This is extremely unfair. All should pay, or all should get to keep credit without having to pay.REPORT COMMENTS

I purchased my home on December 30th, 2008. It is not fair that had I purchased my home 2 days later, than I would've received more money and not had to pay it back.REPORT COMMENTS

This is absolutely horrible that we have to pay this back. My house has decreased in value by 50,000 and I have to start paying this credit back. People in 2009 got even more money and they don't have to pay the money back so why should we.REPORT COMMENTS

This is completely unfair! My husband and I would like to build a house (again, stimulating the economy) and we are not able to because the lump sum would be due that tax year. We are now stuck in the home, while people who bought their home 5 months after us do not have to pay this back!!REPORT COMMENTS

not fair to all americans, because we bought in 2008 to help the economy we pay back, but if wehad waited it would be free money. come on don't try to make your deficit back on the backs of those who tried to stimulate the economy before it really really started to fail. i knownot everything is fair but this is a big unfair, same words in the credit in 2008 and 2009 except for 2008 you will pay it back and 2009 tax freeREPORT COMMENTS

This makes me sick to think that I made a bad decision buying my first home in 2008. I would have waited if I had known 2009 would be so much better for my financial future. Te interest rates fell and the prices did too. Then the loan became free. Very sad.REPORT COMMENTS

I did my taxes and when it said I was eligible for this credit I looked into it on the tax site. It said nothing about repaying unless I moved out of the home, rented it, turned it into a business, or foreclosed within less than three years. I was duped by the government. Of course I should have used common sense and known that the government lies. I feel like an idiot for letting the government take more money from me.REPORT COMMENTS

Agreed, this is unfair to us who did the right thing to stimulate the ecomony, yet we are not given the same consideration as those that purchased a home in 2009. If I would have known they were going to change this rule 01/01/2009, I would have postponed the closing by 3 weeks! I closed the week before Christmas 2008!.REPORT COMMENTS

I agree with other posters. If I would've known that 2009 buyers wouldn't have to pay back, I would've waited 2 months and claimed that year. It was possible if you look at the window of taking credit either year. All should pay, or none should pay. Not that I held it as complete truth, but my tax preparer told me in 2009 that she highly doubts that we will have to pay the money back. Wish it was true because now I owe more on this stupid house, than its worth.REPORT COMMENTS
