I think its down right disgusting that we have to hurt & have to even ask for something for pain in the first place, yes I am in pain & I'd like to be able to get up & clean my house, maybe plant some flowers for spring, but there's not a Dr around that will help me,I've never Dr hopped but I'm ready to, I'd love to have a better quality of life, and not be treated as a dope head, all this is doing is causing people to buy from the people who DO get them that don't need them in the first place.Apr 16th, 2015Someone from Katy, TX writes:
People are in "REAL" pain! And the Doctors are afraid of the DEA! Does the DEA have their Doctor Degree? I agree some so called "DOCTORS " are only in it for the money, but why make us in real pain suffer? I don't get it! There has to be a better way.REPORT COMMENTS

Is there a pain pill problem in this country ? Yes, there is !!! A solution needs to be made though, to help the people in chronic pain and not to lump us as all crazy addicts when we are not !! I would like to be able to clean my house ! Is that really to much to ask for ??? Give Drs back the right to care for their patients and please educate them on giving pain pills in a reasonable and responsible manner. Why do we all have to suffer because of DEA's stupid attempt at cleaning up abusers, that has failed miserably and has only hurt those of us who are good, responsible citizens in pain. The whole country has gone mad over this !!!REPORT COMMENTS

A few years ago, my father was dying from pancreatic cancer, one of the more painful ones, we were told. I took him to a pain clinic. The very first think they did was to read him the riot act. No early refills, no lost prescriptions, no higher doses without seeing the doctor, no pain meds from any other doctor but this one, and so forth and so on. They didn't even bother to ask him what he was there for before they began treating him like a drug seeker. He was 70 years old and dying. He deserved more respect than that. And now, I find myself in chronic pain as well. My doctor does her best to keep me comfortable, but we've given up on achieving pain free. You need to stop and think about what you are doing to those of us in chronic, severe pain. How are we supposed to live? How are we supposed to function? You start punishing doctors for doing their job, then you also start punishing the innocent. What have I done to deserve to live in this level of pain? What has my doctor done wrong by helping me? The answer to both of those questions: absolutely nothing.REPORT COMMENTS

Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome is a constant burning, electric, sharp pain that rates very high on the pain scale. I have had this condition for 20 years. After a series of painful treatments I still have pain that is a 7 out of 10 with pain medicine. It is infuriating that because of the few people who abuse the system, it screws up everything for everyone else.REPORT COMMENTS

I take pain medications daily to treat chronic pain and fibromyalgia. I also take a different pain medication to treat my endometriosis two weeks out of every month. I understand why there needs to be stricter requirements in order to obtain pain medications. However, not every one is a drug seeker. There are a majority of us out there that are seriously suffering needlessly in pain everyday because doctors are afraid to prescribe those medications that would relieve their pain.REPORT COMMENTS

As a patient who suffers from long term pain, I am so tired of being looked at and treated like a drug abuser. I have no quality of life without meds. I don't want to get high, I want to get out of bed! I take my meds as prescribed. However, I know my doctors are being monitored and being pushed to get people off of painkillers. Why not take insulin from diabetics? Take away blood pressure medications? Blood thinners? Why? Because no doctor in their right minds would allow that to happen to their patients. Chronic pain is no different than any other disease. Stop legislating and let doctors do their job, which is taking care of the health of their patients.REPORT COMMENTS

