I have had 4 back surgeries. I am fused from L2 thru S1 and both SI joints. The first was in 2008; the last in December 2015. While my neurosurgeon has me sign off that the surgeries were to fix instability, not stop the pain-he, the pain clinic and my GP all act like I should have pain anymore or should still require narcotic pain relievers. Yet without I have zero quality of life. I can't work yet was denied disability. My PT, doctor, surgeon all tell me I need to pace myself but SS thinks I can still work. I live alone. I have no other source if income. Until I could find a doctor who would treat my pain, I went almost 6 weeks with nothing. I spent most of my day lying on the couch. By 7pm I could no longer bare to be upright. When I've gotten prescriptions filled I've had to defend my need, made to feel ashamed and humiliated. I get some have misused but to deny those whose quality of life would be dismal without pain relief does not follow thd Hippocratic oath. The pendulum has swung too far.

I am my fathers and mother caregiver, they both have terminal ilnessess to long to list, both on opiods for 20 years and never ever had an issue except for govt control and dea regulations and scare tactics and the fda reformulations, its all to try and curb addiction meanwhile there not curbing alcohol addiction so stop trying to help while hurting so many people who are on these meds for reasons the people abusing them most likely didn't need them in the first place, and I also live with chronic pain, and no that opiods if used correctly are totally safe I have been on them for 15 years with no overdose issues not once and I have taken very high dosages, these drugs are totally blown out of proportion these medicines have been used for thousands of years and the only thing hurting the patients is the control, not the medicine, its the lack of medicine and the hoops we all must jump through to change meds and find pharmacies that have them and change doctors every coulple months this is becoming a national health problem and drug users can just go out a buy heroin meanwhile all the patients are left dead or suffering and wish they could put a bullet in there head thanx..

MRIS, CT Scans, & XRays don't lie. Blood work doesn't lie. Physical deformity and swelling isnt invisable. Why do we continuously have to "prove" our pain? Why do we have to suffer with every breath? I use to always say that I would never wish my pain on anyone. Not any more...to every doctor, pharmacist, law maker, etc...who's made this issue more difficult, I truly hope you feel every ounce of pain that all of us endure along with what you've inflicted. Change needs to happen, not tomorrow...NOW. Oh, and Mr.Obama... Since you've made it mandatory for everyone to carry health insurance, then you need to make it mandatory for physicians to be contracted with your lovely "health insurance for all" insurance carriers!!

For you younger polititions : My mother busted her hip bone at age 79,last year. Her primary doctor called in an anti depress. I took her to another doc and he gives the phony pill for pain. I took her to the 3 rd doc and it was a repeat of the first and second, except he called in an emergency treatment for her. But even he prescribed a phony med to her. One week of her suffering in at least a pain of 9, she got a real pain med and was treated. If I had not have fought , I really don't know what would have happened. She in all honesty suffered for about 3 months with her primary doc not addressing her hip pain. Wife of deceased v veteran and done no harm to anyone. Hardly taken a pill in her life. You lawmakers could be next down the road. The state lawmakers that uphold this and do nothing, are just telling the BIG guys that you are more concerned about your position and title than a human life. Also the er here failed her to!. If I were a bad guy, and had crooks working for me......I don't think I would ever trust a one of them . They were willing to harm! if they could and harm an innocent civilian ....they will harm you. It comes back to you 10 fold. The Good, Bad and The ugly are DEA. Later in life ,the ugly are going to ask ,Did you not suffer those who did no wrong?. The ugly will ask you someday , why should I help you. You were willing to hurt innocent people. What do you say to that?. Of course you don't have an answer!. You are next in the line!. Believe it or not! Be rest assured ,you will never let my family suffer again. Do you still not get it ?

