I have chronic pain and this would be a heart shape if this was added don't make that much money and this is medication that is very much needed for me. Don't feel I should have to pay for those who are not responsible and get their medications on the streetJun 5th, 2016Someone from Pownal, VT signed.

Today is cancer survivor day. I survived cancer but the chemotherapy gave me permanent nerve damage ...which means chronic PAIN requiring opiate MEDICATION. To give me some relief, so I could raise my kids and care for myself. I am NOT an ADDICT. I am a PATIENT. How about taxing insulin to pay for diabetic health care ? Or taxing blood pressure meds to help offset the cost of cardiovascular health care? Addiction is a terrible thing. It needs adequate treatment. But NOT paid for by Legitimate pain patients. Shame on you all. Come up,with a more appropriate method to raise funds for this.REPORT COMMENTS

How about quit spending billions on the War on Drugs and instead use that money to treat addicts instead of hurting the responsible patients who depend on these drugs for quality of life.REPORT COMMENTS

Pain patients shouldn't be taxes (PER MILIGRAM!!) to fund addiction treatments, because Far less than 1% become addicted. -Consider that a single Low Dose pill can be 50mg, this adds up quickly! Pain patients are already poor and struggling. (New) laws are already making it increasingly expensive and difficult for us to simply get our medication that allows us to work and live. Don't let them attack and tax us even more just dor being sick/in pain! Don't let them continue to lump us together with and treat us like addicts!REPORT COMMENTS

Taxation without representation. This is ludicrous and a waste of our legislatures time. There are a multitude of other avenues to pay for and support substance abuse networks... Use those wonderful elected brains of yours and step outside of the taxation box. Thank youREPORT COMMENTS

I am a chronic pain patient. I live in terrible pain daily. I have a 14 month old baby girl to raise as well. NONE of us deserve to be taxed MORE just because we NEED narcotic pain relievers to maintain a decent QUALITY OF LIFE so we can function daily and take care of ourselves and our families! NOT ONE PENNY MORE! #PatientsNotAddicts !!!REPORT COMMENTS

Taxing individuals on medications they take for chronic pain is discrimination at the highest level and goes against the first amendment of the constitution. The way this country treats its sick and disabled is a total disgrace.REPORT COMMENTS

How can you tax the majority for the minority that becomes addicted? WE have enough problems paying for our meds. Now you are going to tax us for a chronic condition for which we need meds. Unfair ! I have 6 autoimmune issues and now it will cost me more to get the tramadol that I need to maintain my lifeREPORT COMMENTS

I am against this legislation. Seniors and the disabled already have financial difficulties paying for their medications. This will increase this problem, and more with chronic pain will suffer because of this legislation.REPORT COMMENTS

Enough is enough! I am for addiction to be treated as a disease and help to be available; however, this is going to far. The burden will be put on the people, who have the least amount of monies to pay. This country already has thousands of people, who go without medication, due to cost and limited income, this is just the beginning of starting something that will end up killing many! Should we also tax insulin to raise money for the Diabetes Foundation and so on for research and treatment for diseases? Please, do not support this tax!REPORT COMMENTS

The War on Drugs is a failure. It's doing nothing but attacking "Chronic Pain Patients" and turning our lives into INHUMANE NIGHTMARES. Our human rights have been violated in so many ways. There are MILLIONS of chronic pain patients who DEPEND on opiates to live a QUALITY of LIFE. Our HUMAN RIGHTS to live a quality of life with less pain have been violated and this has to STOP NOW. Because of ADDICTS we legitimate chronic pain patients are suffering at the hands of our government. FIND a better way to help ADDICTS and STOP taking away our HUMAN RIGHTS to use opiates. MOST of us use opiates responsibly and as prescribed to have a quality of life. STOP taking away our quality of life. You are pushing MORE and MORE people to the streets for drugs for pain relief and to SUICIDE because they cannot take their pain any longer without pain medication to help control their pain.REPORT COMMENTS

PLEASE let doctors (trained and schooled) treat patients as they see fit and allow those of us suffering from chronic pain to live out our lives with as much grace and dignity as possible. Find another way to fund your treatment centers. Walk in our shoes for one day and just see if you could tolerate the treatment we have been receiving at your hands.REPORT COMMENTS

I am dismayed that the well meaning members of congress feel taxing pain killers is an appropriate response to the so called "opioid epidemic". Pain killers are not liquor or cigarettes - they are MEDICATION. Would you tax cancer medication? A high percentage of opiate users use them properly - why are we being punished for those who do not? This is unfair, since many of us are already struggling financially due to being unable to work. Please rethink this - it's not the "win/win" legislation you think it is. You are further demonizing people who need pain relief to have any quality of life. Do some research on where people who abuse drugs get them from - they sure as heck aren't gonna be the ones paying the tax.REPORT COMMENTS

This is a horrible idea! Government shouldn't be taxing sick people who use & have used their opioids responsibly. Government shouldn't tax patients at all. We as chronic pain patients are most likely disabled & have limited income & resources. By saying our insurance may cover the cost of the tax is just another way we would be paying the tax because our insurance premiums woukd more than likely go Up. We aren't stupid! If these senators are So concerned about helping addicted people, they should come up with an appropriate way of doing so. Giving Our money to addiction services is Wrong! Don't dig in our limited wallets for pennies that we don't have! Try digging in Yours!REPORT COMMENTS