I chose quality over quantity long ago.Without my medication I would not be able to walk (what little I can now) breath w/o pain, have anything that resembles a life. This decision is mine to make where with education I'm fully informed on all of the risks, side effects and regular checkups with my many Drs. I'm closely regulated have never once went outside of doctor prescribed medication. It is very hard when you have a life planned for yourself than due to someone else it was taken away.I was a battered wife, which left me with broken breast implants leaving me with Silicone Poisoning throughout my entire body. The closest thing Drs. can relate to it is Lupus. My joints stick,I fall from hip dislocations, sores that will not heal, atrophy everywhere on my body, hair loss, severe migraines, sleepless nights from pain any scale from 1-10 than from a car accident an Achilles that will not heal so my heal is 3.5 inches from touching the floor. My elbow may be in the middle of my chest or my collar bone stuck where my cleavage is. Night sweats or chills that lasts for days and immune system that is as weak as a new borns. I take supplements, do not eat red meat, eat organic as much as my less than 4 figures a month allows. No sugar, no caffeine,no additives,no eating out (ever) still deal with colon problems. The arthritis in itself is like that of a 80 year old all of my bones are bowed and I have anxiety attacks that just make me angry . This is not why I went to school or had almost perfect 4.0. It was not the plan. Then to have people who have no idea how we suffer to decide they are controlling our medication or taking more of it away have no clue what real pain patients deal with on a daily basis. Maybe you deal with criminals but please do not make our doctors who are trying to help us feel like they are going to lose their license because they care. We want to try to enjoy our life,as much as we possibly can. There are no vacations, or extended plans our plans are around Dr. appointments or anxiety dealing with stuff like this. America is full of real criminals, even elected people who get paid helping them however me for one is tired if fighting with what little strength I have. I can tell a fraud in a second maybe less, why than are we suffering because you can't? Is it not cost effective? There are many of us whom you can put together a board who would gladly help you figure this out, clean up the dirty and help the sick people in pain go about their lives. There is one HUGE difference we would gladly if had the choice rather to never take another pill the rest of our lives of possible. Most of us never go to Emergency Rooms, on a whole we all pray, share information on natural ,organic supplements, foods that help, exercise if possible(many can't exercise however do from bed, chair etc.) what I'm saying you are trying to put 2 groups of people in on mold when we are extremely different. Why not get us together, make up a panel of us and get yoREPORT COMMENTS

I understand our nation is facing a serious health crisis regarding opiates. However, throwing the baby out with the bath water is not the answer. This apparent rush to fix an issue that's taken a decade or so to develop is causing more harm than it's mending. The recent soup du jour is that doctors need to buy into the (unlikely), "fact" that no one needs more than one certain sum of medication per day or lose your license is the type of strong arm BS America is not supposed to be about. Their laboratory rats may keep pressing the lever but I'd like to think a good (if not all), portion of humans are capable of being taught to not develop such (addictive) behavior. And IF addiction, hyperalgesia or whatever are real concerns then find a solution other than making people suffer. Also, I do not agree that doctors ought to be held liable for diversion. If it happens and the doctor has done everything they can to prevent it (pill counts & urine test & NO early refills), then when the patient is caught breaking the law hold the patient responsible. And IF our country wants to prevent diversion help low income people make ends meet. Speaking of which I've read that most pills on the street cannot be traced back to a prescription but rather from having been "imported". This propaganda must stop before more and more people with chronic pain commit suicide.REPORT COMMENTS

I have a neurological disease that strips the myelin sheath from my peripheral nerves. It starts in your hands & legs, rendering some paralyzed, then moves throughout our bodies. Those of us having a more sensory dominate form seem to experience more pain than others. Some of the battles we have to fight are difficult enough..just day to day living, being your own advocate for treatments dealing with insurance and such. I personally don't want to go the pain management route because first my disease is rare and finding neurologists is hard enough much less a pain management physician who is versed in CIDP (Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy, the cousin to MS) ? These clinics are already costing our overtaxed medicare system..they often prescribe very expensive multiple prescriptions, (which part D gets hit by) then some are charging $1,000 for each mandatory drug test. I have no problem taking a drug test because I don't' take what isn't prescribed to me but I do have a problem taking medications I don't need or having Medicare overpay for services. If you don't do exactly as these doctors say..you are considered non-compliant and fired as a patient. (This is not my personal experience, just what I have heard from others). I already have a damaged nervous system and some of the lesser scheduled medication available to me for nerve pain turn my brain into mush. It is already hard enough to live while your own body attacks your nervous system add in the stress of having to lie in bed many days because you have no choice..and that just adds to our pain!REPORT COMMENTS