I was in a head on collision in 2008 with an 18 wheeler semi truck, breaking every bone I have, in a coma almost a month, and 14 surgeries during that time. I am now held together by brackets and screws. I have been on the same dosage of pain meds since that time. Even with it the pain is excruciating. I still require at last 8 more serious operations. Now doctor tells me we need to cut my dosage by half, because of the DEA guidelines! I do not abuse my medicine, I take regular always within requirements blood and urine tests etc. If my medicines are cut by half I will consider ending the pain any way possible. I would be bedbound, and need a full time nurse to bathe, feed and dress me, all things with medication I now do myself . REAL patients in agony such as mine, or worse, treated under strict care should not be ignored because others are abusing the meds, and system. This must stop. It is cruel, Please ask the question, what if this was happening to someone I love, or to me? Would you still let them suffer as I will very soon? Monitor the doctors, and rx's , but allow the truly hurting patients to receive what they need to survive each painful day. Thanks

I HAVE BEEN TOLD I AM TOO YOUNG, I NEED TO JUST BUY SOMETHING OVER THE COUNTER AND MANY OTHER THINGS BY DOCTORS AND PAIN CLINICS, BUT WHEN THEY TOLD MY 62 YEAR OLD MOTHER SHE COULDNT HAVE ANY PAIN MEDS FOR HER BROKEN KNEE, I WAS FLABORGASTED. I MEAN THERE ARE SOME PAINS THAT CAN BE TREATED OVER THE COUNTER AND THERE ARE PEOPLE OUT THERE THAT DOCTOR SHOP ETC, BUT NO ONE HAS ANY RIGHT TO DOWNPLAY ANY ONE ELSES PAIN AND TELL ANY ONE WHAT WILL WORK FOR THEM. I THINK IF THE "AUTHORITIES" WOULD FOCUS MORE ON STREET LEVEL DRUG USE INSTEAD OF MEDICALLY MONITORED DRUG USE, THE PROBLEM WOULDNT BE AS SIGNIFICANT.

Found out today that it is only going to get worse. That means one thing. The elderly, disabled, You mother, your father, etc......... Just when you think it could not get no worse. They have an agenda, not clear yet why, but they are some sick people up there.Putting it mildly. More trouble is around the corner. I have no reason to doubt this source. They have an agenda, and will see it through. I hope I am wrong on this.

I'm a chronic pain sufferer. I have spinal stenosis, cervical spondylosis, buldging disks from c-3 to c-7 and chronic migraine. I feel like a criminal at my dr visit having to give a urine sample. I had clean urine and I was told I might not be able to get my medications anymore. Crazy that a clean urine sample makes you suffer.

DEA SHOULD FOCUS ON DRUG DEALERS NOT PATIENTS AND STOP MAKING DOCTORS POLICEMEN. THERE ARE MANY DRUG ABUSERS AND DRUG DEALERS THAT OPERATE THROUGH THE WELFARE SYSTEMS. THEY SHOULD TARGET ALL THOSE ON WELFARE TO TEST THEM TO SEE IF THEY ARE ACTUALLY TAKING THE THEIR MEDS .

When the DEA obtains the names of surgeons, or physicians, and pharmacies that fill prescriptions and it goes over a certain amount within a time period they are flagged. When doctor's are threatened with losing their licensees because of over prescribing narcotics, and pharmacies are told they will be shut down, they do what they do to protect their own livelihoods. The patient then is the only one to pay. The biggest problem is that the DEA are not trained doctors, not one iota. But they do assume this authority to ruin the lives of doctors, and patients alike. They do not have the ability to look at the individual patients, how could they? All they have are statistictcal data, and they make judgements based on things that have nothing to do with doctoring. Once again our government has assumed a position of authority, in ascertaining an individual's need for a medication when it simply should not be given that power. If the DEA was run by doctors, actual pain management doctors, and patient advocates it would be a completely different story. Like the FDA, and many government agencies, the scrutiny should be aimed at them, not the true patient that depends on medications that enable them to live. Education, and monitoring, is essential for the patient. However, being labeled a drug seeker is taking a patients rights away from them. It is demeaning, and against their own civil liberties. There needs to be an open dialogue between the DEA, and patient advocates. And it is long overdue for a major overhaul along with the FDA, and many other governmental "health" committees.
