We need to help these horses. They do NOT deserve to be rounded up and slaughtered just because some people don't want them.

In natural disasters, when roads are washed away, horses have been known to deliver much needed medicine to stranded residents. In funerals all across the nation, horses are used to pull the caissons of fallen law enforcement officers, EMTs & even presidents. Horses give joy & confidence to children with physical & mental diseases, sometimes bringing out actions or words that parents thought they'd never see. How do we care for these horses? We're not if we allow the brutal transport & inhumane slaughter of these animals. Please use your power for something beautiful. Please stop the slaughter of our equine friends & heroes.

The pro-slaughter campaign is deceiving. Every claim they make is false. They are duping the American public by claiming that end of slaughter increased starvation and abandonment. This is not true. Statistics show that the numbers in California have actually gone down since the ban. It is irresponsible breeding that keeps numbers up in some states. Please pass this bill. Irrsponsible breeders will breed 100 horses and only use 2 or 3 of them for show. The rest go to slaughter. Horse meat is toxic and should not be used for human or pet consumption; yet, they claim that it is safe. They are fooling the public into believing all of this.

People have abandoned and neglected horses to the point of starvation, in the past, and in good economic times and bad. And, people make ill-founded decisions. That?s why we have animal welfare statutes from town to state to federal levels. People need to be discouraged from acting adversely to societal norms, and from taking cruel or inhumane actions against animals. Horse slaughter is cruel and inhumane. Pass S1176.

It never ceases to amaze me that the pro-slaughter extremists NEVER even mention the Food Safety issues involved in the consumption of American horses. They have a petition on this very site, claiming the closure of US slaughter plants is wrecking the horse industry - never mind that we have been sending more horses to slaughter in Canada and Mexico than we were slaughtering when the US plants were open! - and never the slightest hint of a Food Safety problem. Some have even tried to say the bute is safe after 30 days! It's hard enough for me to understand anyone slaughtering horses as cruel as that is, but trying to bulldoze the Food Safety issue and/or saying bute can be safe.... Words fail me. I guess though, that people who insist on calling horse slaughter "euthanasia" or "humane harvesting" can also deny that there are literally thousands of pictures and videos stretching over years that clearly document the sickening brutality of the US plants. They were in NO way any more humane than Canada or EU certified plants in Mexico. I was inside one in 1991 in Kaufman, TX helping friends search for their stolen horses. Suffice it to say there was nothing even remotely humane about that hell hole. Even if a person has no heart at all for the butchered alive horses or the people overseas who are unsuspectingly eating the toxic flesh from our horses, surely one can see the liability of the US continuing to knowingly export meat that we know is not fit for humans to eat. How can this possibly be allowed to go on? This situation is totally unacceptable no matter how you look at it. We must have S. 1176!

Slaughter of horses in the US is not the answer to disposing of our unwanted horses. Cesstation of breeding is the answer. Slaughter, if you are aware, is killing of the horses while still alive, and only for tainted meat that will be eaten by someonr in a foreign country. Please consider passing S. 1176. Suffering is not the answer for unwanted horses and a small amount of money made. If this protection for our companion animals is an increase in the budget, this is not where the cut should be made.

God designed horses to be our companion not our food. They spend their lives doing what we ask and then when some humans are done with the horse, they ship the horse off to be brutally slaughtered. Human beings are extremely barbaric. The slaughter of horses has to stop! Horses have beauty and grace, they are majestic. They were not designed for food. That is why they have a fast flight response, for survival from predators like humans. STOP THE SLATUGHTER OF HORSES, PLEASE!!!!!

The horse industry, like every other industry in this country has been hit hard by the economy. To use the defunding of insepction for horsemeat by the USDA and closure of the slaughter plants as the reason for the decline in the horse industry is a logical fallacy. The same number of horses have been slaughtered over the years. The numbers have not decreased.

An individual copy of your letter will be sent to each official: September 4, 2011 Dear President Obama, Dear Representative Johnson, Dear Senator Durbin, Dear Senator Kirk, 1.Its the Economy that drop prices on cars, Trucks and Horses NOT BANNING HORSE SLAUGHTER. 2.The only ones that want horse slaughter back are the irrresponsible ones that were over breeding and abusing and neglecting them to start with 3. The (FOIA) Freedom of informations Acts clearly have shown their past on how horses are treated for years what thinks they will clean their acts when they were never to be slaughtering horses in the first place operating illegal for years.. 4.Pro slaughter folks have NO HISTORY of promoting or donating to any Horse Rescues in the US their past speaks for their future plum ignorance. 5.These were Foreigners that paid NO Gross Income taxes or Export taxes and rewarded irresponsible people. thinking if they cant sell their high dollar horses then they could sell them for slaughter and still make a buck.. 6.These plants rewarded criminals like Auctioneer Leroy Baker who has been fined over $162,000 for abuse, neglect, and DOT Violations and to this date has NOT paid one dime. 7.Horses continue to die in a presideo, Texas feedlot because pro slaughter considers horses livestock which gives horses NO protection like a dog or cat. This alone shows their lack of caring for horses welfare. 8.Pro slaughter also considers horses livestock because of the tax breaks they get breeding and large areas of land. 9.Stop the slaughter, Stop the incentives and the breeding will slow down. They created the real problems we see today. 10. A horse is a bibical animal jesus rode on a mule and God will return on white horses maybe the one you wanted had abused and slaughtered...

It's high time to stop arguing, end slaughter and re-create a prosperous equine industry. There's no need to slaughter horses in America. Americans Don't Eat Horses!! Nor do we want to.

Horse meat is pure toxin to humans & other animals. Finally lets have the anti-horse slaughter bill passed in Congress. Please beware of a few who historically slip in an amendment, block, delay, & so on... Thank you. Veronica Greene, MA
