This will shorten my life because now I am less active than I was before. I have never used an illegal drug, never smoked, and only drank alcohol on a very limited basis. My life is now one of more pain and I spend more time in bed because of the pain. I have been on hydrocodone for over 30 years and never abused it. Go after the "users" who abuse narcotics and leave the legitimate sufferers alone. Less than 400 doctors across the USA voted on this matter. That was not fair either. You need to educate the parents to protect their children from hydrocodone. Why can't parents do their jobs? This new law needs to be rescinded. The street trade will continue regardless of how you restrict access to hydrocodone. Addicts always find a way to get a fix.

One of my doctors (soon to be former neurologist) told me that, not only can he NOT help me, but he WON'T help me. I have arachnoiditis & occipital neuralgia. Receiving NO treatment from medical "professionals" is insane. I hope those who do this to us end up suffering with the same conditions as the patients they ignore...at the very minimum. And yes, ibuprofen gives me stomach ulcers. Acetaminophen is a joke because of what it does to one's liver - I won't take it if I can help it. So I'm stuck taking aspirin...that's all I've got for my pain.

It really disturbs me that patients don't have the right to decide with their doctors what the right course of action is in dealing with chronic pain. I think doctors are under a lot of pressure to comply with unfair regulations so they prescribe meds that are known to cause horrendous side effects. It doesn't make any sense at all to treat patients like criminals, or the doctors who care about their patients' quality of life. There is a lesson to be learned from history; prohibition didn't work. I'm not advocating no regulations, only fair and just ones. Thank you!

A friend in chronic pain from a crush injury killed himself in 1995 because pain meds were too hard to get from doctors. Then, they hand them out like candy. Now, I am a chronic pain sufferer and I have to beg for Tramadol. There will be many suicides because of this.

After 10 years I was recently told my pain contract was ending even though I had done absolutely nothing wrong. I have multiple sclerosis. Fibromyalgia. Brachial nerve palsy. Double failed the spinal fusion with instrumentation and screws Diabetic neuropathy. Diverticulitis. Chronic obstructive lung disease. Are used to have a good quality of life with pain management. Now I rarely come out of my bedroom because I'm in so much pain I'm secluding myself from everybody I love and care about. I wake up in pain. I go to bed in pain. I hate that the medication I need in order to survive and have good quality of life has been stripped away from me. I am a legitimate patient. My problems are real. I have lost all respect for my family doctor and the entire medical system

My grandma who is 83 years old gets turned down for pain medication at the pharmacy. My brother in law who is an active duty guardsman (staff sergeant) in the U.S. Army and a combat veteran who is DRUG TESTED repeatedly as a part of his job was given aspirin at the local ER and refused opiates when he had a bone infection in his inner ear / jaw. He was crying from the pain and the guy DOES NOT CRY - EVER. I am on a watch list because I've been prescribed "too many" anxiety pills which I have been taking for years via prescription, which I only take as needed and even though I'm allowed up to 3 a day according to the RX, I only take one when things are bad and I'm having a panic attack because god forbid I run out when I really need it, like having to fly for work travel. I have a full time job in electronics as one of the posters above and I'm considered a stellar employee. MEANWHILE a junky gets turned down for pain meds at the pharmacy or ER and they go to their DEALER and can get heroin ALL DAY LONG.... So lets punish my 80 year old grandma who doesn't have much time left on this earth by making her suffer in pain while the junkies and addicts GO UNTREATED in the FOR PROFIT penal system and can resort to drug dealers for whatever death in a baggie they will find. While the rest of us LAW ABIDING CITIZENS will suffer in pain. PERFECT LOGIC. The DEA and DOJ need to be cleared out, defunded and kicked to the side for helping fill FOR PROFIT PRISONS and doing squat to fix any REAL problems. The leadership in these organization have ZERO business running a 7/11 let alone meddling in our medical lives. Write your politicians and tell them how you feel and how you'll vote if things don't change.

I have had progressive MS for years and believe me it IS painful. I have lived on Vicodin for years. It is the only thing that allowed me to work everyday and not be in horrible pain, 24/7. , I had to change neurologist. because mine retired. I had to to a new one who was so scared she would not even mention narcotics, so I asked her what she gave her MS patients for pain she said MS patients did not have pain, just spasms as she stood there sweating and lying. Se told me to try advil, Was she kidding?

I have end stage DDD, 9 herniations, spinal cord compression, neuropathy, radiculopathy, failed back surgery syndrome, etc etc. Had to drop out of PM because not a single pharmacy in two huge counties would fill my scripts written by a practicing neurosurgeon in full compliance with the new drug laws. Fast forward to a recent ACDF surgery, had to FIGHT to get my "pharmacy" to to fill post-op pain meds, they did not want to fill them and I am talking basic 7.5 Loratab. It's a sad state of affairs right now, something needs to give. The DEA has gone too far, doctors can't do their jobs and anyone prescribing narcotic pain meds or filling narcotic pain meds live in fear of the powers that be.

I fell and broke both of my elbows and could not get medication for the pain. What will it take to put a stop to human life's being altered by pain for this to change.

I broke all 5 lumbar vertebrae, shattering 2, in a serious car wreck on March 20, 2010. I have been through PT, OT, injections, multiple surgeries, the list goes on. I have been in pain every single day for nearly 6 years. Prescription pain medication is the only thing that has made my pain level bearable. I want to be able to legally choose quality of life for myself and not have to be shamed every time I ask for pain medication or pick it up from a pharmacy. I need it to be more accessible. I need my doctor to be able to call prescriptions in, so I don't have to drive all over town in excruciating pain, or have my husband or family do the driving for me. Please stop limiting access to these necessary medications. I'm 35 years old. Please don't make me look forward to another 40 years of misery.

It is really selfish for anyone to play God with someone else's pain, especially when Pain Medicine is the only option. 1) Surgery is foolish. Surgeon can be great, but all bodies heal different. Within 3 years, the next disc up the back starts to go 2) Steroid Shot, just a Band Aid, with only a 1.5 year effect. And that is with multiple shots after the first 6 month shot 3) Pain meds. Been on same does of Vicodin for 12 years. It's the only thing that allows me to work and exercise, so that I can work part time.
