The Student Loan Program is a travesty. It needs to be subject to NORMAL, STANDARD Consumer Loan laws. i.e. my daughter's $20k loan is now $50k. Worse she is charged $8+ PER DAY compound interest, because in 2011 ONE payment was LATE, not missed, LATE. There are too many situations in the US which are as bad or worse. People who have loans with NJCLASS/HESAA need relief and/or help from the predatory collection tactics, mismanagement, poor customer service and the refusal to provide an income based repayment plan for those willing to make payments they can afford. This program, supported by the State and promoted to high school seniors as a good option for student borrowing needs better oversight. The interest is so high, we know that we will be in debt forever. Even if I can one day manage to make the minimum payments, I'm just running on a hamster wheel, financially exhausting myself with no end in sight.
