By doing away with horse slaughter we are taking away the rights of citizens to make up their own minds about what to do with their livestock. If I want to send my horse to slaughter I should be able to do that.

Proper management of horse processing facilities, along with video monitoring, is part of the solution - we need to be responsible here in the USA so that horses are not shipped, legally or illegally, across the borders to abattoirs which have no humane regulations in place. I'm pro-horse, by the way, but there aren't many viable solutions to unwanted livestock, and horses are, after all, livestock.

Horses, donkeys, and mules are now just being dumped on the side of the road in my area because owners feel like they have a better chance the sending them to the sale barn where they will have to endure the 14 hr plus ride to the Mexico slaughter house. Humane, US slaughter needs to be opened back up!!!

Please open the plants! You are condemning horses to fates worse than death by not offering responsible owners this option!

Wild Horses have their place in US History; however, feral horses do not. More needs to be done to address the abandoning of domesticated horses into the wild. When economic situations are dire, what else can people who are already strapped for cash do but release their domestic horses into the wild? It was a mistake to allow the human processing of domestic horses to begin with. I believe a correlation can be drawn between the destruction of our western forests by a willingness to allow the timber industry to be dismantled and destroyed and the loss a humane way to remove domestic horses.

Please allow farmers and ranchers to treat horses as livestock. Not all of them are pets! We have a market for all other livestock.
