I have Idiopathic Hypersomnia and am getting worse. It is a struggle every day to wake up and function at work and have been having minor accidents and forgetfulness.

I sign this for myself and my family, who stands by me on my worst days when I lose the ability to stand on my own. The ability to do simple tasks and enjoy life are taken from those of us with this disease, Narcolepsy by its self is hard to deal with and life altering, so now imagine not being able to laugh, cry, have feelings of excitement because of the fear of losing control of your body or loss of muscle control. Besides the injuries we sustain daily we have fight for our medications and treatment. Our disease is a disability as much as as any other neurological disorder/disease. We live in fear of what could happen during an episode that could eventually lead to the loss of our life, the fact of the embarrassment of an episode happening in a public place where people think you are dead because you literally have shallow breathing and loss of muscle control. So yes living with this on a daily basis we all know first hand how disabling this disease is and it's life altering effects.

Until you live it, you can't understand it. These are two invisible, yet very devastating conditions. Please help.

I have been diagnosed with Idiopathic Hypersomnia but because there are no FDA approved medications for the treatment of it, I cannot gain access to the medication that has been shown to work for others. Also, at present I am unable to do a Multilatencey Sleep Test to rule out narcolepsy due to some of the medications I am on so further testing to identify another way to test for Narcolepsy would be very beneficial to me!

I have seen many people suffer from this in very real and tragic ways. I was surprised to learn it wasn't already on the SSDI list.
