Dr. Freidan and PROP have colluded to ensure that persons combatting addiction are cared for with public monies. What Dr. Freidan and the CDC failed to do was follow federal guidelines in open meetings, including ALL stakeholders and citing legitimate medical studies in order to create a monetized system of care for far less than the numbers cited for drug deaths. They continue to insist that their numbers are related to persons who obtained opioid medications legitimately and went to heroin. Lastly, the CDC fails to reveal that any death that has opioids found are being classified as an opioid related death. If millions of Americans are taking opioid medications for a wide variety of issues, either prolonged or intermittent, then how does the CDC reconcile their utter resistance to allow the chronic pain community and physicians to participate in this matter. Chronic pain patients are being denied care by a number of avenues due to the over zealous and draconian persons who have the loudest voice in the public domain. Chronic pain patients are afraid to speak publicly for fear of being blackballed by their peers, employer and medical community because physicians are being targeted and told to whom and what they can prescribe. Where is the treatment and public agency for us?Mar 18th, 2016Someone from Charleston, WV writes:

I am in chronic intractable pain. I have Fibromyalgia, Severe Interstitial Cystitis, Endometriosis, Osteoarthritis, Severe Adenomyosis, Chronic/Late Stage Lyme Disease, 4 bad lower discs in my back along with spinal stenosis, bone spurs and degenerative arthritis in my back. I have pain 24/7. Been told I am too young to get Social Security Disability (and I am still fighting 6 years later) because I am 42 (because I have college behind me, and two young kids that I take care of). Heck, I cannot take care of my kids, because I hurt too bad to do anything. It took me 2 years of fighting to just get my pain doctor to up my medicine to 10/325 Percocet, and they still do not touch the pain I have. I have HORRIBLE nerve pain. So bad that I cannot sleep. Then, it is a never ending cycle without sleep. My husband pretty much takes care of me and the kids. He shops, cooks, cleans house, works, etc. I even have a hard time just going to the store to get groceries. I have to overdose on pain meds to even be able to enjoy fun outings with my kids (like Easter, etc.). If I don't I cannot go, because the pain is just TOO BAD. It sucks when you are in so much pain, it causes so much misery. I hurt so bad that I get sick and cannot eat, then I get vitamin deficiencies. I HATE that abusers ruin it for those of us that REALLY NEED it. I want to live a normal life. I really would like to go back to work. I want to do things with my kids. I want to have a normal life with my husband again (I am in too much pain that we do not even have a life anymore). So sad.REPORT COMMENTS

I've had 5 failed back surgeries. I currently have bone fragments in the surrounding tissues in the surgery area, and osteoarthritis, along with upper body injuries from holding myself up. I've been in the work comp system for 17 years now and my case is still open. The surgeon who did the 4th repair and 5th surgery for hardware removal told me this is as good as you're going to get. Scar tissue is squeezing my sciatic nerve. He couldn't remove it or I may have been paralyzed. I have been on opana er and fentanyl pops for the breakthru pain. My pain level never goes below a 7 on the pain scale. I've lost the feeling in my right leg. I lose my balance and fall easily. L3-4 currently has a,3.5 mm bilateral bulge. I've been taking these meds for 14 yrs. The early years were taking vicodin and norco which didn't touch the level of pain I was in. Now the CDC and dea are trying to be doctors and lump all chronic pain patients in the same level or type of pain is horrific to me. My pain Dr is so scared now she is taking away all my meds I need to releave some of my pain. The CDC and dea are trying to say that a patient can't have fentanyl if you don't have cancer. Lots of meds are used off label everyday. Cancer has no pain. Its where it spreads to that is painful. I have no help at home, been denied in home healthcare, denied massage therapy, and now my meds are being cut out completely. They told me they know I'm not abusing my meds. That this is the new standard of care. I had a little bit of a reasonable functioning quality of life even though I'm unable to work at all but now I can't hardly get out of bed to take care of myself. I don't use street drugs, don't drink alcohol, and for a few bad apples out there the ones who truly need their meds are being weened off of them for no good reason other than the almighty dollar. There is no max amt of pain med a patient needs to get reasonable relief listed anywhere. All chronic pain patients should be individually. I've also tried many other ways to treat my pain from short to no help at all. I can't put 17 years of treatments into one blog. I'm not ignorant when it comes to my injury or the meds. I do not get "high" from them nor will I use any that do not allow me to drive, communicate, hold intelligent conversation etc. I'm hurt and I don't need to be labeled as a drug addict. Just a decade ago or so, we could get the help needed to lessen the dibilitating pain I'm in 24/7 and med therapy was a viable method of treatment. Now they are double talking. I'll pray someone gets their head on straight and quit blaming the people who truly need pain relief. The pain drs need to get their spines back and take care of their patients. The CDC and dea need to realize not all of us are selling or misusing our meds. That's all I have to say right now.REPORT COMMENTS

