This an Outrageous Bill against innocent Americans who are suffering and often living in poverty already. To discriminate against law abiding, non addicted patients, is an Outrageous act and totally non American.Jun 5th, 2016Someone from Minneapolis, MN writes:
This is ridiculous. Stop punishing those of us in legitimate pain that are NOT abusing our medication!REPORT COMMENTS

Our medications are already ridiculously over priced and I can barely afford them as it is. If this bill is passed, I would have to go without the medications that I desperately need. If I had a choice I would take these medications but I live in unbearable nerve pain everyday.REPORT COMMENTS

if this were added I could no longer afford my chronic pain medicaions, they have given me my life back, I guess you would rather Medicare pay for hospitalizations when my medical conditions worsens. and Dems are supposed to help those most in need... sure. how much is the pharmacy lobbying paying you for this ridiculous bill?REPORT COMMENTS

I have to have opioids just to survive and help me be a mother and wife. I am in chronic pain day in and day out, with a diagnosis from a doctor! Why should I be penalized for something I have no control over just to survive? If I had a choice, I wouldn't be on this at all!REPORT COMMENTS

Each member of Congress makes over $100,000 a year. Those of us on Medicare make around $12,000 a year and have no way to increase our income because as much as some of us want to, we can't physically work any more. We didn't get a raise this year either, yet you want to tax us for our medications which will make our insurance premiums and copays go up? All of this to pay for treatment centers for addicts when we take our medications responsibly and follow the law. How about each one of you cut your pay to $12,000 a year and fund these centers yourselves instead? Preying on the elderly, sick and weak isn't what America is supposed to be about. Our forefathers are rolling in their graves.REPORT COMMENTS

This tax will punish all legitimate pain patients. Offering an exemption to only cancer patients is extremely offensive and disrespectful to those of us that have intractable pain. In addition, cancer patients have enough going on in their lives that they shouldn't have to worry about additional costs and then filling out forms to try and recoup that money. Out of pocket expenses are often high and we usually can't work, so this tax will be an additional burden. The poor, elderly and disabled are going to suffer the most from this tax. I don't abuse narcotics and am sick and tired of being treated and labeled by the American government as an addict. Try living one week in my shoes and you will understand that even though I don't have cancer, my type of pain has been described, by a well respected physician, as worse than cancer pain. I should not have to live with the worry that my PCM won't be able to prescribe my medications and that I won't be able to afford my prescription co pays any more. Even with my medication I am unable to lead a productive life. My meds do however afford me the opportunity to get out of bed on most days. The witch hunt that the CDC has started is a disgrace and I know of no other country that is doing this to their most vulnerable citizens. If you are really looking at offering free addiction treatment then please find a different way to fund it.REPORT COMMENTS

I am a 72-year-old chronic pain patient, retired. All I have is Medicare A & B as I cannot afford anything else. I use my medication as directed which is precious little and doesn't come close to controlling my pain as it is with all the regulations. I am a responsible patient, not an abuser nor am I an addict! Aren't we as law abiding patients being punished enough for the actions of those who choose to break the law? If this witch hunt continues pain patient suicide statistics will equal or surpass those of our vets & you will be creating more street drug lawbreakers out of our desperation. How is this kind of non-care following " first do no harm?" We are depressed beyond your imagining coping with our diminished quality of life, lack of compassionate care and inadequate income and now you want to tax what we need making what we already can't afford more costly?REPORT COMMENTS

Taxing chronic pain patients is not the answer. How about the pharmaceutical companies pay their fair share in taxes, and we use that money to fund drug rehabilitation centers?REPORT COMMENTS

I have an autoimmune condition. At this point, I don't need opioids for pain management, however, I know many people with my condition who do. I also have a coworker with chronic back pain from surgery who needs opioids to function on bad days. These people are not addicts and do not deserve to be punished because a percentage of opioid seekers are! You need to seriously rethink this very bad idea.REPORT COMMENTS

I have auto immune disease, which causes a lot of chronic pain, as of yet I have been lucky to not have to resort to opiates, I do know that day is coming around and I'm not looking forward to it. My disease is expensive enough. Let the abusers pay for their own treatment, I have already lost enough.REPORT COMMENTS
