only difference is that medication they told me NO that can not do it. I told them should have called me and my private doctor would have happily retested me,they said only they do testing,I asked to do a hair test, they said NO! They did not allow for me to clear my name! They told me there is the DOOR leave if you want. Treated me very rudely and completely unprofessional. The government has given them way to much POWER. After I went home I goggled the medication in less than 1 minute found out yes it can and almost exact numbers as I tested positive for. Now they are milking me for $$$ I have to go all the time for pill counting and urine testing. I am sick of being treated like a criminal when I have never even had a moving vehicle violation. I think patients on psychiatric medications getting disability not taking their medication is far more dangerous than we are! There are a few that abuse the system ,yes,But gives no one a right to make the majority of us feel like lowlife, useless, worthless, and sometimes completely rethinking this thing we call life. Till this day, I have to chose another asthma attack or pop positive for morphine if I take the allergy medication I will pop positive. This month I choose my medication. Wish me luck since none of the staff will take time to look up the medication I keep asking them to look up. I also wanted to add seen a lot of people turning to the streets for pain treatment now because how they are being treated in these places. We must do something before they create whole new street drugs and users to boot! It scares me every time I go to my "pain management" now will this be the day I too will have to fight for my rights,or just be another throwaway human they claim they helped?REPORT COMMENTS
