Stop treating students as second class citizens and restore the fair standard bankruptcy protection option and statute of limitations to all public & private student loans. A ban of the standard bankruptcy protection option and statute of limitations to student loan borrowers is a violation of the 14th amendment equal protection under the law clause. A Student Loan shouldn't be a life debt sentence...

Prior Congresses and Presidents have systematically removed bankruptcy protection, the statutes of limitation on collections, truth-in-lending disclosure requirements; made student loans refinanced into other forms of debt non-dischargeable; allowed for the garnishing of poverty-level, Social Security Disability payments for those unlucky enough to become disabled...all while setting interest rates on loans hundreds of basis points above the risk-free rate, and touting a collection rate of 122% of the principal lent for defaulted loans. The federal government has done all this - and more - while refusing to so much as require the privileged (accredited) institutions taking public money to *cap tuition* as a condition of their privileged. Treason is too nice a word for the careful, intentional creation of this web of violently discriminatory laws. 40 million federal borrowers and an untold number of private borrowers will not tolerate being treated as 8th class citizens. Restore bankruptcy, change the law. This cannot be ignored any longer.

Student loans should not be a gold mine for banks. The American dream is out of reach and especially for the poor.

My wife and I are in our fifties and we will be unable to ever retire due to $500-$800 in monthly payments that we owe on my wife's school loans. We barely pay our bills now!

Student Loans... all student laons should be forgiven. They have more than made back their money. I have paid at least 35K on my 40K private loan and am now in default and they want almost 52K RIGHT NOW. This is plain ole stinky ********. Nobody even talks about private loans. Thats where the real hatchet work is being done.

Both of my children are burdened with almost $50,000 of student loans each. They can't buy a house. They can't buy a dependable car to get to work. They are afraid to have children due to the cost of child care. This is ridiculous with so many other progressive countries providing free university educations.

I've worked by butt off to move my student debt from over $105,000 in 2007 to just under $40,000 currently. I have a great job in my field, but I still live under my parents roof and have to cut so many costs and activities to get by. Where's the American Dream in that?
