I've been diagnosed with Narcolepsy since 2000. This disease needs to be added because it truly is hard to keep a job. I'm tardy almost everyday and I'm actually lucky to still have a job. Getting up in the mornings is extremely hard to do. Even when I have to be at work by 12:30 pm once a week is hard as well. My life has completely changed because of Narcolepsy. I no longer have the will to do anything I once loved to do. My 11-yr old daughter doesn't always understand why mommy can't even take her to do fun things. Is because I have no energy and always feel like sleeping. I can't even accomplish everyday chores due to this disease. Please pass this petition. I've had more jobs in my lifetime due to being tardy and from not having the memory to do simple tasks at my jobs. I feel like a failure to myself, my daughter, family, to everything in life. Worst disease to have and I unfortunately have it. I'm 42 yrs old and am probably going to be let go soon from current job due to this disease. No one whom doesn't have this understands how hard it is to deal with it.

My daughter has suffered with narcolepsy for years and has many devasting effects. She cannot woork or do every day activities, sugg ffers from short term memory loss, anxiety, cannot sleep for days or sleeps for 24 hours and has hard time waking up. She is uninsurable and unemployable. She has lost everything and now has no money, or any quality of life to speak of. She won't go out in public very much bcause she is afraid somone she knows will see her and know how bad off she is. It is so sad. She cannot get disability. This is one of the worst diseases I have ever seen.

I am currently awaiting a hearing for SSI, I have been unemployed for over a year, and it seems like they just overlook the Narcolepsy and deny my appeals, despite the numerous other medical issues caused by N and the awful side effects from the insane meds I have to take to just semi function on a daily basis. Thank you for sharing this petition, this needs to be addressed.

This would help out my mom and family so much. It could have helped avoid stress and anger and lots of emotions. Let's get this moving forward.

Tired of being tired is an understatement..barely functioning is getting old.. Fights over what I don't remember...or forgot to do.. Pulling over and sleeping for 10 minutes due to sleep attacks...no energy to enjoy life..all energy is spent working..then sleeping to make up for the working..the nightmares and hallucinations are awful.. The cataplexy attacks while standing... Scared to death I am going to fall..I pray every day to wake up with energy... Never... Never rested, alert or energized..please help..none of the medication works... Just cause a big crash, heart palpations, and moodiness..I feel that disability would give people with this horrible disease a better life quality..

I couldn't begin to explain how many ways this illness has taken over my life. I was diagnosed over 25 years ago and despite gaining some understanding of the causes, little progress has been made in treatment options. I am intelligent and educated and enjoyed participating in life as most people experience it but despite my desires, narcolepsy doesn't allow for such participation. It dictates every aspect of life from career, hobbies, parenting and all relationships, both family and social. It is simply debilitating.

This neurological condition has negativly affected my life in every aspect possible. I cannot work anymore & I have no social life. The impact it has had on my my family is devastating because most of my relationships are broken. It is hard for people to understand my condition & the symptoms associated to it. The medication I have been prescribed is meant for management only because there is no cure. I am always tired.

This costly neurological condition is debilitating to a degree vastly unrealized by most. It often involves loss of employment & reduced circumstances due to serious cognitive impairment. Toss in the frequent allusions to laziness at best and accusations of malingering at worst, even from loved ones, makes it very difficult to fully quantify the detrimental impact of this life altering condition.

In many regards, this is also very similar to Parkinson's disease. This is an extremely brief explanation. It is a very vast complex disorder.

This is a real disease with no cure. This is a real disease that changes your life dramatically. Narcoleptics can't just drink more caffeine to function "normally". It is disabling.

I have narcolepsy it is very difficult to live with. It impacts my marriage and my relationship with my daughter. Narcolepsy makes it changeling to take medications. I always have to consider how it will effect me. Driving is always dangerous for me ,because I never know when sleep attacks will happen.

I have suffered with narcolepsy for many years and it has caused me many job losses, many missed appointment fees, many episodes of anxiety and depression. It needs to be recognized not pushed off as it is all in your head or you drink too much caffeine.
