There are so many reasons this business is bad. Violations beyond belief that if they were seen by the general public, would be shut down on public outcry alone. There are currently three different slaughter methods employed by different slaughter plants in different countries. A captive bolt, a shotgun, or a pontilla knife alone. The fact that the horse has an acute and high sense of fear attributes to the low level of success by any of these methods, and the high level of long drawn out cruelty. Studies and investigations show that the horse will move at the exact moment that the bolt or gun is about to hit him in the head, making it near impossible for the worker to render the horse unconscious the first time. The bolt ends up in their eye or cheek and many videos prove that horses have to be hit approximately 5 to 10 times before they go down, even in the former U.S. facilities. Recent footage by the Canadian Horse Defense Coalition, shows long drawn out suffering of conscious horses and intentional unnecessary extreme cruelty, at the Canadian Horse Slaughter plants Bouvry and Richelieu. It is the want and need for human attention and praise that gives the horse its incredible versatility and it is a major factor in the assessment of the amount of mental and physical suffering involved with horse slaughter. It is an outrage for our Government to allow breeding incentives, while never having made any moneys available for Horse Rescues and Sanctuaries. It is an outrage for our government to condone the actions of the BLM. and the Forest Service. Horse Advocates say it is a conspiracy against horses and a betrayal of the American Public. Please move this bill along and quit letting it sit in the back rooms of your (our) government offices to be 'dealt with later'. Thank you very much, Sincerely,REPORT COMMENTS

Horses are not raised for food in this country and may therefore be given medications not approved for use in animals intended for human consumption. Aside from health considerations, slaughtering companion and sporting animals for food demonstrates a lack of moral integrity. Please help put an end to it.REPORT COMMENTS

If you could see how horses are slaughtered, you might never eat again. Then you would understand why this is intolerable. Please pass S116.REPORT COMMENTS

It is barbaric to me that politicians like Sue Wallis can condone the slaughter of our American horses, all in the name of GREED. Breeders need to be held accountable for their throw aways, not allowed to profit from irresponsibility. Our horses are NOT safe for human consumption, nor would I chose to feed this meat to a dog, cat or other animal with all the drugs we put in our horses. Slaughter is not the answer and anyone that takes the minimal time to research what is being done to a healthy, sound enormous number of our horses daily, shipping them over to Mexico and Canada should be irrate. The severing of spinal cords, inhumane cattle bolts, suffering and abuse must stop! As for folks like Sue Wallis and her United Horsemen, may their souls burn in hell for what they condone.REPORT COMMENTS

Laws are often created because someone decided to take a bad idea and try it out. Horse slaughter for human consumption is one of those bad ideas. Horses are not raised to be part of the food chain. They are given medications and supplements that are banned and unstudied medications. The FDA is clear on the position of Bute- It causes cancer and lots of other terrible side effects. It is not allowed in any animal intended to become food. Why is this so hard for the pro slaughter side to understand. Why do they want to poison our food supply? The only answer I can come up with is to make money for themselves. They will cry it is all about their rights to be able to dispose of their possessions however they like. Those rights should not infringe on the health, safety and welfare of the American Population. S1176 needs to pass now. Their bad idea needs to be stopped.REPORT COMMENTS

The slaughter of our American horses is a national disgrace. Shipping these animals to Canada and Mexico to face the most horrific death imaginable must stop. We must hold irresponsible breeders accountable, those who churn out horses like they are a disposable commodity are the real problem. This is no different than puppy mills, it's just that the animals are bigger. This is NOT euthanasia, no matter what some have tried to portray horse slaughter. Pass 1176 now!REPORT COMMENTS

Now, before anyone goes off and starts pounding their keyboards telling me we NEED horse slaughter becuz there are so many unwanted horses, I want you to stop and think where those horses came from....they came from irresponsible humans, either by backyard breeding, so called 'professional' breeders and those humans who just don't want them anymore. Yes, I understand there are cases where the humans love their horses and can no longer afford to keep/care for them. That doesn't mean you send them to an auction or slaughterhouse. Is that being a responsible animal guardian? I think not. Humans are the cause of extreme abuse and pain inflicted on other humans and all types of animals. The animals rely on YOU for everything while in your care. There is NO such thing as 'humane' slaughter. Humane would be to have the horses euthanized but once you've done that, they can't be consumed by humans OR other animals for food. God did NOT give us horses to eat. There are plenty of other meat sources for those who have to eat it. Do you beat, stab, electrocute (cattle prod) or hit with boards that have nails in them, the deer, rabbits, elk, moose, bear or any other wild life you hunt? NO you don't. For MOST hunters, it's all about a clean kill shot (one; not multiples). Our horses are not even given that option. For those in other countries that want to eat horse meat, let them raise their own and leave ours alone!! Please copy/paste and/or share by whatever means you have available. Let's get the word out there that we want them to STOP THE SLAUGHTER.REPORT COMMENTS
