Seems kind of odd to me that the pot smokers in this country are afforded the ability to vote in laws that allow then to recreationally use marijuana, but if you need an opioid for pain you are an addict. The ones that keep passing these rules need to know what it like to walk a mile in the shoes of someone with chronic pain, just so they can see the challenges and suffering that goes along with it. I believe that they would find it in the hearts to quite the persecution of the doctors and people suffering in pain. I am so tired of having to worry about someone believing me that I am in pain and need to be treated. Now out government is making it impossible to be treated. Something needs to give. I am in severe pain everyday, and feel that my situation is hopeless and that I am being unduly punished for my condition and need for treatment. I got a challenge for the DEA FDA and Doctors , come up with a cure that actually works and reduces pain to a manageable level, or let the doctors do their jobs and treat the patient.REPORT COMMENTS

My husband and I have chronic diabetic neuropathy to the point we cannot rest because of the pain. Not to mention his HNP and my OA of the hip. Our 5/325 hydrocodone prescriptions make these health issues tolerable; we both work full time at drug-testing facilities and we both resent the fact that WE do not abuse ANY drugs but we are being PUNISHED because of the idiots that do. Thanks US government. How many of YOU will this law affect? Me thinks not a one as everything YOU get is FREE!REPORT COMMENTS

I am 46 years old and suffer from an rheumatoid auto immune disease, two ruptured discs in my upper back that push on my spinal cord,I also suffer from bad asthma that requires steroid and regular inhalers. You would not believe how many doctors I had to go to before I found one who would even give me an x-ray or blood test. They all said " Oh, she is just a drug addict. She is too young to have anything really wrong with her." Then my current Dr. finally listened as I begged for some relief or death. Then when all the results came back he said," wow! You are really sick!" BUT,he constantly catches hell from his supervisor Dr. (because he is in a network) for giving me my pain meds. They make him fill out Five pages in triplicate explaining why I need it.And they still harass and ridicule him.It seems the government is hoping we will all kill ourselves, rather than get some peace until we die.My next visit will be the first since the new law took effect.I'm very afraid he will get tired of all their B.S. and quit, or retire because he is old.I know the other Dr.s there would prefer that I suffer rather than put up with all the B.S.After suffering those 3-4 years that I did without the meds I can't stand the thought of going back to suffering.I can't consider suicide because I'm a christian and I'll go to hell.I guess we all screwed thanks to the government.I wish you all well. Thanks for listening.REPORT COMMENTS

I have had chronic pain for 14 years and have had multiple back surgeries and shoulder surgeries. I have had to use some of these pain meds from time to time almost constantly just to function. I have been in the healthcare as a profession as a nurse for going on 19 years now and I have seen changes in the laws regarding opiate prescriptions over the years. It is a new low and will only have the effect to drive up use of heroin and illegally acquired opiates. This is a fact that is ultimately ignored by the government who wants to be seen as doing something with regards to overdoses(which if you look closely you will see that most of these OD's include multiple other substances.....but ignore that fact, the DEA and FDA sure do!). Next, the state and Fed's will go after MD's and their records to see if there is a legitimate reason for prescribing them at all----the DEA and FDA will be looking over the shoulder of the MD soon enough! It is big brother control and government intrusion gone very wrong. The war on drugs is clearly a failure and everybody with a brain can see this. Changes won't come until this generation of fool legislators and government officials is dead and gone and a new generation of young people will rise up and do something sane and change the laws and rules regarding prohibition and government intrusion. Until then we must live with this travesty of justice and prudent judgment.REPORT COMMENTS

The new rule on hydrocodone will only have the effect of an increase in suicides and criminal activity such as robberies, thefts, and drugstore burglaries. My 40 plus years in law enforcement tells me that this is the case. The people responsible for this change in the rule should experience chronic pain and they would maybe even make it easier for people that are suffering get the medicine they need.REPORT COMMENTS

All this new law is going to do is create a new revenue stream for criminals and terrorists. People are going to get their painkillers and with less revenue coming from Hydrocodone prescriptions pharma companies are going to let the security in their warehouses relax and the pills will still end up right where lawmakers don't want them. I used to buy Hydros off the street and they came not from someone with a prescription but from a pharmaceutical warehouse. If it was that easy in 2006 how easy is it going to be when these companies have less money to spend on security. All you need to do is find the nearest distribution center and take a small risk and its a hell of a lot easier than printing money.REPORT COMMENTS

