I've been a chronic back and neck patients since 1990 and just up to two years ago my doctor for 23 years retired, from what I've heard it was partly have to do with these medical changes, now its been hell trying to find a new doctor to take over his practice of my care all the doctors are very discriminatory and want nothing but pain contracts and even when given the proper quit credentialsfor medical marijuana use I had a doctor knowing I was positive go on describing my opiates in my benzodiazepines to me then on a follow up appointment he slips a new pain contract it says oh it's their standard pain contfind just go ahead and find it its the same as the other one well less than one week later when I requested my triplicates I was asked to come in and discuss lab results I didn't think I had all the lab results that day I left a urine sample at my doctor's request and left with doctors orders for blood work on checking thyroid which she sent to the wrong lab. when I did go get the blood work that same day I called the doctor and let their office no that I did this they asked me if I would come in a couple of hours later so I did after I checked in sat down for 10 minutes they called my name I went into my doctors office he came in a couple of minutes later and accuse me of being on PCP also known as angel dust as he said, during this conversation I told him there's no way I use that or whatever you put anything like that in my bodyhe said well maybe somebody slipped something in my drink I told him I don't drink he's in retracted his hole position and said there is no PCP in my system but the marijuana is still there he said he could probably still let that slide the marijuana but he didn't he used to new contract that he rushed me to sign under duress. I need a good attorney for anybody reading this I've been going to this medical practice for over 25 years with the same doctor for 23 of them I believe they are guilty of some kind of malpractice or unethical practices within this whole medical team because I am on some very strong medications and have been for many many many years for them just to cut me off is wrong on so many levels contact me JC 45 lights at aol.com all one word. I have Chiari malformation, spinal stenosis, degenerative disk disease, bulging discs, abnormal curvature of my spine and sciatica. I have been on pain medications for 15 years. They certainly don't make the pain go awat but helps make it more tolerable. Since the crackdown on narcotic medication, I was all of a sudden cut back by huge amounts very quickly. This has been causing me some withdrawal symptoms and my pain has increased. My quality of life is being affected by this and no one cares. When I call my doctor or see him to tell him of my issues with it, it falls on deaf ears. They refuse to increase my medication I fear they areally going to take it away completely, regardless of how I feel. All they care about at this point is covering their asses because of the DEA's threats. It used to matter how I felt. I was never an abuser of my meds. But now I feel like I'm looked at like a criminal. Something has to be done to change this. I understand going after pill mills, illegal prescribing and over prescribing doctors. Put a limit on the meds. But if someone has a legitimate issue they need to stay out of it. And to completely take away medication that was helping a chronic pain sufferer increase their quality of life is just wrong!!! What happened to my rights?? This has also caused my depression to get much worse. I feel I am being pushed backwards as far as treating my conditions. There has to be some sort of middle ground to deal with this. I am apealing to you to please do something about this discrimination.REPORT COMMENTS

Yet another witch hunt orchestrated by our greedy government. Shame on the DEA. Our founding fathers would be mortified. Those of us who regrettably must rely on meds to function in daily life will be forced to self medicate without proper pain treatment. Alcohol and cigarettes and dangerous OTC's and supplements are legal but necessary prescriptions are being cut out. That really makes sense...NOT!!! It's all about the almighty dollar and the enforcement of hideous "ideals". Thanks a lot.REPORT COMMENTS

Today, after two years on this dose, my Norco was reduced from 4 per day to only 1. I'm in pain AND sick from the sudden reduction. I'm not a druggie. I'm a grandmother with several very painful conditions. Without pain management, I will be in bed and my quality of life diminished. How unfair this is.REPORT COMMENTS

