my daughter is among thousands [or more] that will NEVER be able to be out of debt because of her student loans....these loans were sold to banks over the years increasing the interest ...while the government can borrow $ for very low interest..... this is just plain wrong!Feb 8th, 2015Someone from Philadelphia, PA writes:

Direct benefit goes to both students and their co-signing parents, but reform also aids older Americans who are trying to sell their homes to a generation of 30 somethings who are saddled with so much student loan debt that they cannot even consider purchase of a home. Debt relief for students thus impacts the housing market from constuction to sales.REPORT COMMENTS

Getting an education should not mean a lifetime of debt. All Consumer Protection laws should be restored to student loans beginning foremost with bankruptcy.REPORT COMMENTS

Sometimes bad things happen to good people. Also, they go into a subterranean (cash) basis of work. This hurts everyone, by not paying in taxes, SS, medicare, etc... I myself became disabled from a service injury. It took a long time to prove and my loan kept growing and changing hands, each adding their own fee's. Sad thing is many of the loaners are also the collectors, unethical in my opinion.REPORT COMMENTS

Many students were abused by private lenders, such as Sallie Mae. The lack of bankruptcy options opened the door for predatory lending. Sallie Mae was giving out private loans to the neediest students, with rates at high as 16% PLUS LIBOR. Many of these predatory loans defaulted- and they are now ballooned to twice their original value. They are simply unpayable, and it is unfair.REPORT COMMENTS

There absolutely needs to be provisions for people who bare the weight of student loans while experiencing financial hardships. We make it available for some cases related to frivolous spending but not in those for supporting higher education and career readiness. Priorities my friends...priorities.REPORT COMMENTS

Regarding the new Plan Obama is offering for people to go to free 2 year college,it is only fair that those of us who attended 2 year college that has a massive dept payback to be removed so we can get on with our lives and so that the government will quit threatening people with payroll garnishments and stuff.REPORT COMMENTS
