I am a teacher and battle with students daily regarding cell phone use in the school. Regardless of what the policy states, students feel they are entitled to use their phone whenever and wherever they choose. In addition, some of the worst culprits are the parents who text and or call their students during the school day instead of during their lunch period when they are allowed cell phone access.

Speaking as a 25 year teacher, cell phones and Ipods are the biggest distraction to learning yet. Parents and students who maintain they can not afford to pay for a student's supplies or fees that provide the means for students to learn can somehow afford all the latest technology. Once they indulge their student with technology and it gets in the way of their learning, the parent is upset that you as their teacher are not monitoring its use in your class.

The use of cell phones in conversation and texting has become an addiction to many of our citizens--especially our youth who seem to focus on immediacy in having continuous dialogue with friends and classmates. I seriously question that it has any redeeming value to their actual education. Do draw some clear lines within the classroom and school property as I'm sure all of that conversation can wait without compromising health or future happiness of our youth.

A necessity in today classroom. Cell phones are the major disruption to the instructional process. I would claim it is an addiction that is drug free that claims most every student of every economic level. After 25 years of teach it time to battle technology with technology if we are to educate our children to become competitive and employable

Schools have sufficient ways contacting parents in an emergency. Students don't need to muddy the waters with inaccurate information.

Utill we are allowed to "switch off" cell phones in our classrooms we can not achieve effective classroom management. We are fighting a daily battle with our students who have zero self control when it comes to cellular devices and I-pods. Sam Weems Marketing Instructor -Springfield High School Springfield, TN