I have been living with chronic pain due to severe arthritis for over 7 years now. The only drugs I have been able to get to help me with my pain are Diclofenac (an anti-inflammatory) and Tramadol (which is now scheduled). I do not abuse Tramadol and take as little as possible due to it causing terrible mouth and eye dryness - to the point where I now have severe dry eye and am under treatment for that side-effect (even on a low dose). I have one partial knee replacement that left me with more pain after the surgery than before. My other knee is bone and bone and crunches when I move it. I also have arthritis in my lower back, right hip and neck. I am only 53 years old and fear what the future holds. With the CDC / government cracking down on opiods so heavily, my future feels very bleak. I know that opiods will not be an option for me. As it is, sleeping, standing, walking and moving is very difficult. I walk most of the time with a cane. Exercise is getting more and more difficult and I know soon, I won't be able to at all. This is not right. I am not asking for opiods to make me high. I am asking for them so I can live a life. Opiods would make it possible for me to work, exercise, SLEEP and live a quality life. My quality of life now is poor. I am essentially planning my suicide some time in the future when I can't stand living like this any more. Is that what you want? Do you want millions of people unable to work, function, contribute and have any quality of life? It is so scary and anger-inducing to me that the government is cracking down so hard on opiod pain medication that can help millions of people - to save a relatively much smaller number of people that abuse the drugs. Here's a secret: those people are now taking heroin. The Mexican cartels are probably very happy about the new, ever more stringent guidelines. There has to be a way to manage opiod pain prescription in a reasonable manner! The people I've heard about on TV taking 35 vicodin a day - it's like - how does that happen?! The most I ever got after surgery was 4 per day. It was easy to manage.REPORT COMMENTS

Our wonderful government hard at work screwing with people's lives and over stepping boundaries. Let me ask this is it the doctors fault if he prescribes you medication and you eat the whole bottle and die? I think not its yours for not following directions! I have been on many opioids over the years the one that works best for me is not morphine which is the gold standard of which all pains medicines are graded. It's time you congressmen and senators start working for your money and stop cowling down to big pharmaceutical companies as well as stand up to dea too! We the have a right to be treated with dignity and respect and have are pain levels reduced so that we can have some quality of life as I am only 43 still have many more years to go. I am a Marine Corps veteran. I also understand most of you guys haven't seen hard work in many many years! Part of the reason this happens is Dr.s will stop looking for the cause of an actual remedy. Was told by Mayo they are studying this condition. No word from them. Replacing my chronically restricted bile ducts would help as cutting them in past has resulted in low pressure in the ducts and disappearance of ALL symptoms. No one will touch this anymore. At a pain clinic now. The junk heap of medical care. Treat pain, lessen pain which includes pain meds, but that's it. Can't go to ER anymore. They hear chronic pain and hit the eject button like I have Ebola. So I don't go anymore even if I have big attack which is similar to pancreatitis. To wait for 1,2,3 hours and then get 3rd degree or not treated at all. Not worth it. I suffer at home, doubled over, can't eat, some vomitting, diarrhea. But hey I'm taking it, right. Even that doesn't stop the pain - it merely dulls it. Now I don't know what I'm going to do. My employer is already running out of patience with my overusage of intermittent FMLA. Now, I have to find a way to work more hours while in more pain because someone has decided I don't need as much pain medication. I wish no ill will on anyone but there are times I would like to be able to share my pain with those who make these decisions on my behalf.