I went to my RA DR today who I have seen for 13 years and had to see one of the other dr.s and she was uncomfortable with perscibing my normal pain meds and gave me half of what I have been taking for years. Yes, they are opiates. I have always complied with all my dr has asked of me and never failed a drug test. Why am I being punished for having many health problems that require opiates ? I have tried every drug that has been available and nothing worked due to unwanted/ harmful side effects. I am starting to feel like I am less than and UNLESS you are dying... is the only reason patients are allowed to have pain relief. What are we supposed to do ? Suffer all day, everyday, for the rest of my life? Unless you have ever experienced chronic pain and suffered you will NEVER GET IT!! I have had my quality of life be back to almost, normal with the help of opiates. So who is held responsible when I have a seiuzure or a heart attack do to withdrawls? Please stop intimidating drs. who once we're able to actually treat us individually. Everyone deserves to be pain free. Otherwise you either eventually have people who cannot take the pain and they may kill themselves or resort to getting other dangerous street drugs and those are not options I should be forced into because the DEA wants dr.s to quit treating patients like human beings . I thought dr.s too an oath of do no harm.REPORT COMMENTS

As a child my wife's father broke all of her ribs on the left side of her body and her jaw. She is a cancer survivor. She has osteo arthritis and fibro mialgia. She is in constant and real pain. Here original doctor, whom she had seen for twelve years, moved to another job because he was not allowed to prescribe a proper amount of medication for patients with real pain. She is treated as a drug addict by the new breed of doctors. I am required to listen to her cry and scream herself to sleep at night because of the pain. The doctors say they don't give that much medication out. They do not say she doesn't need more medication. This wrong and needs to be corrected.REPORT COMMENTS

I have spinal injuries and being asthmatic can't take NSAIDS or my lungs fill with fluid. I found this letter when searching how to complain about feeling like a criminal for needing pain meds. Without them I would not be able to work and would be on disability. Would society prefer that? Yes, I can understand why people in pain would commit suicide rather than continue being treated so horribly. There should be a way of being certified honest like homeland security does for those who fly regularly. Pain makes it so easy to fall into despair. No one cares.REPORT COMMENTS

i have chronic, and I mean chronic, pain. What they give me is a low dose of hydrocodein, I'm only allowed so many a month. So I can take the amount to help the pain, then wait out the rest of the month in pain. I feel like there's a belt around me crushing my ribs and back. I know there is a cause but they look at me like I'm crazy. I asked for my medical records from one doctor, it said I was a drug seeker. No wonder people are moving to Colorado , I will be. I'm trying to get my insurance to cover Cleveland clinic, or Mayo. There IS something wrong. I have so many stories of Physician abuse it's not funny. I know more than they do. Cdiff? What's that? Wouldn't even test me in the ER,had to wait months before diagnosed with a super bug.?!?! Really? Good luck with that one USA,they told me about probiotics, really ? I've been taking them for years. Cdiff came back again, they said no couldn't be, I must have IBS! I brought a sample in finally. Oops it's cdiff. Sorry I woke up , morning pain is so bad I can't stand up straight, googled where to go when your doctor won't properly treat you or try to find the cause of pain. I live in Dallas Texas, don't come here for healthcare. They ARE taught not to treat. What your article says about suicide, finding pain killers from a dealer, it is happening. Oh one last thing, I had a stroke in 2007, the doctor wanted to put me on chemo for a brain disease! 3rd doctor checked me out, he said there was no disease ! Chemo!? Going to resume finding a place to figure out my pain. I hope things change, I used to be in perfect shape, stood on my head in yoga, super healthy with food. Now I can't even work.REPORT COMMENTS

I have a wonderful, caring primary care Doctor. My issue is with our local Emergency Room. I have breakthrough pain and the ER will NOT treat me with a narcotic shot. Is this legal???? They offer me NSAIDS (which I am allergic) and other remedies that DO NOT get me out of the pain cycle. Please advise if you know of a way I can get the ER to administer the treatment that works for me.REPORT COMMENTS