I've suffered from Chronic Pain & PTSD for over 16 years. Why is the DEA in my business? What happened to the HIPA rights? Why can the pharmacy just decide to not fill my pain med for 180 pills and only give me 90 pills at their discretion? This is still America, right! I can still vote and intend on pursuing this with great enthusiasm. As my government has no right in my medical care!REPORT COMMENTS

As a CPP I have dealt with this issue for years. Doctors and the DEA should be less concerned with "possible addiction" and more worried about the probable suicides of those of us who will choose the peace of death rather than the burden on our family, friends, and selves caused by unrelenting agony!REPORT COMMENTS

We are being punished for being sick. Pain is a disease you can not see. It slowly destroys your life. Then once we see these doctors we are called names, drug tested, threatened(I will give you pain medicine if you get these injections). We get our purses searched, they accuse of being drug addicts. When all we want is what so many have ...a life. To live. Not just exist. To hold a baby, take a walk, enjoy the fall air. Many like me own businesses. We have no desire to seek out a high. As a disabled terminally ill person who suffers horrible chronic pain on a daily basis I am disgusted that this country would allow the government/DEA to now become our doctors and tell me and my fellow pain sufferer how much pain medicine We need on a daily basis when I am dying! And others suffer! I feel sorry for all of the people that suffer like I do, that cry like I do, that get on their knees and beg for mercy when the pain gets so bad that all you wish for is Death to come sooner. May God bless you and give you mercy because the government will not. They want us to suffer and could care less that we are being treated like a disease. This is now a communist country where the government dictates how I feel and what I need. It is a country that once was free and all escaped to come here for a better life. All those responsible for allowing us to suffer and cry and go out of our minds in agony will one day know what it feels like! And if not them then they will watch a loved one go through despair. What you Fear is what you Will experience. It is only a matter of time before you wear the other shoe. In order for you to understand what we all go through and why this is a huge issue for people in pain you must experience it. In order to know love you must know hate. To know night you must know day. To know happiness you must know sorrow. And to know "Control" you must know "Pain". May God have mercy on your soul the day it comes for you.REPORT COMMENTS

I am an 86 year old woman. My daughter who cares for me is writing this as I dictate. She just signed the petition as she is disabled with neck and back issues. She is/was also on Norco and Soma but no longer. I have had 5 surgeries in 7 years, left and right shoulder surgery, bladder suspension, hernia surgery, knee replacement. I was taking Anicin for years due to my chronic pain. Then in 2010, I almost died from a ruptured dudual ulcer.I was not expected to live. I can no longer take asperin products for fear of bleeding per my doctor. I go to the same doctor as my daughter. I was on Norco for my pain and butabutal for my chronic headaches which help so much. I was switched to codeine last Friday but still got my butabutal.I am apalled by the control of the government and dictating to my doctor what he can and cannot prescribe. He is a wonderful, compassionate doctor. Now he is under the thumb of the DEA as are other honest doctors. What angers me is the DEA says that addiction causes death. Well, what about alchol? What about obese peopllle and the long term illnesses they will get? Diabetes, joint disorders and myriad other problems. Is the government going to eventually tell folks how and when to eat? Why not ban hard liquor and replace with beer? That is what the DEA is doing with pain medications. When does the control stop? This is America. We as patients of chronic pain who finally have a medication that actually makes our lives more bearable should not be denied by the excuse of addiction. Addicts who do not suffer pain but use the medications for recreation choose to ruin their lives, just like those who drink in excess. Now the DEA has caused a serious problem. There will be a rise in crime, pharmacies being robbed, more home invasions and street robberies for money to buy illicit street drugs. The government has caused another problem and will noww throw money at it in hopes it will go away. I do not have many years left and it is sad that I am now made to lose my health choices and suffeer at the hands of this new and horrible administration.REPORT COMMENTS

Doctors write in your medical record "Drug seeking behavior" when you go to other doctors that look at your record the general tendency is to follow suit and not go against a colleague making it very difficult, if not impossible to get proper medical treatment.
