I take opioids for a chronic pain condition. I take them responsibly and get them from my neurologist. I don't see why I should have to pay a tax to pay for addicts to get treatment. You are already making it hard enough for legitimate pain patients to get the medicine we need. Look up Trigeminal Neuralgia and then tell me you think I should pay a tax! (Not that I think you will do it. You are just jumping on the "drug addict" train so the people running the addict clinics can get rich.). I hope you are up for re-election this year. I will be certain the vote against you.

So people who are addicted and need treatment are supposed to stop taking the drug, right? So your brilliant plan is to make people who need to take the drugs pay for the treatment of the people who need to stop taking the drugs, in a direct and discriminatory way over and above their regular insurance premiums. I am aghast that you assume no one could have a problem with that.

Please stop the war on responsible chronic pain patients. Not fair to make responsible patients pay for addicts to get help who buy their "meds" off the street.

I'm a chronic pain patient and also on SSDI. I can barely afford my medicine now. Putting a tax on it may mean I can't get it at all. It's the only thing that allows me to get out of bed in the morning and move around throughout the day.

I am quoting Ginger G. Because she said it perfectly. I have all kinds of medical problems and suffer daily from chronic pain so here is the post I am quoting " The vast majority of chronic pain patients do not abuse and misuse their pain medication and will not end up in addiction programs. Pain patients are already suffering enough without being made responsible to foot the bill for those who choose to misuse pain medication - that was most likely was never prescribed to them in the first place! This bill discriminates against legitimate pain patients! " with all this being said please stop harassing us and leave us alone. Life is difficult enough on a day-to-day basis without anyone making it even more difficult for us.

Is this 1935 Germany ? What do chronic pain patients have to do in any way with people with addiction problems ? and why should they be made to pay for others mistakes ?

This will hurt everyone. Those of us that are treated for chronic pain responsibly and everyone who pays for insurance. If I read this correctly, they are planning on collecting the tax from health insurance costs. Won't that make everyone's insurance go up? People who have high blood pressure, diabetes, or heart disease are not charged a tax for their necessary medications. I suppose they should be taxed to set up health clubs and dietary programs to fight against their diseases. Chronic pain is a legitimate health condition. There are many safeguards in place for those of us that use these meds. The addicts will buy off the street or steal to feed their addiction. This tax will never cost them a thing. If someone wants treatment there are many programs available to help them. I'm disgusted this was even proposed. It is discrimination.

Chronic pain patients already pay for the actions of drug abusers, by not having access to the medication they need. This is adding taxes to insult to injury by making the patients who are lucky enough to have a decent doctor and get the necessary medication have a hard time affording them. All for the benefit of drug addicts. Why not propose taxes on the safe houses where addicts go to shoot up their heroin safely with clean needles?

Just what people who are non-abusers, who suffer, and legitimately need these drugs need. More stress and added expense. Insurance may cover the initial cost but somewhere down the line it gets past on to the patient.

THIS IS PAST HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS! IT IS DOMESTIC TERRORISM ON CHRONIC PAIN SUFFERERS BY OUR OWN FRIGGING GOVERNMENT! And it is mega discrimination ! When I was a police officer we called it SELECTIVE ENFORCEMENT! CALL The President IMMEDIATELY! Please CALL the President and plead with him for mercy on a very large segment of very sick people that most are already like myself financially ruined because of this Horrible sickness! Government's horrible War On Prescription Opiate pain medication. I have taken this opportunity to share my heartbreaking story in hopes these witch hunting Opiate ill informed skeptics will read and understand that I would have no life without Medically prescribed Opiates by a physicians care and strictly monitored monthly urine and blood test. Please remember that An Opinion Before A Thorough Investigation Is The Epitome Of Ignorance! And that a little more compassion from the Medical Field and its representatives could have saved my beautiful Stepdaughters life. Let me say this! A person who has a addictive personality will abuse anything that helps them feel better. I have taken Oxycontin for 12 years , I have had 26 major surgery's in the past 9 years. I have so much physical pain I can not even get out of bed with out pain medication and when I run out I run out and just lay in bed praying the Lord relieve me of this horrible condition and I pray God you medically prescribed Opiate Pain medication skeptics never go through what I go through everyday of my life when the only thing you have to do is threaten what help I get, Shame on you! There will always be drug abuse and as the so called war on drugs has failed miserably every since the Government declared it. Now ,all this is doing is giving help and aid to the illegal Heroin cartel's and drug pushers business pushing them to knew heights in the Black Market of Heroin while depriving folks as me of relief . Trying to label us legitimate Chronic Pain Sufferers as some type of Junkie and trying to align Chronic Pain Sufferers with Heroin Addicts in this horrible Witch Hunt ! My Stepdaughter committed suicide 4 years ago because of being treated like a drug addict by some of her family , friends and doctors when all along she suffered from Lupus and Fibromialgia which I believe was brought on by a deadly car crash at 18 , she told me between that which I was being put through and what they were putting her through She was not going to live her life in such a hell brought on by people like these Opiate Pain Medication Witch hunters that are on a witch hunt to out law Opiate pain medications that give us Chronic Pain sufferers some sort of a life . As a retired Police officer and worked directly close to the DEA, these people do not have a clue how thrilled they are making the illegal Heroin trade and think of my Late Stepdaughter as they continue on with this Witch Hunt movement to outlaw opiates! Just like the slaughter of The 20 Children and 5 Teachers at San

Most people using these medications aren't addicts and shouldn't have to pay for those who are.

I have a disease that causes my spine to collapse & crush my lungs. Why should I be punished for being sick by being forced to pay for drug addicts. This is insane. The good always pay for the bad. What about veterans & cancer patients. I hope all of you will be voted out of office soon because you have lost your minds!

If this bill passes, suicide is going to soar. The poor, disabled, diseased wounded warriors, severely injured trauma victims are living in despair as it is. These people aren't addicts, & shouldn't be made to suffer for or pay for drug rehabilitation of those that misuse the system & drugs.

I'm a 60-year-old woman who has responsibly used modest levels of opiate pain relief for a number of years. Approaching retirement age the last thing we need more taxes. Right now It's almost impossible to get even very reasonable doses of medication. Is the government actually trying to avoid the costs of our medical care and Social Security entirely?

I hate to start out with a threat but I am so ready to vote all our elected officials out. If they vote for this or the 18 Bills against Pain Patients that is what I will do and most will too. We are not ignorant. My pain med is over $700. a month, I am on Medicare so it isn't that high but is for others. Ask yourself if you would want to pay that much. I take many pill to help with my medical problems. Get educated Please. Here are some very good links that are about Pain Patients and what really is going on. The media are not talking about this.
