I suffered with chronic pain and no insurance for years. Now that I finally have insurance doctors seem to have locked up their prescription pads and lost the key. I have asked for nothing more than time-tested, non-addictive drugs but even these are denied. I'm treated like a drug seeker though I've asked for absolutely no drug that should cause that response. I kept going all those years on hope. Hope that I'd get insurance and the care I need. Well I've got insurance but I've lost hope.Jan 4th, 2014Someone from Milwaukee, WI writes:

I had to stop a28uear career as a RN due to pain from chronic back issue secondary to over regulation from the Gov from General Practioner who prescribes my medication would rather a pain management center prescribe it I am not a drug addict but when I am being forced to go to a new Dr. And have the case reviewed more time more referrals more copays not to mention the secretary treated me poorly at the pain clinic thought I was drug seeking when I tried to set up an appointment I was treated with such disrespect why for following my dr orders and to continue on a medication that helps me survive along with other therapies and exercise I am not afraid to say I need my medication and I am not an addict I have a Chronic pain issue if you want people to become more desperate and use street drugs that is what will increase more if they are left in painREPORT COMMENTS

I've been suffering with debilitating migraines since I was 12. I don't need to be in pain, I don't need to be in fear of one coming one. There are medications out there to help us. We are people, not drug addicts. We have personal relationships with our Drs. We don't need the government to interfere.REPORT COMMENTS

Government needs to stay out of doctor patient relationship. This new law hurts genuine chronic pain sufferers and proves DEA cannot and is not winning the war on drugs. There are more drugs in prisons and easier to get than on the outside. Quit violating my constitutional rights. I have never committed a crime, am law abiding, but suffer true, real pain.REPORT COMMENTS

I GUARANTEE that if the regulators were in an accident and had chronic pain, they would get their pain meds because they are connected. They would probably try to withhold meds from the rest of us. I had been getting pain meds from the VA for years, then got a new doctor. Instead of an interview, what I got was an INTERROGATION, threats, and intimidation. I haven't been back in over a year. I now get the pain relief I need without driving 100 miles and spending a whole day just to be disrespected.REPORT COMMENTS

I have spent my whole life dealing with back pain. I lived on aspirin. Now I can not take any NSAIDS because my stomach is ruined. I get terrible gastric upset and am sure I will explode with blood pouring out of both ends. I had a terrible horsebackriding accident a few years back. Now my whole spine is just disintegrating. The pain has never been managed properly yet and as a now disabled Hospice nurse, I know how to do it so the patient is comfortable and can enjoy a quality of life without being dopey. Why must good people suffer for illegal users. THERE IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ADDICTION AND DEPENDENCE. I can't kill myself cuz I don't want my children to carry that pain, but I'm at the end of my rope. I've been bedbound for 2 years. I am nothing now. I can't live like this much longer. My heart bursts for the rest of the people in this situation. I don't want to die, but this isliving hell. I have always tried to be a good, honest person and can not believe how humiliated I have been made to feel. I have been judged and made to feel ashamed when I am already suffering constantly. It's inhumane and our doctors sworn to "do no harm" have no choice but to do just that.REPORT COMMENTS

How about doing BACKGROUND checks on patients you "SUSPECT" are addicts. ?n then refuse to fill THEIR Prescriptions. that would make too much sense though, instead discriminate against everyone and anyone, it is beyond sickening. I bet half of the ones who do GET FILLED are junkies, id bet my life on it and i am sick of being treated like one of them that i am nothing like. I lost a government job because of this BS discrimination and cannot wait until there is a lawsuit against pharmacies for discriminating their customers.REPORT COMMENTS

I've been in bed for 2 weeks straight from a flare-up. I'm to the point where I am considering just ending it. I don't WANT to, but I do not want to suffer any longer, either. I've wet myself this week more than once because I could not physically use the restroom, but my doctor abandoned me months ago... I'm on my own now...REPORT COMMENTS

It is wrong for a physician to tell you that you are not in pain or that your condition does not require the use or prescription of pain killers. I am disabled from pain and now my quality of life is less than 10%. Unable to go and do things. Life is passing me by and suicide does look more and more like a viable option.REPORT COMMENTS

What I don't understand why can't they make a medications that help with pain that aren't addictive and really help people in pain. The help will come from somewhere and it will not be legal and it will be a added mess to the mess that is already happening. SAD!REPORT COMMENTS

I'm a middle-aged woman with ZERO history of alcohol use, or drug abuse. I am deteriorating due to illness, but wishing I could die instantly during this agonizing pain. Suicide would hurt my daughter, son, and whole family. We KNOW the members of congress and lawmakers, as well as the rich get what ever they need, ALWAYS. We who are legitimately in pain, should not have to BEG for pain relief. I am at the point of committing suicide rather than have to live with this constant agony. It is not our fault that there are people who abuse medications. An educated physician should be able to tell the difference between "abusers" and patients who are really in pain. Stop making us feel like "beggars" in order to get the relief we so desperately need!REPORT COMMENTS

I have multiple broken bones, artificial hip, broken pelvis, inflammatory breast cancer and had modified radical mastectomy. Now the cancer has spread to my liver, brain and lymph system. I live with more pain than most can imagine, yet i cannot get the pain medication that helps me live a semi normal life. The war on drugs is a sad way to treat people who have ligitimate pain and not the proper relief. The relief is there, I am just not allowed to have it. This is wrong and inhumane!REPORT COMMENTS

Holy cow!! The stories I could tell. The FDA needs to use common sense - no need to throw out the whole basket of apples, just because some are rotten!! I think the FDA needs to make a few exceptions for all these 'rules' they are slamming doctors with. Oncologists, end of life physicians (like Hospice) and Pain Management physicians should NOT be made to jump through all these new hoops the government wants doctors to jump through - it's absolutely ridiculous. They've pushed a lot of good physicians into the corner where they are afraid to prescribe or risk having their license taken away.REPORT COMMENTS