If you or someone you know has not been impacted by these policies yet, keep in mind, they or you could be at any time. Sign the petition and edit and add the suggested comment below to the end of the petition. Physicians are targeting patients who have chronic pain or are disabled. In order to protect themselves from these policies doctors often require a narcotics contract so a sufferer can not go to another physician for meds even if they have surgery and require additional pain meds as a result. If a patient refuses to sign the contract they refuse to prescribe meds. When they sign the contract they have to agree to drug testing even if they do not agree with it or cannot afford the test. These policies have turned Doctor's into the Gestapo - policing people's lives and acting as Judge, Jury and Executioner. These policies need to be stopped!!! That is unless you want to see an exponential increase in the crime rate. Forcing people with chronic pain and/or disabled people to seek other alternatives to pain management is in direct opposition to a doctor's hippocratic oath. Terminating meds due to refusing to sign a contract or drug testing is wrong. Drug tests are influenced by a lot of factors, medical conditions, over the counter medications, energy drinks, machine error, contamination by medical personnel, etc... These policies and contracts keep physicians from treating people who need to be treated. They are further deterring people who require ongoing medical care from going to the physician when they need to for fear of being treated as a third class citizen, being labeled an addict as a result of their pain medication dependency, or for fear of false positive or negative results and subsequent termination from medication and/or treatment. The truth is chronic pain suffers are addicts that were created as a result of unendurable pain. Chronic pain suffers should not be labeled by these policies. Physicians should not be pressed by these polices and in turn feel as if they should treat chronic suffers as if every pain is a result of addiction and not their condition. If the policies take away the only way they can cope with their pain and have some sort of relief to improve their quality of life you in essence have left them no other alternative but to seek other ways to ease their suffering. This will have a cascading effect reaching far into the future and will impact communities, the patient and their entire families. You aren't responsible for the inferior care, pain and suffering the low man on the totem pole will endure, or are you? Policies are not responsible for the problems that will arise, or are they?REPORT COMMENTS

and in turn the physicians are targeting patients who have chronic pain. They drug test patients and make them into third class citizens that are singled out. The irony is that they terminated my chronic pain meds without warning because I tested positive for amphetamines that they had just written me another prescription for at the time of the drug test. Wow!!!! The doctor then sent me a letter saying they would no longer prescribe narcotics for me. I guess I was fortunate they will still see me since they have been terminating other chronic pain patients after suspending their meds. I will not go to that physicians office again.REPORT COMMENTS

I did not even know this law existed until this past week. My daughter, 24 years of age, had a tonsillectomy. The doctor prescribed liquid Lortab for pain control and 2 refills. After 2 days the medicine needed to be refilled, and we soon learned about this law. She was required to go to the doc, show ID, get a fresh new script, she literally spent 3 hours trying to obtain what the doc thought she needed to heal on day 3. Tonsillectomy sounds like an easy deal to go through, but it is definitely a surgery that needs consistent pain meds until completely healed. This whole thing has me so upset that the government is taking away pain meds, and the easy access to obtain them. They have taken away the power of the doc, I do not care who abuses these drugs, those that do need them are now suffering...REPORT COMMENTS

I have been ill for the entirety of my life. Arthritis has plagued my existence. I have many things wrong and extreme pain, and no matter what, the only time I don't notice it as much is when I'm asleep, (which is 2 to 3 hours at night). But it does wake me up. Now with all these ridiculous restrictions my pain level stays between an 8 to 10, and my quality of life is gone. I sit in my chair most always. I seldom cook, so I eat crackers and cookies, and occasionally if I can stand long enough, I heat a TV dinner. My dishes get stacked if I heat soup or a can of veges. I have a juicer, but cannot use it. I love to swim, but cannot go. I still have dreams of being well or some semblance of who I used to be, but my muscles are becoming useless as I deteriorate in agony! I can't even have friends or go to church anymore! Everyone knows how crooked the DEA is. Who all is benefiting from their warped castigation of the ill? That's the $64,000 question.REPORT COMMENTS

Yes this is and should be a crime committed by our own government! People with chronic pain actually hate taking pain meds but it is our only choice to be able to live a "normal life"!