Pain relief should be a human right! Many chronic pain patients have committed suicide, after denial of help. The addicts will always self destruct one way or another people! But they should have NEVER been used as the catalyst for these draconian evil laws. Here in Pulaski Co., KY, we have a self appointed "Drug Task Force" that I suspect is ILLEGAL. Any lawyers out there that agree? We need to DISBAND these CROOKS!! REVOLUTION!!REPORT COMMENTS

Please - all who visit here - there is currently a "We The People" petition on the government site that needs 100,000 signatures by April 30th. We only have 350! There are far more than 100K of us that need Washington to address this issue. MoveOn.org also has a petition. Sign all of them - and send them to ten of your friends, who should sent them on to ten of theirs. The ball keeps getting dropped on this issue and for now it is up to us to educate the public and regain our rights as patients and as citizens. We too also deserve to pursue life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Pain patients deserve quality of life, a quality of which they are now being denied, Instead they face rejection, shame and are made to feel as if they are criminals - all for suffering from a condition that is as real as any other chronic illness, nor is it their fault. If we were speaking here of cancer, diabetes or HIV patients being treated this way not only would this become a major issue of disgrace which the media would be a buzz about but the systematic discrimination of pain patients would be called out for what it is; a violation of our civil rights and the medical violation of the Hippocratic Oath. It is not just patients who are suffering; innocent compassionate doctors hands are tied and their practices, reputations and livelihood are unfairly damaged. Their livelihood is threatened for practicing THEIR art-one for which they are extensively trained in and for which they should be free to treat their patients as they see fit. The DEA do not have medical licenses, not do the Attorney Generals who have decided to make this their "cause celeb". We must fight back. Keep writing, sign petitions, get active. We are not criminals - we are patients who deserve medical treatment and the right to quality of life.REPORT COMMENTS

I have chronic debilitating pain. I began pain managment over 10 years ago. I was able to go back to school, work full time all while being a active single mother - fast foward to today I am on barely on any pain medication and now I am fully disabled and can barely function at the most basic level - all due to severe pain. I am no longer a productive asset to the community I can barely stand long enough to cook a meal or vaccum. This drastic decline in my daily activities and quality of life is directly correlated to the now lack of sufficient management of my severe chronic pain. I see the fear in all my Doctors and surgeons when we discuss my pain. Some have even said its because of my age and what statistics have shown about prescription drug abuse. They just shake their heads because they know how much pain I have and always will be - but they worry about losing there medical liscence . One told me try and just accept that this is how I will have to live each day till I die. Another actually cried and hugged me while reviewing my latest MRI and said I dont know how you are even walking. I have lived with my pain being tolerable and I loved each day. I was productive and could be a great mother playing with my kids and doing activities , I had so many friends - I was a caregiver myself I had gotten my EMT certificate , I was in nursing school and had been recruited by 3 seperate police departments ( I was disqualified due to the risk of my pre-existing injuries being worsened in such a physical job)- now without sufficient pain medication I lay awake everynight and pray for just a moment to feel like myself again - having this pain I have lost my self worth , my ability to contribute to society, I am at the point of taking life hour by hour - sometimes it is so bad I live minute to minute praying for relief. Its sad that the only time I am pain free NOW is under general anesthesia during one of my surgeries. I also wanted to point out that while going through the disability process every one of the disability doctors wrote in their reports "patient is in need of better pain managment " . The disability report at the the end stated by the Judge also wrote he felt if my pain was managed I could hopefully return to work in the future. Yet no doctor is willing to write the prescription s because they are so scared. I and my children dont have the quality of life we used to. People don't understand what torture it is to live every second of their day in pain. To laugh to breath deep to cry to hug or hold my kids or let them sit on my lap - It breaks my heart but it physically hurts to much.REPORT COMMENTS
