As an RN and Viet Nam era Army medic I lived with undiagnosed PTSD for 25 years, like many other vets. It eventually cost me my career. My heart goes out to our younger brother & sister vets. What a tragedy that each generation has to shoulder such a burden. "There is not such a thing as a good war or a bad peace." Benjamin Franklin Keep it up, Ron! We're behind you!

Many of my Marine brothers (myself included) are now being diagnosed with PTSD. We are Desert Storm Combat Vets. 20 years later, it begins to become intolerable, but we've all dealt with it one way or another since we got back. Many (myself included) are finally getting the help they need. Thanks Ron!

As of 2/11/11 it can't help my son, so it is too late for our family, but if it can help others, this needs to happen NOW

It is too late for my brother - a 22yr career Ret GySGt US Marine Corps - he ended his life 2/3/2011. He served dutifully. Loved this country. Please listen to the families when we plead with you to have sponsored programs like those listed here. To lose one life is painful enough. To save one life would mean the world. It's time to recognize what's happening here, address the truth & support our service members. Thank you for your consideration.

I was diagnosed with service connected dysthimic disorder and PTSD eight years after I left the Marines. I attempted suicide twice in those eight years. For eight years I carried a burden that could have been addressed. Thanks for doing this Ron.

My son did two tours in Iraq and when he got out, the military has treated him like a welfare case...He needed a cat scan on his brain to rule out bleeding on the brain, all they did was ask him questions and ruled out there was no bleeding. When he got back from Iraq, all they did was hand him a sheet of paper with questions on it and he had to fill in the blanks, that was it.

(Bureaucratic BS and plausible deniability) THE VA health care system is better then nothing without a doubt, but its BARELY better then nothing. I know of over 20 VETs that have commit suicide directly caused by the VA HEALTH CARE SYSTEMS INCOMPETENCY AND PREDATORY STAFF. THIS IN ITS SELF CAN BRING ON, ENHANCE AND OR CREATE PTSD !! "PLEASE NOTE: MOST EMPLOYEES THAT ARE ACTUAL VETERANS THEMSELVES ARE NOT INCLUDED OR PART OF MY FOLLOWING STATEMENTS" There is more going on then just screening. I'm a VET and have found that there is a prepared statement or persona for VA hospitals and its really just lip service. "Saying they want to help the VET." That is only available if your don't rock the boat or you catch them lying, cheating, falsifying records, and or retaliating for complaints filed by you when you catch them at it. The seasoned VA staff that are not veterans themselves can not for the most part, be trusted. BELOW are their priorities as was explained to me by a long term VA hospital Charge Nurse. She said no matter what the propaganda says this is the truth in reality. Number #1 Priority Is to protect the bureaucratic system at all costs. Number #2 Priority, Is to protect your job by any means necessary up to an including retaliation and elimination of the Veteran at all costs. Number #3 Priority. Do not complicate or rock the boat in anyway even if its to save a Veterans life or that of his family. Number #4 Priority, Deny, Deny, Deny any form of incompetency or failure of the Bureaucracy, staff or health care. If needed, sacrifice the VETERAN to shut him/her up and or disgrace and intimidate the VETERAN until he/she capitulates to the system. ( Remember, Its the Patients fault always) Number #5 Priority, Is to provide the least amount of service necessary in order to keep your job, support the bureaucracy, and its unwritten policy's of plausible deniability, always deny accountability and or responsibility. Number #6 Priority Is to put on a veneer of competency and dedication, to always put on a fake front for the public that can support the illusion the Health Care System is competent and caring. Number #7 Priority Is to blindly follow the bureaucracies directions and mandates no matter what it costs are to life and limb of the VETERAN. Number #8 Priority Is to sacrifice oneself to protect the bureaucracy Number #9 Priority, Is to sacrifice the VETERAN first off, and when that is not possible apply priority #8 Number #10 Priority, Always spread and regurgitate the rhetoric that the VETERAN comes first, no matter how ridiculous it may seem or blatantly apparent to circumvent reality. Only allow the truth if it benefits the systems goals. Charge nurse Module 3 Loma Linda VA ------------------------------------------------------------------ REMEMBER Honest and competent Heath care is only reserved for VETs who have the strength and metal alertness left to fight another battle an
