This is not fair. I've written my congressmen to no avail. I purchased on Dec. 31st, 2008. If only I had waited one day. I pray that our President will rectify this and do the only right thing.

This is extremely unfair to take money out of hard working american hands like this yet "Big Corporations" are given break after break not having to pay back their debts that they knew they had to pay back. Most of us had no clue we had to pay this 08 credit back. To have the stipulations that are attached to this are even more rediculous because it makes peoples houses worth $7,500 less for 15 years because the loan wont be paid off until then. Your screwing the people. Shouldn't expect anything less though.

Minimal information was provided regarding the stipulations of the loan. Not to mention the amount of people who have found loopholes and are abusing the credit due to lack of regulation. Had I been fully aware of the ramifications, I would not have taken this option. The repayment option should either be eliminated completely, or the option to continue to pay it back in $500 increments via tax return reduction over 15 years should be available. Losing any equity and profit upon sale of the home is inconducive to the original purpose ~ assisting first time home buyers.

It makes no sense to punish the people that purchased homes a year sooner. For the homebuyers in 2008, such as myself, it is a big smack in the face by our own government.

Same situation. I know two seperate presidents signed two different bills, but the repayment of the first one needs to be waved. I don't see why you would give someone $8000 with no repayment but make someone with $7500 pay it back.

The credit helped me invest more money into the brand new house that bought already upside down. I am a financially smart American and initially I was told I did not have to repay the $7500.00. Then, the non-repayable $8000.00 full credit comes out. I have not sold/let my home go, my credit score is above the national average, and I am a government county employee. I feel that the tax payers who received the credit AND still own the same homes should NOT have to repay it. It seems that unless you are a major (greedy) financial institution, an American car manufacturer, or a Haitian, us little folks have NOTHING coming from the IRS, the government, or Obama. Why not invest our OWN money BACK into US?! Stimulate the average people, watch the economy erupt!

We closed on 12/31/08 thinking it was our last chance to get in on the $7500 tax credit. We didn't know about the $8000 credit February 2009, but then it was too late. It's not fair that we should get less money and have to pay it back! I have written to one of my senators, but haven't heard back. I will be writing so the other senator right away.

I sent these comments to Senator Merkley from my state. He had responded to my request and told me he would be talking to other Senators about it. So far nothing has been done about it. Thank you for your response to my letter about the first-time homebuyer credit from 2008. As the time for a payment on this is getting closer I find myself struggling to put together the payment required. You see I didn?t get the full amount of $7500 because my home was only $56,000. I received a credit of $5,600. As you can imagine a home selling for $56,000 needed some work, and at the time the tax credit was a Godsend. In 2008 the tax credit was really just a no interest loan, and I rushed to buy my home in December of 2008 before it disappeared. If I had known how it would change in January 2009 I would have waited 3 weeks to buy my home. My ex-wife?s son-in-law bought a $300,000 home in 2009. He and his wife received an $8,000 tax credit, which he doesn?t have to pay back. He makes over an $110,000 per year. I live on a fixed income from Social Security Disability and am required to pay back the $5.600 tax credit I got for the 2008 tax year. I find this inconsistency in tax credits to be unfair to those buying their homes in 2008 in which I am one. I watched as the lame duck session of congress recently passed a number bills into law. With all that activity on major issues the correction in this tax law seems to have been forgotten. I am hopeful that you and your Senate colleagues will not forget that this inconsistency in the tax law needs to be repaired soon. In these economic hard times this is one thing that will help us.

Be consistent, either we all repay it or we all keep it. I guarantee I spent that $7500 more wisely than the the US Government will when they start collecting my re-payment. Oh wait, I don't think they have waited around to start getting repaid...ask China

Way to stimulate the economy have someone purchase a house before a housing market crash, have them lose about 60k on a 200k house within months and then make em pay 500 bucks a year for 15years to the goverment on top of there loss.

This is just ridiculous. I cannot believe they are making us pay the "credit" back but not making people who bought their home a few months later pay their credit back. We have contributed to our community and the economy by purchasing our first home when we did. We used their credit to purchase appliances, paints, landscaping, etc, that now are essentially lost investments since our home value has gone down. If we want to move, we will now have no down payment for a new home since we will have to use the profit from our sale to pay back the loan on the spot. Just stupid.

Purchased Oct 2008. If I waited 2 months I would not have to repay 7500.00. This is unfair.

It is quite unfair that I have to repay the smaller credit, while the larger credit earned for less expensive homes are not to be repaid. Not fair. It can almost be considered to be unethical?
